Chapter 4: Lessons Learned

People cheered as the next match was about to begin. Four scrolls popped up and began randomizing.

"Emerald and Mercury of Haven. VS Coco and Yatsuashi of Beacon!" Professor Port announced. "Good Luck you two!" Velvet called. "Good Luck Aunt Coco!" I called. "C'mon, she's not gonna win." Scourge said. "Oh yeah? Just watch, she'll win." I said. The first section was a forest of trees. The second sector was steamy rock place. The third sector was a city and the fourth sector was the call grass with one tree.

"Hey. Love the outfit, kid." Aunt Coco said as she looked at Emerald. "I'll try not to get blood on it," Emerald said. "I can't promise you'll leave without a scratch," Yatsuashi said as he drew out his sword. "I won't be the one bleeding," Emerald said. "Oh, I like her!" Aunt Coco said. The countdown began.

"Three, two, one, began!" Professor Port said. Emerald and Mercury step back into the tall grass. Music begins playing as Aunt Coco changes her handbag into a Gatling gun and she shoots the tall grass.

"Woah!" Sonic cried. "A Gatling gun?!" Tails cried. As Aunt Coco was shooting the tall grass, bullets flew into the audience. The audience quickly dodges the bullets. Aunt Coco and Yatsuashi looked around but Emerald and Mercury were nowhere to be found.

"Look out!" Blake cried. They look up at the sky as Mercury comes to kick Aunt Coco, but Yatsuashi uses his Fulcrum to block it. Aunt Coco shoots her Gatling gun to shoot at Mercury. Mercury runs away from the bullets.

"He's good!" Uncle Sun said. "Yeah, but where's the girl?" Scarlet asked. Mercury was fighting both of them as he kicks Yatsuashi first. Coco fires her Gatling gun, but he dodges it. Mercury jumps on Aunt Coco's gun and jumps off to kick both of them, but Yatsuashi hits him with his fist. Mercury recovers as he goes behind Aunt Coco and kicks her gun into Yatsuashi's chest. Aunt Coco changes her gun into a handbag and goes for a hit but Mercury dodges it.

"Oh wow, they're really good at this," Dash said. "Yeah, I wish I was fighting out there like our sister," Emily said. "Be real Emily, you can't fight. You're just a kid." Scourge said. "But Dad, I can fight. I just need to train for it first." Emily said. "Don't worry Em, I can teach you how to fight," Sonic said. Scourge just glared at Sonic. "W-With your permission, Master?" Sonic said nervously. Scourge stayed silent for a minute. He sighed.

"Fine, you can teach her." Scourge said. I tried my best to ignore Scourge and watch the fight happen.

Mercury kicks the air as the grenades were coming for them. Yatsuashi and Aunt Coco blocked the grenades with their weapons. Mercury breakdances on the floor as thousands of grenades were flying in the air. Aunt Coco and Yatsuashi try to dodge the grenades as they were shooting down at the ground. Mercury goes behind Aunt Coco and kicks both Aunt Coco and Yatsuashi. Mercury kicks Aunt Coco to the ground. As Aunt Coco tries to get up, Emerald uses her chains and wraps them around Aunt Coco's waist, pulling her back into the forest.

"Coco!" Yatsuashi yelled. Mercury does a spin kick at Yatsuashi, kicking him hard in the face. Yatsuashi grabs Mercury and throws him to the steamy area. As Mercury was on the floor, Yatsuashi jumps into the air and goes for a powerful strike as Mercury blocks it with his feet, making a big clash. Mercury and Yatsuashi kept fighting as Mercury kicks him into a steamy surface as steam pops up in his face.

"Ahhhhhh!" Yatsuashi screamed. Yatsuashi gets dizzy and shakes his head and Mercury kicks him.

Meanwhile, Aunt Coco was being pulled back into the forest. Aunt Coco was slammed into the tree and her glasses broke. Aunt Coco gets up.

"I take it back... I don't like her." Aunt Coco said. Aunt Coco gasped as Emerald was shooting her with her Dual Revolvers. Aunt Coco barely dodges the bullet and uses ger Gatling gun to shoot at Emerald but she dodges it by going into the trees. Emerald suddenly disappears. Aunt Coco looked around for her but she could not find her.

"Damn!" Aunt Coco cursed. "Coco!" Yatsuashi called. "Watch out, she's in the trees!" Aunt Coco said. The loud buzzer went off.

"Oh and with that final blow, Yatsuashi is eliminated!" Professor Port said. "What?!" Aunt Coco cried. Aunt Coco looked around and didn't see Yatsuashi with her. Aunt Coco was trembling. Aunt Coco slowly looks around for Emerald.

"Damn." Aunt Coco cursed again. Emerald slowly goes behind Aunt Coco and hits her with her Sickles. Aunt Coco flies up into the air and lands hard on the ground next to Yatsuashi.

"And with an amazing upset, Emerald and Mercury are victorious!" Oobleck said. The crowd booed. I felt sad Aunt Coco lost, and so did Velvet.

"Coco?" Velvet said. Amy puts her hand on Velvet's shoulder. "It'll be okay. Your team did great." Amy said. "Thanks." Velvet said. Fox also puts his hand on Coco's shoulder to comfort her.

"That was a good match," Yang said. "Yeah, they're fighting was awesome!" I said. "Something's going on," Sonic said. "What do you mean, Mom?" I said. "Isn't it strange that what Coco saw wasn't Yatsuashi?" Sonic said. "That's weird, I didn't see that," Shadow said. "Mean either. I saw Yatsuashi walking behind Aunt Coco." I said. "Sometimes you don't see everything you think you're seeing in battle," Mephiles said.

"I agree with Sonic though." Tails said. "I don't know about this either, but we'll think about this later," Ruby said. "Anyways, come on Tails, I want you to meet my sister," Weiss said. "Okay." Tails said. "Can I come with you to see Aunt Winter too Mother?" I asked. "Sure sweetheart," Weiss said. As I was about to go with Weiss and Tails, Scourge stopped me.

"No. I need to talk with you and Sonic." Scourge said. Oh... I forgot that Scourge wanted to talk with me.

"You better not hurt my kids, Scourge," Shadow said dangerously. Scourge just smirked. Sonic and I walked back to the dorm with Scourge and Fiona.

"I hope they don't beat us again," I said nervously. "Yeah, me too. But don't worry it'll be okay sweetie." Sonic said. "Will you two hurry up?" Scourge said as he shocked me and Sonic. Sonic and I cried in pain and kept following them. I held onto Sonic's hand as we continued walking. We sat down when we got into Scourge and Fiona's dorm.

"You wanted to speak with us, Master?" Sonic said nervously. "Yes. Fiona and I talked and..." Scourge started. "We had a talk and we figured we would reward Lana since she won both of the vital festival rounds with both teams." Scourge said. "Really?" I said. "Yes, you can go to any movie of your choice." Scourge said. "Okay. Then I want to see Avengers: Infinity war when it comes out in theaters." I said. "Alright then." Scourge said.

"What does this have to do with me?" Sonic asked. "Glad you asked. Since I'm rewarding Lana, I figured that the more you two behave and listen to us, the more you guys get rewarded." Scourge said. "So, the more we behave then the more we get rewarded?" I said. "Yes." Scourge said. "But we can take your rewards away from you if you misbehave too much," Fiona said. "O-Okay," I said.

"I think we're done here." Scourge said. "So does that mean we can go?" I said. "Yes, you can go." Scourge said. "Okay," I said. Sonic and I left the room. We let out sighs of relief.

"That wasn't as bad as I thought it would be," Sonic said. "Yeah, I thought they were gonna beat us," I said. "Yeah," Sonic said. "Let's see what team RWBY is up to." Sonic said. "Okay," I said.

*In a courtyard with Weiss, Winter, and Tails, Weiss's POV*

Winter, Tails, and I were sitting at the table drinking tea. "So, Weiss, who's the fox over here?" Winter asked. "Oh, this is Tails, my boyfriend," I said. "Hi." Tails said. "He's your boyfriend?" Winter said with confusion. "Yes," I said. "Hmm," Winter said. I hoped Winter approved of me and Tails being together. I'm glad she approves of Lana as my daughter. Speaking of her, I hope Lana is doing okay with Scourge right now. A while later, Winter told me and Tails that she was leaving.

Tails and I were shocked and saddened by the news.

"You're... Leaving?" I said nervously. "Yes. I was merely needed to oversee the transport of additional units to Vale. Our last shipment was lost to an ambush. I believe you had a run-in with its cargo, actually. It's fortunate those paladins were still in the prototype stage. Otherwise, your team may not have fared well." Winter said. "What are you talking about? Our team did great in the battle." Tails said. I sighed sadly. Winter took hold of my hand to comfort me.

"Weiss... You've done... well... out here on your own. You should be proud." Winter praised. I smiled. "I'll be honest, it was quite amusing seeing father's face the day you left for Beacon," Winter said. "What did his face look like the day Weiss left?" Tails asked. "Amusing, you should've seen his face," Winter said. Tails laughed.

"I would have loved to." Tails said. "I can't wait to show him what I've learned," I said proudly while crossing my arms. "Oh? And what do you think you've learned?" Winter asked me with a smile. "What do you mean? I'm getting better and better with my glyphs." I said. "Yeah, and she's awesome in battle." Tails said. "I've even started time dilation," I said. "And what of your summoning?" Winter asked. "I... You know I can't." I said sadly.

"Don't be ridiculous. Every Schnee has the ability to summon. We have for generations." Winter said. "I've tried! It's just... It's the one thing I'm having trouble with!" I shouted. "We Schnee's are unique. Unlike many, our semblance is heredity. But that doesn't mean that it will come easily. Your semblance is like a muscle. The more you practice with it, the stronger it will become. But if you only focus on one aspect of it... If you fail to test the limits of what you think is possible..." Winter brings out a summon as an ice Grimm appears. I shielded my eyes from the bright light.

"Woah." Tails said. "Then you'll never truly grow," Winter said.

*In team RWBY's dorm, Lana's POV*

Sonic and I walked into the dorm to see Ruby and Uncle Qrow playing video games on the Tv. My wife, Rouge was there as well, Shadow was there also with Yang.

"Hi Rouge, Hi Mom," I said. "Hey, sweetie," Rouge said. "Hi, Lana," Yang said. "How'd things go with Scourge? He didn't hurt you guys, did he?" Shadow said worriedly. "No Dad, he didn't hurt us," I said. "He just talked with us about rewards," Sonic said. "Rewards?" Shadow said with confusion. "Yeah, he said he would reward us more if we behave well," I said. "Oh, interesting," Rouge said.

"What are you guys up to?" Sonic asked. "We're playing some video games, come and join us," Yang said. "Okay," I said. Sonic and I sat down with Yang, Rouge, and Shadow. We were cheering Ruby and Uncle Qrow on as they were in a competitive game.

"You'll never beat me, old man!" Ruby shouted. "Heh, you're nothin' but talk, kid." Uncle Qrow said. "You can do it, Ruby!" Yang cheered. "C'mon Mommy, kick his ass!" I shouted. "Yeah, show him who's boss!" Sonic said.

"Soaring ninja wins! Total annihilation!" The game announcer said. "Ouch," Yang said. Ruby put her head down in disappointment. "Bye the way, don't ever call me 'old." Uncle Qrow said. "My turn!" Yang shouted as she pushed Ruby out of the way and grabbed the controller.

"You did great, Ruby," Sonic said. "Thanks, Sonic," Ruby said. "So you're Sonic. The one that the girls went on adventures with?" Uncle Qrow said. "Yeah. How'd you know?" Sonic said. "Ask them." Uncle Qrow said, looking at Yang and Ruby. Ruby and Yang laughed.

"Of course," Sonic said. "And who are those guys over there?" Uncle Qrow asked, looking at Shadow and Rouge.

"I'm Shadow, I'm Sonic's husband," Shadow said. "And I'm Rouge, Lana's wife," Rouge said. Uncle Qrow and Yang continued their game.

"A new challenger approaches!" The video game said. "Now where was I?" Uncle Qrow said. "You were telling us about your last mission!" Ruby said excitedly. "Right, right. I come across a small village in the swamps of west Mistral. Right off the bat, I knew something wasn't right." Uncle Qrow said. "What were you doing there?" Ruby asked. "I needed information. Tired of battling Grimm along the way. I decided to start my search at the town's Inn. The place was crawling with low-lifes and thugs. Even a few huntsmen I could only assume had been hired by less than reputable people for less than respectable jobs. And that's when it happened." Uncle Qrow said.

"What happened?" Yang asked. "I was defeated by the mere sight... of the innkeeper's skirt length!" Uncle Qrow said. Uncle Qrow caught a pillow that was thrown at him.

"Soaring ninja wins! Total annihilation!" The game said. Yang glared at Uncle Qrow.

"You are the worst!" Yang shouted. I rolled on the ground and had fits of laughter. "Shut up you!" Yang said. Yang tackled me to the ground and began tickling me.

"Mom, s-sstop! Rouge, help me!" I cried and continued to laugh. "Nah, you're on your own sweetie," Rouge said. Yang got off of me and I caught my breath.

"Best two out of three?" Uncle Qrow said. "Move over, my turn!" I said, taking the controller from Yang. "So, Uncle Qrow did you get in trouble with Ozpin?" Ruby asked. "Nah, me and Oz go way back. We're cool." Uncle Qrow said. "Cool for an old guy," Yang said with a scoff. Yang and I laughed.

"Not funny." Uncle Qrow said. "Hey, so, what are you doing here anyway? I thought Dad said you would be away on a mission for like, ever." Ruby said. "Ready? Fight!" The video game said. Uncle Qrow and I got in our positions and began playing our game.

"Well, a professional huntsmen like myself is expected to get results as soon as possible." Uncle Qrow said. "Yeah, I get that. We're pretty much pros too." Ruby said. "Oh, really?" Uncle Qrow said. "Pssh, yeah! Read the news sometimes. We totally saved Vale while you were gone." Yang said. "Funny, because I've heard Vale has suffered a Grimm attack after you almost manage to stop a train." Uncle Qrow said. The game ended and Uncle Qrow won again.

"Soaring ninja wins! Total annihilation!" The game said. "Damn it!" I whined and glared at Uncle Qrow.

"But they don't give out metals for 'almost." Uncle Qrow said. "They do and they're called silver!" Ruby said. "Well, we helped take down Roman Torchwick. He's locked up in Ironwood's ships and crime's been down ever since. That's basically a bounty mission!" Yang said. "Sure, you may be acting like a huntress, but you're not thinking like one. You really think four girls and their friends could end all crime in a kingdom?" Uncle Qrow said.

"I mean, I did until you said it like that," Ruby said. "Violence hasn't dropped since Roman got nabbed. It stopped. Completely. No White Fang activity anywhere around the city. You cut off the head of King Taijitu, but now the second head's calling the shots. That's what Ironwood can't get through that thick metal head of his." Uncle Qrow said. "You... Know the general?" Yang said. "Hey, I know everybody to some extent. Remember, you're talking to a member of the coolest team to ever graduate Beacon!" Uncle Qrow said as he took out a picture of his team.

"That is a cool team." Shadow agreed. "Team STRQ. That's when I met your parents. We were pretty well known back in the day." Uncle Qrow said. "Well known for crummy fashion sense," Ruby said. "Hey, we looked good! And I have a number of inappropriate stories that'll back that up." Uncle Qrow said.

"Ew, gross! Not in front of our kid please!" Ruby said. "Please Uncle Qrow, can you tell them to me?" I asked. "No, Lana, not right now," Shadow said. "Aw c'mon Dad!" I whined. "Heh. Best if you listen to your parents, kid. I'll save those stories for when you're older." Uncle Qrow said. Uncle Qrow stood up. "Anyways, I'm too old to be hanging out with a bunch of kids. You're gonna cramp my style. Look, just remember that you still got a long way to go. And don't think for a second that graduating means you're done!" Uncle Qrow said. "Every day out there is worth a week in this place. You three, you're gonna go far. But only if you keep learning. If you never stop moving forward." Uncle Qrow said. With that, he left the dorm.

"Your Uncle isn't so bad, Ruby," Sonic said. "Yeah, he's actually a cool guy," I said. "He, heh. Yeah." Ruby said. "I'm a bit nervous about the match tomorrow," I said. "Don't worry babe, you'll do great and Weiss and I will be there with you," Yang said. "Thanks, Mom," I said and smiled.

*With Weiss, Winter, and Tails, Weiss's POV*

I was training with my sister, Winter, and my boyfriend, Tails was helping me train as well. I summoned a glyph and prepared my summon.

"C'mon Weiss, you can do it." Tails said. "Excellent form. Now think of your fallen forms! The ones that force you to push yourself past who you were and become who you are now. Think of them and watch as they come by your side." Winter said. I tried my best to think but I was having a hard time concentrating. My glyph was growing smaller and I grew frustrated.

"I can't!" I shouted. "Stop doubting yourself!" Winter shouted as she slapped me. "I'm trying!" I yelled. "Winter, don't be so hard on her." Tails said. "If this is what you call trying, then you have no hope of winning the tournament. Let alone succeeding as a huntress. Why don't you move back home? I'm sure father will give you a nice job as a receptionist." Winter said. "I don't need his charity," I said. "But you do need his money, don't you?" Winter said.

Tails and I were in shocked that she knew about that. "Huh?" Tails said. "What?! How did you know about that?!" I cried. "Lucky guess. I may have been in a similar situation when I joined the military. So what have you done this time?" Winter asked. "Well, that's the thing. I'm really not sure. I went to pay for lunch the other day, but my card didn't work." I said. "How embarrassing," Winter said. "I know!" I shouted. Winter just shook her head.

"Well, it was. Why would he cut me off like that?" I said. "Perhaps so you'd stop avoiding him and call home," Winter said. I gritted my teeth and summoned my glyph again.

"Emotions can grant your strength. But you must never let them overpower you. It sounds to me like you have two choices in front of you. You can either call him, beg for your money back and explain once more why you want to study at Beacon over Atlas. Or... you could continue to explore remnant. Discovering more about the world and honestly, more about yourself." Winter said. It stayed silent for a minute but then Winter spoke up.

"It's time for me to go." She said. Winter gave me a hug and I hugged her back.

"It was really good to see you, Winter," I said. "Until next time, sister," Winter said. Winter then looked over to Tails.

"Hey, Fox. Take care of my sister for me?" Winter said. Tails smiled and nodded. "Of course." Tails said. Tails and I held hands as Winter and I parted ways. I watched as my sister's ship was flying in the night sky. Tails and I waved at the ship. I suddenly heard my scroll ringing and saw it was my father calling me.

"Are you gonna answer that?" Tails asked. "No, I don't think so. Not right now." I said. "Okay." Tails said. I then got a text from Ruby saying that our daughter is okay and safe in our dorms. I sighed with relief because I was worried about her.

Tails and I then headed back to our dorms.
