As a fanfic author, sometimes you write scenes that don't quite end up fitting into your story the way you want and end up getting scrapped. Unfortunately for this story, this is one of those scenes. I went back and forth between wanting to make Bella pregnant or not like in the books and even wrote it out (alluding to the possibility earlier in the story with Lillian's baby) but ultimately decided against it to give a more open ended ending. But I didn't want to fully deprive you guys of the scene in case anyone was interested so as an outtake/alternate storyline, here is part of the story for if Bella has gotten pregnant on the honeymoon.
We stay kissing on the beach and eventually find ourselves back in the bedroom. The next morning when I woke up, there was a note on the nightstand from Edward.
My Love,
I had hoped to return before you woke up, but in case I do not, I leave you this note. I have gone out for a couple of hours to hunt but I will be back as quickly as I can. Look after my heart, I've left it with you.
Forever yours,
Edward
I went to the kitchen taking out the leftover chicken from the night before and eating it. About two bites in, something didn't feel right and I felt my stomach turn. I all but ran to the bathroom and proceeded to throw up in the toilet. I rested my head on the tub trying to calm my stomach down.
"Bella, love?" I heard Edward's voice as he opened the bathroom door. I quickly flushed the toilet, closing the lid.
"No, don't come in here, Edward. You don't want to see this," my voice was shaky from just having thrown up.
"In sickness and in health, remember," He kneels down next to me, pulling me to him. I slump into his cool body, taking deep breaths, letting his scent comfort me. He rubs circles around my back while running his other hand through my hair. Once I felt a little better, he helped me up, staying with me as I brushed my teeth. He helped me back to the kitchen and sat me down on a stool, handing me a glass of water.
"How are you feeling, love?" He looked worried and concerned.
"A little better. It must have just been the chicken I ate," I gave him a weak smile.
"Well I think we should get you back to Carlisle anyway, just to be sure," Edward said in a determined tone.
"I don't want to cut our honeymoon short just because I ate some bad chicken." I finished off the rest of the water, feeling infinitely better.
"We just have one more day anyway, love. Besides, your health is much more important to me," Edward moved my hair out of my face.
"I'm sorry. The burdens of being with a human," I grumbled.
"Don't say that, Bella. You could never be a burden. You've made me so happy," he kissed me on the cheek before grabbing me another glass of water.
"Here, you lost a lot of fluids. I'll go pack and book our flight. Just rest a bit before we leave."
"I can help," I start to stand up.
"I know you can, love. But it would make me feel so much better if you just took it easy for a little while," Edward gently pushed me back down onto the seat.
"Okay," I finally agreed.
Within an hour we were heading back home, taking the boat and the planes. Edward continuously asked me if I was okay, and honestly I was slightly nauseous but I felt much better than earlier in the morning. I even fell asleep on the plane, leaning against Edward.
When we got to the airport, the Cullens were waiting for us. Emmet drove Edward and I along with Rosalie while everyone else took Carlisle's.
"Bella, love? Carlisle has to go negotiate the treaty with the Quileute tribe and needs me to come with him. Do you think you'll be okay for a couple of hours without me?" Edward gave me a guilty look.
"Edward, I'll be fine. Really. Don't worry about me," I kissed his cheek.
"I always worry about you," Edward looked down at me, not saying anything for a second. "Maybe I could get Rosalie or Emmet to go-"
"No, Edward. Carlisle needs you. I'll be fine." We pulled up to their mansion and Edward helped me in while Emmet got all of our luggage.
"We'll have Carlisle look over you fully as soon as we get back. I love you."
"I love you too." I gave him a hug and he hesitantly left with Carlilse, Alice and Jasper, and Esme leaving Emmet and Rosalie to look after me.
I went to their kitchen to get another glass of water, still afraid to try eating anything. When I got back to the living room, Emmet and Rosalie were both sitting on the sofa.
"So, Bella," Emmet gave me a mischievous grin. "You must be hungry." I look at him confused.
"You know, because you and Edward must have been too...busy to do anything else," he wiggles his brows.
"Although," he continues "It looks like you've been eating well. Put on a little weight, Belly?"
"Emmet!" Rosalie gasped in horror, smacking his head.
I knew he didn't mean it in a mean way, Emmet was just oblivious like that. I wasn't usually the type of person to be easily offended about my appearance, but for some reason his words made my blood boil.
"Shut the hell up, Emmet!" I exploded at him, feeling tears in my eyes.
"Woah, Belly-bean! I was just kidding," Emmet put his hands up in surrender. "Are you on your period or something?" He laughed.
"No I am not on my per...iod," I stopped, my eyes widening at my sudden realization.
"Oh. My. God," I whispered. "I'm not on my period."
"Good for you?" Emmet looked completely confused. Rosalie furrowed her brows.
"No, you don't understand. I'm not on my period," I repeated.
"Cool?" Emmet looked at Rosalie who had quickly stood up and flew over to me. "I don't really know what's happening."
"How long?" Rosalie asked me, looking down at my stomach.
"Um…" I closed my eyes trying to remember but my entire body was so numb at the moment it was hard to think. "Two weeks."
"And are you sure it's his?" Rosalie looked skeptical.
"It has to be. Unless I'm like, the next virgin Mary. He was my first and only. I-we didn't think it was possible," my hands were shaking. Rosalie pulled me into a hug, sitting me down on the sofa. I was in so much shock that I didn't even have the energy to be surprised by her gesture.
"It's going to be okay," she tells me.
"Okay, can someone please explain what's going on?" Emmet looked back and forth between us.
"Oh, my god!" A high pitched squeal came crashing through the door. Alice was literally vibrating as she made her way over to us.
"Bella? Are you okay?" Edward rushed to me, taking me from Rosalie's arms and pulling me into his.
"Careful," Rosalie hissed, earning weird glances from the Cullens.
"Alice blocked you from me and insisted that we get back as quickly as possible," Edward explained.
"Um," I looked up at him, tears in my eyes. I had no idea how he was going to take the news and it scared the hell out of me, not to mention the dang hormones that I now had to deal with.
"Love?" Edward's eyes held worry as he tried to search my eyes for answers.
"Edward...I-we are, uh," I gulped. "Pregnant," I spit out.
Esme gasped, and Emmet said some choice words.
Edward froze, not breathing or moving a single muscle. In this moment, he truly looked like a statue.
I waved my hand in front of his face but I didn't get a response.
"Carlisle?" I called behind me. "Can vampires go into shock?"
"I suppose they could…" Carlisle started to walk closer, not looking completely sure of what to do.
I grabbed Edward's face, tracing his jaw with my thumb.
"Edward, love? Are you okay?"
Edward blinked a couple of times, seeming to come out of his trance. He still looked shocked as he turned his expression to me.
"You...We...Our...How," he sputtered.
"How do you even know it's his?" Jasper asked. Alice gasped, slapping his arm.
Edward growled at him, wrapping a protective arm around me as tears started to from in my eyes.
"How could you even think that?" I sobbed.
"Oh, dear," Esme put her hand on her chest.
"They're definitely his," Alice stomped, glaring at Jasper.
"Sorry. I had to ask, I mean we all thought it wasn't possible."
"Yeah Carlisle, how did our Eddie boy get baby Belly preggers?" Emmet asked.
"Wait. Hold on, before you answer that. Alice...they?" I raised my brow at her.
"Twins," Edward whispered. I turned to see him looking at my stomach with awe on his face.
"We're having twins," a slow smile spread across his face.
"You're not mad?" I asked.
"Of course not, love. I can't believe you would think I would be anything less than elated at the thought of having a child with you, let alone two. I never thought it could happen, that I could never give that to you. But…" Edward turns to Carlilse. "Is it safe? Is she safe?"
"Wait. Carlisle you still haven't told us how it's even possible," Rosalie pointed out.
"Well," Carlisle thinks for a moment. "Originally I thought that because Edward had been a virgin since his change that that part of him was still human, like how we still have our human blood in our systems when we are first changed. But Alice saw they were half vampire, half human, which means that there has to be venom in the child. This would mean that while female vampires cannot become pregnant because their bodies cannot physically change, male vampires still have the ability to impregnate humans," he concludes.
Everyone was silent as we all took in the new information.
"Oh, god," I suddenly realized. Everyone looked at me in concern. "Charlie. He's going to ground me for life if I come back as the next star of '16 and pregnant.'"
"That might not be a problem," Carlisle points out.
"What do you mean?" I ask him.
"NO!" Edward growled suddenly looking furious.
"I'm sorry, son," Carlisle told him.
"What? What's going on? Carlisle?" I asked. I had never seen Edward this angry before.
"I've heard rumors about a half-vampire, half-human child in South America somewhere. The vampire had impregnated the human and left her soon after. Half-vampire fetuses seem to grow at a much more accelerated rate, and only take around one month to grow before they're ready to come out. Only...they are much too strong for the fragile human body and there is a high chance of losing both the mother and the fetus before birth unless precautions are taken and so far there has been a hundred-percent fatality rate in mothers during childbirth. The hybrid child uses their own strength to break their way out of the mother," Carlisle grimly explains.
"We have to get them out now," Edward panics.
"No! Edward, it's our babies!" I wrap my arms around my stomach.
"I can't lose you. I won't lose you," his voice breaks.
"Maybe you won't," Carlisle intervenes. We both turn to look at him.
"I have a theory that if we were to deliver the babies early, via c-section, for example, then they wouldn't have the chance to break out of Bella's body. And if the birth is too much for her, then we can…" Carlisle pauses. "Turn her."
"But the treaty, Carlisle," Jasper reminds him.
"The treaty just says we can't bite a human, but it doesn't say anything about injecting them," Edward realizes. "But we can't. I won't doom her to this life. And it's just a theory."
"Well you don't really have any other choice," Rosalie tells him.
"Yes we do," Edward looks down at my stomach.
"No. I'm keeping the babies. Whether you want them or not." The determination is clear on my face.
Edward's eyes look pained. "Bella, love, of course I want them. But not at the expense of you."
"You heard Carlisle. I can do this," I grab Edward's hand, looking up at him.
Edward stared at me, looking right into my eyes. He looks down, closing his eyes before letting out a breath.
"We."
"What?" I ask him.
"We can do this," he gently caresses my stomach. He kisses my hair, pulling me to his chest. "I love you."
"I love you," I tell him, letting out the breath I was holding in relief and happiness.
"Alice, you're sure she'll make it?" Edward looked at her.
She nodded. "You'll have to turn her, but yeah. She'll make it," she gave me a smile.
"Are you sure this is what you want, love?" Edward looked at me, his voice so soft it was only meant for me.
"Yes," I said with so much certainty it left no room for argument.
