jikker jack: I just want to say that him catching on quickly to Viren's acts is because I thought Amaya did too as well as the fact that Viren tried manipulating Emery in chapter 2. It made sense to me at least that he can figure out it was Viren. As for his nonchalantness, I was trying to make him look frustrated and angry while trying to pass the conversation quickly by turning it into a joke. It might've backfired so I'll see what I can do about his expressions to make him less nonchalant.

"Viren, what is the meaning of this?!" Exclaimed Culann angrily before he slammed his fist into the wall.

"That you're angry?" Asked Viren calmly as he glanced at Culann.

"Don't avoid my question! Why are you declaring the kid dead?!" Exclaimed Culann angrily.

"Because in the end, he is just a child." Said Viren with a deep frown, causing Culann to narrow his eyes. "Do you have any idea how much weight the title of head artificer holds in our kingdo- no, among all of humanity?"

Culann's frown deepend as Viren approached him and continued while looking down on him.

"We are on the brink of war. Leaving that much power in the hands of a child at this time would spell disaster." Said Viren before staring Culann in the eyes. "If you think I'm wrong, we could place Emery in the war council the moment he returns."

Culann growled and glared at the high mage angrily. Alas, that was all he could do.

"I'll take your silence as an agreement."

Defeated, Culann walked away while growling. "You won't get away with this."

Viren hated the idea of standing on equal grounds as a child. He still loathed that a new form of magic was invented by a child.

Alone, it was already enough of a reason to get rid of the status of head artificer. But now, it became another reason humanity to follow him against Xadia.

Of course, he'd never kill Emerick. No no, the child was FAR too beneficial to humanity. Even as a high mage, Viren couldn't perform much artificial magic. It required complex knowledge that was ahead of the current time. Losing Emerick would delay the development of artificial magic by centuries. The ones searching for him should act upon that fact.

With that in mind, there was only one thing left to take care of, the princes.

A weak king will lead a weak kingdom. The ones searching for the princes should act upon that fact.

A long while after Viren and Culann's conversation.

"General Amaya, what brings you here?" Asked Culann in a gruff voice raising a brow.

Inside his smithy, Amaya and Gren approached Culann with serious looks on their faces.

Amaya signed for Culann who could only wait for Gren to translate.

"Viren is looking for the princes and the head artificer." Said Gren calmly.

Culann frowned. "Haven't you heard? The head artificer is dead." He said in a spiteful tone.

"...we know about the cover up." Replied Gren causing Culann to flinch. "Emery visited the Banther Lodge and told us after hearing about his supposed death."

"S'posse I know what you're talking about and all of this makes sense, what do you want from me?"

Amaya signed and Gren translated.

"He's following the princes right now and we want you to prepare in case he comes back." Said Gren calmly. "We want you to put away all important artificial magic devices and prepare an escape route. Who knows what Viren will do the stuff in the workshop let alone with Emery when he returns."

Culann chuckled. "Alright, and in that case, what are YOU going to do?"

Amaya signed once more and Gren translated once again.

"I will head back to the breach and leave Lieutenant Gren with the task of searching for the princes and Emery." Said Gren before realizing his name was said. "Wait- Gren- I'm Gren. Uhh... isn't Emery already searching for them and they're trying to return the egg? Why make a search party?" Gren signed his questions to Amaya.

"So Viren can't make one." Replied Culann quickly with a grin. "I don't know what you mean by egg, but this lass just wants to keep everythin' important away from that mage's fingers. Be happy about it, it means you get a vacation."

Culann turned to Amaya and stared her in the eyes before nodding. Amaya nodded back as that was all she needed to hear before she and Gren began leaving.

And as for Gren's vacation, let's just say his duty chained him down or...chained him up.

Soren and Claudia were both not feeling well after their father told them to search for the princes.

One was told to kill the princes and another was told to prioritize the egg over the princes. Not that they knew about each other's orders.

But both were told the same thing when it came to Emery; to bring him back no matter what, even if he was kicking in screaming.

It was an odd request, to say the least. Why would Emery NOT want to come back to the castle now that the danger was gone. Their father told them that declaring the head artificer dead will keep Emery safe.

All of them were odd, but alas, the two decided to follow their father's requests.

But first, they had to gather some ingredients.

Sorry for the short chapter. I wanted to write what was happening at the castle and it turns out, unless I copy paste large portions of the episodes, there isn't much to write.
