Chapter 16: Supernatural Class

"I wanna be a kitty cat, a kitty cat, a kitty cat. I wanna be a kitty cat, a kitty cat, a kitty cat, and lounge around all day!" Adeline finished her song that had been made up on the spot two hours before and sung non-stop under her breath.

"Adeline, must you sing that infernal song again?" Blaise asked, gathering his books to finally leave the Transfiguration classroom.

"You don't like it?" Adeline pouted.

"Not particularly, no."

"Well, we get to see my brothers next. I do hope that Dean listens to Sam at least somewhat. Last time Dean was a teacher, he was a terrible one. And he wore shorts."

"What does him wearing shorts have to do with anything?" Susan asked as she joined the two on their way to their supernatural class.

"He never wears shorts! And sorry I didn't see you at breakfast. The Headmaster needed to bother me and deprive me of my food. But Blaise here is a saint and brought me some."

"Is this going to be a regular thing? You calling Blaise a saint?"

"Probably. It's my way of trying to show my appreciation for you guys. I have so many nicknames saved up. I can't wait to use them all," was Adeline's reply as they got to the classroom designated for the new class.

"How do you always know where you're going?" Blaise asked Adeline.

"I don't. I follow Cas. He always knows where to go."

"Your cat?" Susan seemed surprised.

"He's especially good at finding my brother, Dean. They have a profound bond."

"A profound bond? Cas is your brother's familiar?"

"No. Cas is an angel and he pulled Dean back up from hell."

Susan stopped them, "What?"

"Angels and demons will be explained in class. I'll go into more detail later, too."

"Fine," Susan agreed.

"Hello, everyone, please find a seat," Sam announced as they entered the room.

"Do we need to do attendance?" Dean asked.

"Yes, Dean," Sam shot back, annoyance clear.

"Oh, Sam's done with Dean. I should probably separate them," Adeline told her friends, amused smile on her face. "Ah, well. Later."

"You're seriously not concerned?" Susan asked, taking the seat next to Adeline at the desk, leading Blaise to take a seat at the desk behind the two girls.

"They do this all the time. They rarely get into physical fights. It'll be fine. I'll find something for them to get the extra energy out later, so they'll stop fighting." They watched as Cas made his way to the desk at the front of the classroom and transformed into his vessel.

"Cas is..."

"An angel. I do believe I told you this, Susan."

"You did. I didn't think you were serious."

Adeline chuckled. "I'm not. That's my godfather. But I wasn't lying."

"Your godfa- How did he get dragged into this? I thought we were talking about angels and demons being real." Poor Susan was extremely confused.

"You mentioned him."

"No. No, I didn't."

"Darling, his name is Sirius."

"In Merlin's name. I'm going to have to watch what I say, aren't I?"

"I guess. If you bring Sirius up, I'm going to talk about him." Susan put her head down.

Blaise decided to chime in then, "I think you broke her, Adeline."

"It's bound to happen more than once," Adeline told Blaise while petting Susan's back. "Your robes are really soft." Both Slytherins could hear her laugh at that offhand remark.

They were interrupted by Sam calling for attendance. "Susan Bones?"

"Right here, Professor."

"Good, good," Sam muttered, marking the parchment he had in front of him on the desk. And he slowly continued through the list, Adeline and Blaise interrupting their continued conversation when their names were called.

"Okay, good, everyone's here. If I can get your attention up here. I am Sam Winchester, and this is my brother, Dean," Sam started the class, grabbing the attention of everyone in the classroom. "For everyone who didn't know, this class is new this year. This is going to be your introduction to both magical and non-magical threats. We are going to cover some subjects that will overlap with your Defense Against the Dark Arts class, but it's better to be over prepared than under prepared. You will be required to attend to take this class until your third year, after which you can drop it. Most of what we will be talking about, Dean and I have run into at some point in time. Does anyone have any guesses as to what we will be covering?"

Adeline raised her hand.

"Anyone?" Sam chanced again. "No? Adeline, what will we be covering?"

"Angels, demons, minor gods, a few different urban legends, wendigos, ghosts, woman in white, Bloody Mary, cursed objects, uh... I'm missing a good many, but that's a good start."

"Yes. Anyone else have any guesses?" Sam asked, writing everything Adeline had listed on the blackboard.

A red-headed Hufflepuff girl a few seats over raised her hand.

"Yes... Miss Abbott?"

"Maybe vampires or werewolves?" came the girl's shy voice.

"We will," Sam confirmed. "Can anyone tell me anything about any of these things?"

It was Blaise's turn to raise his hand. "Vampires can be killed by fire, a stake to the heart, and beheading."

"The stake part is a myth. But fire and beheading both work."

Adeline again raised her hand and Sam nodded for her to answer. "Fire will work on nearly everything, especially if you have the right accelerant. Hair spray and a lighter will quickly become your best friends on hunts. Angels, ghosts, wendigos, cursed objects, so on and so forth will all be affected in some way by fire. It has purifying effects unless you use hellfire or fyendfire. In which case, you wanna be ready with a blood sacrifice to avoid getting yourself and everyone surrounding you killed."

"Correct. Did Crowley tell you all that?"

"Nope. Uncle Luci."

Sam nodded resigned. "That was my second guess. Can anyone else tell me anything?"

The rest of the class passed with Sam asking questions, Dean and Castiel having a conversation no one else could hear, and Adeline answering all questions when no one else dared try. When the bell finally rang, Castiel turned back into a cat and joined Adeline and her friends in the hallway to lead their way to the Great Hall for lunch.

"Sit together at lunch?" Adeline asked, following the black cat.

"Of course! Hufflepuff table?" Susan responded.

"That's sounds good. I'll grab Seamus to eat with us too," Adeline continued.

The Slytherins and Gryffindor eating at the Hufflepuff table were side eyed by members from every house, but ultimately left to their food and conversation, all four looking forward to their last class of the day.
