Epilogue
Night fell on the northern lands and the trolls had long since returned to their home deep in Arendelle's wilderness. Most of their family had already gone to bed but one was still awake. Steinfar stood beside the great mural with a somber expression and with a wave of his hand the moss lifted above a later segment he had not bidden to show them all. The first image showed Aldren and the Witch King's deaths, followed by Rapunzel resurrecting him-which brought a brief smile to his face. A more disturbing image of two mysterious figures followed; The first a black cloaked sorcerer holding, in one hand, a staff crowned by a red gem of tyranite while the other was pointed towards the opposing figure. Th second was an Alfar woman in brass colored robes with a crown of golden leaves upon her head holding with her hand out in defiance of the shadowy figure.
With a weary sigh he placed his hand over the carving of the alfar, "Now. It falls to you...old friend..."
OoO
A fleet of battle worn Naga Ai vessels drifted lazily across the sea and on the deck of the flagship stood Tarn looking on into the distance in silence. Leaning over the railing on the starboard side was Venereth, a hand held over the wound on her abdomen-streaks under her eyes where tears had long since been dried by the wind. Across on the port side was Sorvec, who sharpened one of his cruel blades against a whetstone, all the while eying the witch knight. As the silence of bitter defeat carried among everyone aboard the assassin's eye narrowed and his gaze became apparent with ill intent. He rose and silently made his way towards her with his blade drawn, it was his intent to kill her for her weakness or, if for nothing else, because it would make him feel better.
Before he could get close a sudden flash bright green light flared through the fog in the distance that drew their attention. Eventually a massive shape pierced the vale of the fog, it was a ship unlike any the world had ever seen. It had no sails and the hull was completely composed of pale green steel. The deck sat so tall that it could not be seen by them from the Naga ship and what they could see was iconography and design on the hull that was equal parts grotesque and splendorous. It sailed alongside their fleet and came to a stop before a large metal ramp extended to their deck, clamping on and partly crushing it.
After a brief moment the general made his way up the ramp, with Venereth and Sorvec following. A large insignia engraved into the ship's hull came into view as they ascended; a three headed serpent. As they reached the lower deck- which was nearly as large as their own ship in itself, several rows of naga soldiers stood at attention. Their armor was the same sickly green color of the ship and their masks more demonic than their crimson counterparts.
They stopped midway through and looked to the upper deck several feet above to see a shadowy figure. They wore dark green armor and black robes, a masked helm-not unlike their slain master's, save for the two extra faces grotesquely flanking the center one. Suddenly the figure flashed in green light that blinded them, opening their eyes he was suddenly right in front of them. They clasped their hands behind them as they walked forward, their masked began to fold and peel away, revealing black-graying hair, a pale scarred face and green serpentine eyes.
Venereth and Sorvec knelt while Tarn continued to stand, "Lord Hydris."
Hydris smiled, "General, I take it the battle went ill?" Tarn said nothing, "And our glorious master?"
"He is Dead."
He nodded, "An unfortunate set back...but one we will overcome."
He bid the other two to stand and began to walk around, first tracing a hand along the edge of Tarn's missing arm, "Tell me...who was it that could have brought Amicus' mighty general so low?"
With a soft growl he replied, "An Arendellian who fought alongside the queen; an elemental like her...and yet not."
Hydris paused, "This elemental...was the blade he wielded Alfar make?"
"Yes. He called it Black Autumn."
He smiled before chuckling, seemingly amused by this knowledge, "How unexpected..."
Venereth's head raised slightly, "You are familiar with him..."
Suddenly he was in front of her, a bemused smirk on his face that startled her, "Indeed I am, as I sense you are." When she attempted to avert his gaze he lifted he chin with a steel claw, "That sword belongs to me and I intend to take it from him...along with everything else."
Releasing her he turned his back to the trio to walk a short distance away, he reached to his side and grasped a small steel scepter crowned by a pointed tyranite gem. With a slight motion the handle extended into a long staff, then set it's end against the deck as he spoke, "Until then however...we have much work to do if we are to defeat these humans and crush their nascent rebellion before it takes root." he looked on in the direction they had fled from with a wicked smile, "They know not what awaits them; mankind, the alfar. They have only heard the most distant drumbeats and know that war is coming...with all it's glory and all-it's-horror."
Well it only took two years but at last this story has finally ended...or at least this version of it.
After a great deal of deliberation I have decided to put this story through yet another rewrite, I know that's probably not what a lot of you wanted to hear but let me explain. I was never dissatisfied with the latter half of this story; where and how it ended I think was ultimately what I had always envisioned when I first started on this nearly a decade ago. But the journey to get to the end still feels very rough and lacking direction. Characters and locations would pop up out of the blue without the proper setup and flow required for them to believable, while some chapters I wrote felt completely pointless and unnecessary looking back.
But the good news is that this story you just finished will still be up for you to read, I won't be taking it down like I did the very original. As well, the coming rewrite will be my final version of this story, afterwards I will finally be moving forwards to tell more stories in this universe.
And with that I wanted to give you all an idea of my plans for the future; a Frozen roadmap if you will.
Frozen: The Crocus and the Crow (rewrite first half)
Frozen: The Dragon and the Viper (rewrite second half)
Frozen: Cursed (Prequel about Aldren and Elsa's pasts)
Frozen: The Hydra and the Manticore (First sequel to the Dragon and the Viper)
No specific dates as of yet, but I have a more clear vision of my goal with my writing than I've ever had before. I've already made significant headway on the rewrite, I also have a one shot centered around Aldren and Elsa so keep your eyes on the horizon for that soon. And if that's something you all are interested in I'd love to hear any other ideas or suggestions you have for more short stories you'd like to see with these characters.
I can't be thankful enough for those who enjoyed (and endured my slow uploads) my version of this story and I think you'll enjoy the final cut even more when it releases. That's all for now and I'll see you all soon!
