I do not own Harry Potter or the Vampire Diaries
"He was pleased. Didn't you hear him as we were leaving? He was asking that bloke from the Daily Prophet if he'd be able to work the fight into his report, said it was all publicity." Fred informed his mother.
But it was a subdued group that headed back to the fireside in the Leaky Cauldron, where Delilah, the Weasleys, and all their shopping would be traveling back to the Burrow using Floo powder. They said goodbye to the Grangers, who were leaving the pub for the Muggle street on the other side; Mr. Weasley started to ask them how bus stops worked, but stopped quickly at the look on Mrs. Weasley's face.
"Their relationship is so cute." Elena gushed as Jeremy and Damon roll their eyes at her before the scene shifted around them.
"Hey, you guys want to freshen up or something before the next part plays?" Delilah asked and they nodded at her, she thought for a second before suddenly there was a boys' and girls' bathroom in front of them and they all went inside to freshen up, thankful that there were more than one stall and clothes prepared for them. They just realized that they had spent ages in here and had not felt either hungry or sleepy, clearly, time passed differently in her head. After around half an hour, they all came out freshened up, with different clothes on as Delilah vanished the bathrooms.
"You look beautiful angel," Damon said as he pulled Delilah towards him by the belt loop of her jeans.
"Thank you. You look rather dashing yourself Ocean eyes," Delilah said as she looked him over in appreciation.
"Hmm. Thank you, angel." Damon said smirking at her before he kissed her lips as he wrapped his arms around her. Delilah smiled into the kiss before they both pulled away a moment later.
"Is anyone hungry?" Delilah asked them curiously, the vampires shook their heads, probably because of the blood pops she had shoved into their mouths but Elena and Jeremy were a little bit, so she gave them a few sweets in the meantime before they would eat later on, then she played the memory.
They were once again back at King's Cross Station where the car that the twins and Ron had used to save Delilah was parked. They see Delilah and the Weasley family rushing to get through the barrier and considering the time Arthur said it was, they had every right to.
"Fred, George, Percy, you first!" Mr Weasley instructs as Fred pushes his cart through the barrier to Platform 9¾, followed by Percy and George.
Mrs. Weasley pats Ginny on the back as she says, "Okay." Ginny pushes her cart and runs through the wall as Mr. and Mrs. Weasley follow right behind her.
"Why do I have a sudden feeling something is going to go wrong?" Jeremy asked concerned and Delilah's silence didn't really help at all.
They then watched as Delilah's younger self and Ron both push their cars directly for the wall, however, to their shock, instead of going through the wall, Delilah inexplicably crashed into it falling over whilst Ron loses control of his cart and falls over as well.
"Ow!" Delilah groaned holding her ribs as she felt the impact and the others wince realizing the same thing, that did not look pretty at all, it honestly must have hurt.
"You okay Angel?" Damon asked worriedly as he kissed her neck softly, his arms very loosely wrapped around her from behind so that he didn't hurt her.
"Just give me a second, I hadn't honestly felt it considering the shock at the time but Merlin, that actually hurt," Delilah said holding her ribs in pain. Damon starts peppering kisses on her cheek and down her neck to distract her from the pain as the others turned away from them. Delilah smiled at Damon's way of distracting her, surprisingly it worked, all she could feel and think about were his lips on her skin. "Damie, you've gotta stop." Delilah gasped out quietly after a moment.
Damon looked up about to ask why before he noticed how flushed she was and he smirked devilishly. "Now why should I do that angel?" He asked as he carried on instead.
"Damie, please?" Delilah breathed out pleadingly and he literally froze at that, God did she have any idea what she was doing to him?
"The things you're doing to me angel," Damon groaned as he buried his head in her neck before planting one more soft kiss on the exposed smooth skin of her shoulder.
"We should play now," Delilah said her face still red from what had just happened.
"I suppose," Damon said with a pout before she played the memory.
Hedwig's cage bounced onto the shiny floor, and she rolled away, shrieking indignantly; people all around them stared and a guard nearby yelled, "What in the blazes d'you think you're doing?"
"Sorry. Lost control of the trolley," Delilah gasped, clutching her ribs as she got up. Ron ran to pick up Hedwig, who was causing such a scene that there was a lot of muttering about cruelty to animals from the surrounding crowd.
"Why can't we get through?" Delilah hissed to Ron.
"I dunno," Ron said looking wildly around. "We're going to miss the train. I don't understand why the gateway's sealed itself."
"Doesn't it leave at 12?" Stefan asked remembering the time from the first year.
"Yup," Delilah said nodding her head.
"You've literally got 10 seconds or so before the train leaves," Stefan said and the others turned to look at the giant clock above them and realized he was right, what were they going to do?
"Why on earth is the gateway sealed?" Damon asked confused.
"You'll find out later," Delilah said teasingly as he groaned into her neck.
"Exactly how long is that going to take?" Jeremy asked concerned.
"Uh...that depends on how many pauses we have in between," Delilah said before she played the memory again.
Delilah wheeled her trolley forward cautiously until it was right against the barrier and pushed with all her might but it still remained solid, the onlookers watched as the last 3 seconds passed before Ron said stunned, "It's gone. The train's left. What if Mum and Dad can't get back through to us? Have you got any Muggle money?"
Delilah gave a hollow laugh as she said, "My adoptive parents would never waste their precious hard-earned money by giving me even a pound, so no I don't,"
Ron then pressed his ear to the cold barrier as he said, "Can't hear a thing. What're we going to do? I don't know how long Mum and Dad will take to get back to us."
They looked around. People were still watching them, mainly because of Hedwigs's continuing screeches.
"I think we'd better go and wait by the car. We're attracting too much atten..." Delilah was saying before she was cut off.
"Lilah! The car!" Ron said his eyes gleaming.
"Don't tell me he's going to say what I think he's going to say," Elena said as she realized what Ron's plan was.
"What about it?" Delilah's younger self asked confused.
"We can fly the car to Hogwarts!" Ron said with a bright smile on his face.
"But I thought..." Delilah said but Ron interjected.
"We're stuck, right? And we've got to get to school, haven't we? And even underage wizards are allowed to use magic if it's a real emergency, section nineteen or something of the Restriction of Thingy..." Ron said.
"But your Mum and Dad...How will they get home?" Delilah asked him curiously.
"They don't need the car! They know how to Apparate! You know, just vanish and reappear at home! They only bother with Floo powder and the car because we're all underage and we're not allowed to Apparate yet..." Ron informed him.
"Why don't I just write a letter and send it through Hedwig," Delilah suggested, Ron seemed downtrodden at the idea of not flying the car before he reluctantly agreed, except they did not expect that as soon as they opened the cage, Hedwig flew off before they could even tie the letter on.
"Well that's a bummer," Jeremy said as he watched the owl fly away.
"Yup. She was mad at me for quite a while after that." Delilah said fondly.
"You speak of it as if it were human," Stefan said confused.
"She's my familiar as I told you all before, I can feel her emotions and know what she's thinking, it was all part of the bond," Delilah said softly as she swallowed. Hedwig owned a major part of the empty void inside of her that used to be filled with the people she loved, she was her best friend, her confidant, her familiar and she would never forget her.
"Baby you ok?" Damon asked her softly.
"Yeah I'm fine," Delilah replied back, though he knew she was anything but and he sighed as he kissed the side of her head in comfort, whilst she smiled at the action.
"So can you fly the car?" Delilah turned towards Ron and asked right after Hedwig flew away.
"No problem. C'mon, let's go, if we hurry we'll be able to follow the Hogwarts Express." Ron said to her before they walked off through the crowd of curious Muggles, out of the station and back onto the side road where the old Ford Anglia was parked. Ron unlocked the cavernous trunk with a series of taps from his wand. They heaved their luggage back in, put Hedwig's empty cage on the back seat, and got into the front.
"Check that no one's watching," Ron said, starting the ignition with another tap of his wand. Delilah stuck her head out of the window: Traffic was rumbling along the main road ahead, but their street was empty.
"No sign of any human life forms on the street sir," Delilah said jokingly.
Ron snorted at her before he pressed a tiny silver button on the dashboard. The car around them vanished and so did they.
"Why isn't the scene changing?" Elena asked confused since they couldn't see the car anymore.
"No idea," Delilah said, a minute or so later when there were no signs of anything changing, Delilah used her magic and conjured up a few brooms. "Guess we're going to have to fly there this way. Elena go with Stefan, just hold on to the broom and push up, only one of you direct the broom and just don't tilt it, you don't want to fall off."
Elena looked scared at the thought of being in the air, but Stefan reassured her that it will be fine and because of his reflexes, he would easily catch her if anything happens. She nodded reluctantly before he told her to go in front as he moved behind her and did as Delilah instructed. Elena screamed as they zoomed through the air whilst he laughed, this was fun he thought.
"Ok which one of you is ok with going alone?" Delilah asked them two and they both exchanged a look with each other before Jeremy sighed.
"Fine I'll go by myself," Jeremy said as he nervously got on one broom and lifted off, it took him a moment to get the hang of it before he laughed as he went closer to Stefan and Elena, he never thought he'd experience this, like ever.
Delilah hopped on the broom as Damon got on behind her, she said, "I'll direct the broom, so wrap you arms around my waist instead." She blushed as she said this and he smirked as he wrapped his arms around her pulling her towards him before she kicked off the ground and flew effortlessly in the air catching up with the others. Damon looked around him as they flew, no wonder she liked that game, Quidditch, being on a broom was invigorating he thought as she flew expertly through the sky until he reached the others. He laughed at Elena's freaked-out face though he noticed that Stefan and Little Gilbert seemed to be enjoying the ride, even moreso when Delilah gave a few more pointers which helped Elena to calm down and actually notice the view around them, in front of them, and the whole of London that lay, smoky and glittering, below them.
Delilah lead them to where she remembered the route of the train passed knowing that the car would be there and she was right, as all of a sudden, the flying car appeared down the route.
They watched confused as it vanished again before flickering back and Delilah clarified seeing their confused faces, "The invisibility booster stopped working."
"Shit! You're still in a muggle town you know? They could see you." Jeremy said and the others realized the same thing before they watched as Ron maneuvered the car so that it would shoot up through the clouds. Delilah motioned for the others to do so and despite their slight apprehension, they went higher through the clouds, Elena closed her eyes in fright, she'd much rather be on the ground to be honest.
And they shot up through the clouds. A minute later, they burst out into a blaze of sunlight.
It was a different world. The wheels of the car skimmed the sea of fluffy cloud, the sky a bright, endless blue under the blinding white sun before the scene shifted around them, thankfully though they had remained seated on their brooms. They looked around in awe at the pink sky, it was absolutely beautiful they all thought before they realized something when they noticed the car was still there.
"How long were you guys in there?" Stefan asked shocked at the change in time and the fact that the car was still there.
"Hours. Very very long hours." Delilah said as she remembered how horrible it had been.
"What in the...Lilah!" Jeremy suddenly shouted out and they looked to him confused before following his line of sight to see something truly horrific. Her younger self was dangling outside the car window barely holding on.
"Oh. I had forgotten about that." Delilah mumbled to herself as they all tried to concentrate on flying the broom and watching her younger self apprehensively and in complete horror, one slip and she could have been dead, Damon's arms became tighter around her at that before he pushed her hair in front of her considering it was blowing in his face, only for it to obscure her own vision, and with a thought, it was suddenly tied up in a braid. Damon kissed the back of her neck before looking back up at the car and sighed in relief along with the others when she was pulled back in.
"I was right. You're definitely going to give me a heart attack." Damon said before a moment later, they noticed how much the car was jerking and they exchanged concerned glances.
"Can you all see it guys? The castle?" Delilah asked pointing to where, silhouetted on the dark horizon, high on the cliff over the lake, stood the many turrets and towers of Hogwarts castle and they all sighed in relief before noticing the smoke coming out from the hoods of the flying car. They all flew all the way to the castle before hopping off the brooms as they watched the car coming in to land except it wasn't landing, it look like it was going to crash, and crash it did, right into a huge tree and they all shouted out in concern.
They watched as the car landed in the tree upside down barely holding on, they relaxed slightly when the car did not look like it was going to fall. Delilah felt dizzy as she held her head, she remembered she had hit her head in the crash and now her head was throbbing. Damon looked at her concerned as she swayed slightly holding her head and he immediately pulled her to him and cupped her cheek looking into her slightly unfocused eyes as he said, "Angel, are you hurt?" The others turned to them at that and noticed how out of it Delilah seemed.
"Yeah I-I'm fine, my younger self just hit her head on the windshield when the car crashed." Delilah explained and they were even more concerned at that, which she noticed for she said, "It's fine, my head's just throbbing." It didn't ease their worries at all but they turned back to the memory when Delilah resumed it.
"What in the world!"
"What the hell is that?!"
"Oh my God!"
"Shit! Get the hell out of there!"
They all shouted out concerned when all of a sudden, the branch of the tree somehow lifted itself up and hit the car and it was like a signal for the other branches to start pummelling it as well. The branches were literally stabbing the car and they kept on looking at Delilah to see if she got hurt but thankfully she didn't, but they were still concerned when the branches were literally bashing the roof in.
Suddenly and thankfully, the car shot backward; the tree was still trying to hit them; they could hear its roots creaking as it almost ripped itself up, lashing out at them as they sped out of reach and they all sighed in relief when they made it safely.
What they didn't expect was for the car doors' to fly open and for both Delilah and Ron to be literally thrown out of it as both Delilah's grunted from the impact. Loud thuds told them that the car was ejecting their luggage from the trunk; Hedwig's cage flew through the air. Then, dented, scratched, and steaming, the car rumbled off into the darkness, its rear lights blazing angrily.
"I see what you mean by the car having a mind of its own," Stefan said faintly as they watched the car drive off by itself in shock.
"Is that normal in your world?" Jeremy asked still staring after the car.
"Nope. When magic and muggle tech cross ways, crazy things can happen." Delilah said and she and Hermione knew that better than anyone with all their experiments to make it work.
"Yeah, I can see that," Elena said, like the others, still shocked at what they had just seen.
"Come back!" Ron yelled after it, brandishing his apparently broken wand. "Dad'll kill me!" But the car disappeared from view with one last snort from its exhaust.
"His wand is broken." Elena noticed wondering how he was going to use it now.
"Yeah he accidentally broke it when he was trying to do a spell to move the car," Delilah explained.
"Can you believe our luck?" Ron said miserably, bending down to pick up Scabbers, as Delilah glared at the damned rat, she hated Pettigrew with a passion and was glad that he was dead. "Of all the trees we could've hit, we had to get one that hits back."
"He's not wrong, what kind of tree was that anyway?" Jeremy asked curiously as he stared at the tree that stood before them.
"That was the Whomping Willow," Delilah said as she remembered her next encounter with the blasted thing, if only Pettigrew hadn't escaped then, so many things could have been different, Uncle Padfoot would have been free, Voldemort might not have risen therefore Ced wouldn't have died and then all the people she had lost later would still be here.
"I see why it's called that," Damon said and his voice jolted her out of her thoughts. Damon noticed that her mind had been somewhere else but he didn't question it, a lot had happened recently, she was going to get lost in thought sooner or later.
"Come on. We'd better get up to the school..." Delilah said before walking inside the castle as the onlookers follow them both into the Entrance Hall, as they leave their belongings with the rest of the students' luggage.
They both then run up the steps along with the others as Delilah said, "So a house-elf shows up in my bedroom, we can't get through the barrier to Platform 9¾, we almost get killed by a tree... clearly someone doesn't want me here this year." Her first sentence had them all remembering what had happened prior to coming here, back at her home, with her adoptive father, they couldn't even call him that to be honest, he was just a monster. They all pushed it to the back of their minds because whenever they thought about that, all they heard were her screams and cries and it nearly drove them to tears so they tried not to dwell on it, no matter how hard it was.
As they reached the top of the stairs, they come face-to-face with the caretaker, and his pet cat as he glared at them with a malicious smile on his lips and said, "Well, take a good look around. This night might well be the last you spend in this castle." Delilah and Ron glanced at each other nervously as he continued smiling more devilishly, "Oh, dear, we are in trouble."
The scene shifted around them and now they were all standing in a classroom with Delilah and Ron as her Uncle Sev held up a newspaper article about their flying car at King's Cross Station and said, "You were seen by no less than seven Muggles!" He furiously throws the newspaper aside and glares at them as he says, "Do you have any idea how serious this is? You have risked the exposure of our world. Not to mention the damage you inflicted on a Whomping Willow that's been on these grounds since before you were born!"
"What could have happened had the humans found out?" Damon asked curiously.
"Humans fear what they do not understand and fear can become a trigger of war. You and Steffie have been through them have you not, it would be like that, except even worse considering the rise in technology, and then comparing our numbers to theirs adding their tech in the mix, they could potentially wipe us all out," Delilah explained as they looked at her in horror. "Mystic Falls is a very small place, so small that it is off the wizarding world's radar, it's why with the things that have been happening here, nothing has shown up in the records in the Ministry, it's also why I was able to tell you all beforehand otherwise any muggle that knows would be obliviated."
"Obli-what?" Damon asked confused.
"Obliviated. It means they'll have their memory wiped, not all of it, of course..." Delilah quickly clarified when she saw their faces, "...just when they learned about magic." They sighed in relief at that before turning back to the memory when Delilah resumed it.
"Honestly, Professor Snape, I think it did more damage to us," Ron said and Delilah stepped on his shoe as she mumbled, "Shut up Ron."
"Silence!" He snapped before walking around his desk towards them as he said, "I assure you, that were you in Slytherin and your fate rested with me, the both of you would be on the train home tonight!"
"But sir it wasn't exactly our first choice, I first thought to send a letter through Hedwig but when I was about to tie the letter to her, she kind of flew away already. You see, the gateway was closed for some reason, and then we banged into it, Hedwig's cage went flying and now she's really mad at me, which is why she flew off but I swear we wouldn't have done that had there not been any other option. We didn't know the invisibility booster thing on the car would become faulty, it happened later and then we couldn't exactly do anything when we were in the air so we tried using the clouds as cover. We're really really sorry sir, please don't send us home," Delilah rambled pleadingly, she didn't want to be sent back there, she knew exactly what would be coming for her after how she left and she didn't want to go through that again. She rummaged in her pocket and pulled out the letter she was going to send to Hedwig and showed him.
They saw his eyes soften as he looked at her before taking the letter, realizing that she had been telling the truth, not noticing that Dumbledore and Professor Mcgonagall had come in and heard.
"Professor Dumbledore, Professor McGonagall," Delilah said surprised when she noticed them in the room.
"As Head of Gryffindor House, it is for Professor McGonagall to determine the appropriate action Severus." Dumledore said as Delilah's future self scowled at him.
"We'll go and get our stuff then," Ron said dejectedly after a moment when no one said anything.
"What are you talking about, Mr. Weasley?" Mcgonagall asked with a stern raised eyebrow.
"Well, you're going to expel us, aren't you?" Ron said but Mcgonagall shook her head.
"Not today, Mr. Weasley. You can thank Miss Gilbert Potter for that. Seems she had enough common sense to write a letter first, though next time anything like this happens, I expect you both to wait by the entrance though I must impress upon both of you the seriousness of what you have done. I will be writing to your families tonight. And you will both receive a detention." Professor Mcgonagall said before both she and Dumbledore leave the room.
"Oh shit, oh no," Delilah groaned just before Snape left for he turned around at the doorway when he heard her, the two of them not noticing.
"What is it Lilah?" Ron asked concerned.
"My...my adoptive father, he's going to kill me," Delilah said wringing her hands nervously.
"My parents are probably going to kill me too," Ron said jokingly.
"No, I mean, he's...never mind," Delilah mumbled as she shook her head to herself.
"Hey, it'll be alright Lilah, we have months before school ends, who knows, by that time he'll most likely forget," Ron said trying to cheer her up.
"I suppose you're right," Delilah said trying to be optimistic but the fake smile on her face showed exactly how worried she still was.
"Why are you so worried? Why would he do anything to you for that?" Elena asked concerned.
"He didn't take too kindly whenever I got in trouble at school, I just freaked out," Delilah answered her sister as they all once again grew angry at the meaning behind her words.
"Miss Gilbert Potter, may I have a word?" Snape asked causing them both to jump not knowing that he had been there.
"I-I..uh...sure sir." Delilah stuttered in shock and he nodded at her before turning towards Ron as he said, "Mr Weasley you may leave." Delilah smiled at Ron's nervous expression telling him it was ok and he looked between them before smiling at her reassuringly and left.
They all watched as Snape walked towards her and brush a few strands out of the way of the side of her face and she hissed at the bump on her head. "How did you get hurt?"
"When we crashed into the whomping willow, I kind of hit my head on the windshield," Delilah explained.
"You should be more careful Little one," Severus said as he looked at her concerned. "Did you get hurt anywhere else?"
"No sir...I mean Sev," Delilah said changing her words when he raised his eyebrow at her.
"Good, now I wanted to talk to you because I heard what you said to Mr Weasley," Severus said as he looked down at her sternly. "I want you to promise to tell me the truth about what I will ask."
"I promise," Delilah said confused.
"I know your adoptive parents don't treat you well, we had established that last year but I need to know...do they hurt you?" As soon as he asked that question Delilah immediately flinched in shock, having not expected that, and they immediately saw his eyes change as he took in the action. He looked scarily angry before he immediately softened them when he saw how Delilah flinched at his gaze.
"How did he find out?" Stefan asked shocked.
"Severus is good at reading people and also because...he didn't exactly have the best childhood himself, he knows the signs a little too personally," Delilah explained and they all immediately understood as they looked at the man sympathetically, no wonder he had turned to the dark before, with a horrible home life and then being bullied at school, the only solace he had, the love of his life, leaving him and falling for his bully, literally everything pushed him towards that direction.
"I-I...h-how...wh-what?" Delilah stuttered not knowing what to say to that.
"I told you last year that I can try and get you of there, why did you say no when they were hurting you?" Snape asked confused and frustrated but most of all, angry at the thought of someone hurting the girl, who he had somehow come to care for.
"I can't leave my siblings alone Sev, believe me I've thought many times to just tell anyone the truth, but then either they won't believe me and I'd be in for a worse beating at home, or they would and then my adoptive parents would be taken away, leaving my siblings without parents. I can't do that to them because, despite how they treat me, they do care for them and I can't live with the guilt of taking someone else's parents away when I know how it feels to live without them, it won't be fair Sev." Delilah said as she wiped the tears from her eyes. "So it's fine, it's not all bad there, I have great friends, I can handle it. It's fine. It-It's fine," At this, her voice broke and in a complete uncharacteristic gesture, he pulled her into a hug and that broke the damn for her as she began crying in earnest.
"I can't watch this," Elena said turning away leaving through the door wiping her tears as she went. Stefan was about to go after her but Delilah stopped him and went after her himself. Jeremy didn't know what to do but he honestly couldn't hear her cry anymore, it was literally killing him so he followed after them leaving the brothers in the room.
