Author's note:

1 - Regarding some questions, the story in Spanish was shorter, the chapters were longer and there are some differences. In this story, I split the chapters to translate them (When I edit the story it will be 37 chapters).

2 - I added more details of the other characters at the request of several readers, if some reader doesn't want to read those chapters, they can skip them.

3 - While this story deviates from canon, I try to follow the same canon guidelines. Anyone who read P&P probably hated Darcy for at least two-thirds of the story. In my opinion, it is realistic that Darcy is not enthusiastic about Elizabeth's connections...

4 - Lady Matlock is the equivalent of Lady Catherine but with more power...

January 1812 - Sandstone (Jane & Mr. Bennet)

During the three-day trip to Sandstone, Mr. Bennet came to the sad conclusion that he didn't know his daughter, and up to that time he had never made the effort to know her. On the first day of the trip, Mr. Bennett got the idea that Jane might be interested in reading some of the books he had brought, and with a smile, he commented…

"I brought some books, maybe you want to read some of them on the way."

Jane smiled politely, "Thank you father, what books do you have?"

"Hamlet, Plato's Republic, and Newton's Chronology of Ancient Kingdoms."

Jane stared at him, except Hamlet, she didn't know who the other authors were. She had started reading Hamlet a few years ago, but she didn't like it and left it halfway through. "Except for Shakespeare, I don't know who the other authors are."

"Don't you know who Platon and Newton are?" he asked in amazement.

Jane shook her head.

"Plato was a Greek philosopher who lived 2,000 years ago and Newton was an English mathematician and inventor who passed away last century."

"Why are you reading a book by a Greek who lived 2,000 years ago?" she asked curious.

Mr. Bennet spoke for over half an hour about the influence of the Greeks on modern society, Socrates and Plato's books. Jane just smiled, but honestly, she didn't really care what her father was talking about...

Perhaps at some point she regretted going to her father, but when she recalled her mother's constant complaints that Mr. Bingley had abandoned her along with the reminder that she was on her way to becoming an old maid, she realized that she preferred to listen to her father and even read Plato…

On the second day of the trip, she chose to embroider a gown and some handkerchiefs, while her father read most of the day.

When they arrived at Sandstone, the housekeeper and steward were astonished to see Mr. Bennet arrived with a young lady who was not Miss Thompson, since from the letter he sent they had assumed the young lady was Miss Thompson.

Until then, Jane had never traveled so far from Longbourn, and although she was not a nature lover, she found the landscape very different from Hertfordshire and beautiful…

PPPP

For the past four years, Miss Taylor – despite having more than £1000 – had been caring for her sick mother, giving piano lessons to some merchants' daughters and teaching at Pemberley School.

She had not been back to Sandstone, but she knew from Mr. Shaw that there were some problems at the estate. On more than one occasion she thought about telling Elizabeth what was happening at Sandstone but finally decided against it since Elizabeth was going to be sad and there was nothing she could do until she came of age. She was very upset with Mr. Bennet and Mr. Gardiner for not taking proper care of their niece and nephews' estate! Even what Mr. Shaw had told her, she was convinced that Mr. Bennet and Mr. Gardiner were stealing money from Sandstone, but she had no proof...

When she heard that Mr. Bennet was expected to arrive at Sandstone with his niece, she asked one of her neighbors - who had a small horse cart - to take her there. Needless to say, she was surprised to see that the lady in Sandstone was not Miss Thompson but Miss Bennet...

"...I thought Miss Thompson had come with Mr. Bennet."

"No, my cousin is in London at the moment."

"Yes, I know. But I was just surprised that she didn't come because I know very well that she is looking forward to returning to Sandstone…"

After speaking with Miss Bennet for a few minutes, Miss Taylor concluded that Mr. Bennet had not invited Elizabeth to Sandstone. Unfortunately, she was unable to speak to Mr. Bennet that day because he was in a meeting with Mr. Shaw.

Unfortunately, within a few days, Miss Taylor's mother's health deteriorated further and she died three weeks later... so she didn't return to Sandstone to speak to Mr. Bennet...
