Eventually, the rain came to an end. Rather abruptly. It was now in the evening, and Inej's parents retired for night. They had hoped that the rain would come to an end earlier and they would have been able to go out, but unfortunately, it wasn't to be. But to Kaz, it wasn't unfortunate. With their absence, they could now focus on his plan. Inej headed upstairs briefly to put on her cape and scarf. When she came back down the stairs, Kaz stared for moment at her earrings. He had immediately noticed them that morning when he had arrived. They were very simply designed, yet they matched her outfit. He didn't say anything when she caught him looking at them, but he knew that she knew he was admiring them. Well, he was admiring her. Silently, they all left the mansion. Outside, it was wet. The streets lined with puddles and the gutters running with water. There was still a heavy cloud cover in the sky, and the moon and stars were hidden from view. Kaz, Jesper, Nina, and Wylan all headed towards the Slat, with Kaz leading the way. But Inej broke off from the group, without the others knowing, and darted up the wall of a nearby building. He knew that she followed them on the rooftops for a while, but she broke off again and headed towards enemy territory. An invisible being flying over rooftops.
