Edward drove me to school the next day, having called ahead of time to let Charlie know. Even though it had only been a day, the whole school already knew about Edward and I. I was getting glares from the girls and I had to stop Edward several times throughout the day from freaking out, having read some of the guys' minds. Other than that though, the day was pretty uneventful.

At least until after school. Edward drove me home and we saw Charlie's cruiser and one other car I didn't recognize in the driveway.

I heard Edward growl, more protective than I had ever heard him before.

"What's wrong?" I asked him.

"Complication," he tells me, his voice tight. "I have to go talk to Carlisle. Please be careful?"

"Yeah, of course," I was completely and utterly confused but I kissed Edward and got out of the car anyway. He quickly drove away as soon as he saw that I entered the house.

When I entered the house, I heard the football game playing in the living room and it was evident by the smell that there was pizza.

"Dad?"

"We're in here Bells!"

I walked into the living room to see Charlie with two other guys. One was in a wheelchair and the other looked to be about my age. I think I vaguely remember them from the reservation.

"Bella, this is Billy Black and his son, Jacob," Charlie introduced them.

Billy frowns for a second, his eyes locked on my necklace before putting a smile on his face. It doesn't quite reach his eyes.

"Hi, nice to meet you. Thanks for the car," I tell them.

"Bells there's pizza here and some leftovers from last night in the fridge. Jacob why don't you go and help her," Charlie suggested.

"I can do it myself dad," I told him.

"I know, but this will give you guys a chance to talk," Charlie winks. I give him a weird look.

"Um, okay?"

Jacob follows me to the kitchen, leaning on the counter while I get the leftovers from the fridge to heat.

"So you like the car?" He asked me.

"Yeah it's great. It'll be even better when I get to drive it again," I look down at my boot.

Jacob's cheeks turn pink. "Oh, sorry! I didn't think-"

"It's fine," I tell him. We were both silent as I put my food in the microwave.

"How old are you?" Jacob tilted his head.

"16. You?"

"I'm 15."

I raise a brow. "You don't look 15."

"Yeah, all of us guys on the res are pretty big for our ages." I nod.

"Would you ever date a guy younger than you?" Jacob wasn't really meeting my eyes as he asked.

Where the hell did that question come from? I felt uncomfortable, shifting my weight back and forth from my hands onto my foot.

"Uh...I prefer older guys," I internally giggled at my inside joke. If only he knew how much older.

I didn't have to hear Jacob's response because the microwave beeped, signaling that my food was done. I quickly removed it before heading back to the living room where I awkwardly sat while everyone else watched the game, trying to ignore Jacob's obvious staring.

Eventually, Charlie got up to grab another beer and that's when Billy decided to strike.

"You know the Cullens."

I looked up at him and he had a suspicious look on his face, bordering on angry.

"I do…" I had no idea where he was going with this.

"I recommend that you stay away from them, Bella. You don't know what they're capable of," he warns.

"I think I can take care of myself, Billy. And I am more than aware of what they are capable of," I gave him a knowing look.

He widened his eyes and was about to respond but Charlie came into the room and he couldn't continue the conversation.

I quickly excused myself and headed to my room, claiming I was tired and going to sleep.

I stayed in my room reading my Romeo and Juliet book until I heard Billy's car leaving. Two minutes later, Edward was in my room.

"Are you okay?" He checked me for injuries.

"I'm fine. Why? What's wrong? Tell me."

"Wolves."

"What?"

"The Quileute tribe down at La Push. They're shapeshifters. The gene skipped a generation so we thought they were all gone but all the young kids are showing signs," Edward paced me room looking stressed.

"We made a treaty with them the first time we came to Forks. That's why I had to go to Carlisle, to make sure it was still standing."

"Why do you guys need the treaty?"

"Vampires and Werewolves are sworn enemies. One bite from our venom and they can die. They view us as evil and themselves as the protectors of the people."

"I'm pretty sure you're less of a danger than them. Relax, Edward. I'm fine, Jacob didn't hurt me," I grab his arm to try to stop him from pacing, even though I don't have the physical strength to make him stop.

"I just worry about you," Edward traces my cheek with his thumb. "And Alice can't see you when you're around...them," he grits his teeth.

"She can't?" I sigh. "Well from now on, how about I make some excuse to come over to your house instead whenever they come over? To be honest they sort of made me uncomfortable."

"I can't ask you to not be around your father's friends because I'm worried about you."

"Ah, you're learning," I wrap my arms around his neck. "But in this case I want to. And giving you some peace of mind is a plus," I kiss him hard.
