Chp. 6: Sons and Mother

Detroit, Michigan

Henry Ford Kingswood Hospital

June 20, 2020

In the city of Detroit, Michigan, Jacob stood in front of the Henry Ford Kingswood Hospital. They stared at the large building for a moment. A car drives up and parks up close to him. The passenger door opened and stepping out of the car was Keaton. He walks up to his little brother.

"Glad you can make it," Keaton said.

"Had to take a bus since all airports are closed. And I was dealing with people that were asking me for autographs and asking me all sorts of questions about Remnant, my time there, and the things I've experienced," Jacob said.

"I know. Same goes for me too. But at least the airports will open up tomorrow morning. So we don't have to drive all the way back," Keaton said.

"Yeah, but we will be dealing with a lot of people coming up to us. Now I know exactly how Pyrrha feels," Jacob said.

"Are you ready?" he asked.

"Yeah... I am," Jacob sighed.

The two brothers walk up and walk in through the front door. After going through the front desk, Keaton and Jacob were both being escorted by a nurse down the hall.

"I'll have to ask you both to be tedious when you see her. Rachel Gordon is still trying to adjust to everything going on, especially when she saw you both on the news during the attacks," the nurse said.

"We understand," Keaton said.

They soon stop at a door and the nurse opens it and they all step inside. They all see a woman sitting at the foot of the bed looking out at the window. She wears a light blue buttoned down shirt, dark blue jeans, and a pair of black shoes. She has blue eyes and short brown hair.

The woman turns her head to face Jacob and Keaton for a moment before speaking.

"Boys?"

"Hey, mom," Jacob spoke.

"Rachel, your two sons are here to come and pick you up," the nurse said to the woman known as Rachel and turned her head to face her two sons. "I'll let you guys catch up for a bit first. Come back to the front desk to sign her out."

The nurse walks out of the room and closes the door behind her, leaving the two sons and mother alone.

"I've watched you two on the TV lately. You've been getting all sorts of attention," Rachel said.

"Yeah. But we're not here to talk about that," Jacob said. "So how have you been doing? And what have you been doing all this time?"

"I've mostly been in this room doing some evaluations and some sessions. And trying to find some hobbies in my free time," Rachel said.

"I'm sure that's nice," Keaton said.

Rachel sighed before she spoke again.

"I cannot stop thinking about that day I've tried to murder your sister. I cannot even forgive myself for that action I took. I'm guessing that you boys didn't bring Ashley because you're afraid I might try to hurt her again. Am I right?" Rachel asked.

Keaton and Jacob stayed silent as to not give her their answer.

"Your silence says it all. I'd do the same thing if I was in your position. But right now, I would do anything to have her in my arms and let her know how sorry I am, and do whatever I can to make up for the time we've lost," Rachel said as her eyes welled up. "And the same goes for you both as well. When I saw you both on the news and heard what you have been through I worried to no end that something bad might happen to you. And I might... not ever see you again."

Rachel finally breaks down sobbing, burying her face in her hands. Jacob approached and sat down on the bed next to his mother. He then wrapped his arms around her as she did the same to him. Keaton walked over to the two of them, knelt down in front of them and hugged Rachel. She wrapped one of her arms around her eldest son as she continued sobbing.

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry I'm sorry," she cried.

"We can work this all out," Keaton said.

"Yeah. It will be alright," Jacob said, rubbing his mother's back, while tears rolled down his cheeks.

Knoxville, Tennessee

Rental House

Meanwhile back in Knoxville, Yang, Nora, Kelly, and Allen are all playing Mario Kart, while Ren, Jaune, Pyrrha, Kendra, Robert, Rebecca, Blake, Britney, Ricky, Ruby, and Weiss all watched them play and waited for a turn.

"So what do you think the big life changing announcement is that the captain has?" Yang asked.

"I don't know. All we know is that a majority of it involves us and our parents," Allen said.

"Must be big if it involves our parents," Kendra said.

"How do you think all your parents are gonna react when they hear it?" Ruby asked.

"Don't know. We need to hear what Keaton has to say first when he gets back with Jacob and their mom," Ricky answered.

"Speaking of which, is Jacob gonna be okay?" Pyrrha asked.

"Yeah. I mean he hasn't seen her for a few years," Jaune added.

"I think Jacob's gonna be okay," Britney answered.

Detroit, Michigan

La Quinta Inn & Suites

Later at night back in Detroit, Jacob, Keaton, and Rachel are spending the night at a La Quinta Inn & Suites hotel. Jacob sat behind a desk watching videos on Youtube on his laptop, Keaton was laying down on one bed watching the television, Rachel sat on the other bed watching her two boys.

"So have you two found yourselves a girl yet?" Rachel asked.

"Why do you ask?" Jacob asked.

"Can't a mother know what her children are up to and have found someone to date?" Rachel asked.

"Come on, mom. I can tell there's something more to that question," Keaton said.

"When you two find someone, I just want to see if they are right for you. Because I certainly didn't apparently," Rachel answered. "I just want you to be safe and happy."

Jacob and Keaton glanced at each other for a moment before looking back at Rachel.

"Yeah, we both found a girl we hooked up with," Keaton said.

"Mine you're welcome to meet when we all get back to Knoxville," Jacob said.

"I'll be looking forward to it," Rachel said.

"Well, I'm getting to bed. Don't want to oversleep and miss our plane," Keaton said as he took the remote next to him and shut off the TV.

Jacob closes up his laptop and walks over to the bed Rachel's on. Keaton pulls up his bed sheets and covers himself up, while Jacob and Rachel get into their bed and get under their covers. As Keaton turned off the lamp next to him, Rachel wrapped her arms around Jacob, prompting him to turn his head to face his mother.

"I heard from Keaton of what your f... of what he tried to do to you when you encountered him," Rachel said as she stroked her son's head.

Jacob stared at Rachel as she soon broke down in soft sobbing. Tears threatened to leak from Jacob's eyes. He buried his face into Rachel's chest as she continued to stroke Jacob's head.

"My boy. My little baby boy. I'm here now," Rachel softly spoke.
