The Overlord of Warcraft

Chapter 4

Preparation

Leeroy feels very uncomfortable in having every citizen on Nazarick stop what they were doing to bow to him.

'Kinda hard being a humble paladin with everyone putting you on a pedestal.'.

For a moment he remembers Arthas, and how he let his inner demons take a hold of him.

Leeroy hopes he never becomes like Arthas, but now that this is reality, who's to say Frostmourne and the Lich King's crown didn't arrive in this world either?

Shaking his head Leeroy stops in his tracks and looks at one of the maids who were bowing to him.

"Hi erm… What is your name?". Leeroy asks the red-headed maid, trying not to get himself lost in her yellow eyes and olive skin. "I'm still not acquainted with everyone here.".

"Lupusregina Beta, Leeroy-sama." Lupusregina says to Leeroy bowing her head.

"Lupusregina… Lu… pus… are you a Worgen? I mean werewolf, are you a werewolf?".

"Yes, Leeroy-sama! I'm amazed, you didn't know me but in just a few seconds after we met you already guessed my true form. Truly you are worthy of being the 42º supreme being.". Lupusregina says looking at Leeroy's Judgement Crown with shiny eyes.

'Too close.'. The paladin thinks, thanking his judgment crown for hiding his blush. "Do you know where could I find Momonga?".

"He is in the conference room where the other 41 supreme beings used to discuss, Leeroy-sama.".

"Thank you Lupusregina.". The paladin says with genuine appreciation and a nod of his head.

"I live to serve the supreme beings.". Lupusregina responds before going back to her duties.

'Great Scotch, I wonder what will happen to this adoration if anyone finds that I'm human.'. The paladin thinks while remembering his discussion with Momonga.

Both players decided to not use the race change item Momonga had unless Leeroy's real race was discovered by the NPCs, they also decided that if the need to use said item ever comes, Leeroy would turn himself into one of the races of World of Warcraft, since they couldn't test the item, both players assumed that it could transform Leeroy into any race of both games, or only in the races available in YGGDRASIL, another thing to worry since there was a possibility of Leeroy losing all his levels once he becomes a creature of YGGDRASIL.

'Man, so many possibilities, reminds me of Vanilla, where they only tell you what you need to do, not where you need to do it, or how you need to do it, that was the magic, you didn't feel like the missions were just chores, you feel like they were giving you a reason to explore and discover the wonders of the world of Azeroth.'. Leeroy daydreams about his old experience and ends up hitting on something or someone, making it or them fall on the ground and the paladin turns back to reality. "*Ouch* Sorry.".

Looking at the ground where the third party had fallen, Leeroy recognizes the two blonde dark-skinned children in a second. Mare and Aura were probably the friendliest beings in Nazarick, but the paladin doubted they would be as sweet if they'd found out about his real race.

'They do make me wonder if in this New World we will find night elves and blood elves.'. Leeroy thinks while extending his hands so both of them can get on their feet. "Sorry, I wasn't looking where I was going.".

"No, no Leeroy-sama, we should be more careful." Says Aura apologizing as if her being wrong was a matter of fact, with Mare nodding his head in concordance.

'By the Holy Light, the endless, shimmering sea of energy situated outside the barriers of reality and one of the two most fundamental forces in Warcraft, please give me strength so I can stand this trial of being on a pedestal even though it's not my marriage.'.

"Aura, Mare, tell me what would happen if I failed?" Asked the paladin on his knees, looking at the two children in the eyes.

"Haha you are a supreme being Leeroy-sama, there is no way for you to fail.".

"Yes, the Supreme Beings are above that." Says Mare with a little confidence.

"Are we now… Mare, ask me a question about Bukubukuchagama, any question.". Leeroy says with politeness.

Mare and Aura look at each other, probably trying to understand the Paladin's reasons, Leeroy wanted to prove a point, but these two are children, he couldn't use the direct approach with them, he would have to make them see and experience themselves for them to accept the reality of the world.

"Well… What is Bukubukuchagama-sama's favorite color?".

"Green." Leeroy answers without hesitation, he hadn't met Bububukuchagama and knew nothing about her, so it would be easier for him to guess something wrong about her and prove to them that he wasn't above and beyond failure, and he smiles at the shock both elves show in their faces, knowing that he managed to accomplish his goal.

"That's… THAT'S AMAZING LEEROY-SAMA.". Aura screams while jumping, a big smile on her face, Mare at her side nodding in concordance quickly with his head, both kids not realizing the poker face behind the paladin's mask.

"You'd never met Bukubukuchagama-sama and guessed her favorite color, you are truly above the norm, yes you are.". Mare says smiling while tightening his grip on his staff.

'OH, COME ON.'. Leeroy screams inside his head and gives himself a facepalm… with his [Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros] mace. 'Feminism, I blame feminism, before it came, all girls' favorite color was pink, call me a bigot, I don't care.'.

Deciding that enough was enough, Leeroy gives the elves his goodbye and compliments and marches towards his original objective, completely ignoring the fact that his current situation was his own fault due to not having taken into consideration the possibility that there was a chance he could guess it right.

Conference Room - Nazarick

Momonga felt a slight shiver for some reason, how and why he doesn't know, he would ask himself how could it be since he doesn't have a nervous system but since coming to this world and being able to speak without vocal cords, he stopped caring.

Right now, the overlord was trying to figure out how his magic mirror works, on YGGDRASIL all he needed to do was click a button, but this is the reality now. Behind Momonga the butler Sebas watches his master, not moving a single muscle except his eyes when he blinks and his chest when he breaths.

The two of them look at the door and see Leeroy entering the room, Momonga would've been annoyed for someone to enter without knocking but after having the maids not let him do anything simple such as opening a door, so he allowed the paladin this small pleasure. If he knocked Sebas would've opened it.

"Sorry for not knocking.". Leeroy says giving an exaggerated sigh. "I had a run-in with Aura and Mare, it was… a new experience.".

Momonga notices how Leeroy looked at Sebas before finishing his phrase, he didn't blame the paladin, those two could be tiresome since kids have infinite stamina and unlike him, Leeroy was still in a human body, although the undead was sure his fatigue was in his head, not his body.

"It's okay Leeroy, how are you feeling?".

"Normal, for now… did… did you feel a shiver a few minutes ago?" Leeroy asks scratching his left arm trying not to sound silly.

"Actually, I did.". Momonga says crossing his fingers. "Why do you think we felt it?".

"I don't know, global warming?".

"Fufufu. Yeah, we had to deal with this in the future, they developed a skin lotion that stops you from getting burned by the sun and clothes that protect you against ultraviolet rays, but since greed never stops the lotion also gave you skin cancer that; surprise, surprise, had the best treatment offered by the same company that makes it, and the clothes, well, they dissolve when in contact with liquid so you are forced to buy a new one if you forget to dry clean or if it rains.".

Normally they would refrain to talk about the real world in front of the NPC, but Leeroy had the idea to tell them that they can travel universes, a power exclusive to players, and that real life was the worst universe of all for it obliges you to live like a peasant, work behind a desk for 40 years and you don't have magic powers. The NPCs were shocked to hear it and unfortunately, they asked why would Leeroy and Momonga would go to such a horrible place, forcing the skeleton to invent a story about how that horrible world is the only place that could maintain the magic of YGGDRASIL alive, it was followed by a hundred questions that made both players stay up for hours trying to explain, it was hard, but the con is that they now could speak about real life all the time… until their first talk where they had to invent a bullshit story about time travel because Leeroy asked Momonga about the future.

"Let me guess, the rain is always acid.". Leeroy asks with a dried chuckle and Momonga only nods. "*Sigh* each day I wonder if I should try to get home, then I remember how the future turns out and really don't want to… and because I would have to find a job, even though I don't need one.".

"Gold farming isn't a job Leeroy.". Momonga says with a bored tone, he remembers how the prices for items in YGGSRADIL skyrocketed because of gold farmers like Leeroy and how it took him longer to buy the items he wanted.

"But it paid the bills.".

"Why were you afraid of getting a job?".

"Sexual harassment. Don't know in the future, but in 2023 if you look someone wrong it's enough for you to get 2 to 4 years without a trial or evidence.".

Momonga just pinches the bridge of the bone where his nose was supposed to be in response to Leeroy's comment, the undead learned recently that the paladin was paranoic when interacting with other people, according to him in his time, social media, and the presidential election had succeeded in making people more dumb than normal to the point families and friendships were destroyed beyond repair because of it.

"Can we change the subject? I really don't want to talk about my… private finances security method".

"Say gold farming, using a fancy name doesn't make it look or sound better.".

The paladin and undead held each other gazes for a few seconds before bursting out laughing. Momonga was really enjoying Leeroy's company, it reminded him of his old friends and the good times he spent with them in YGGDRASIL.

Leeroy could never replace the others, but his presence was really giving Momonga a small amount of happiness.

"Hey, Momonga. I'd wanted to talk about something. The future. I've been planning something, but only you can execute it.". Leeroy says fixing his position on the chair he was sitting on. "It's about war, we need to be prepared.".

"Why?".

"We are in a strange world, on Azeroth the first war started after the orcs emerge from the portal and started to ravish the human's lands. Well, now we… are the orcs.". Leeroy says crossing his arms.

"How many wars there were in Azeroth?". Momonga asks not liking the possible answer.

"Four. Although we don't count the last one since it was subverted to become only a poor introduction to a badly done expansion that retconned history and spit on the players' faces.". Leeroy says with an edge in his voice.

"Okay then, tell me, how should we prepare for war?".

"The most important thing is gold, it's what win wars, not soldier, not weapons.". Leeroy says extending his arm stopping Momonga from interrupting. "Let me explain. Let's suppose in this New World level 100 is the norm, how our army will deal with another with the same strength? The answer is; we'll go toe to toe with them, but after every fight, our soldier will need food and medicine, and how do we afford it?".

"Gold.".

"Exactly, now let's suppose the norm is level 1, in this case, our army will just stomp the rest without a problem, that will leave us with a devastated land and people with no houses, jobs, and resources, how will we afford to fix everything when our crusade is over?".

"Gold.".

"Right again, now let's go to the worst-case scenario, level 100 is basically level 1 compared to the rest of this world. This means we can't fight anyone and someone will have to fight for us, and since we are invaders the only ones who will do so are sellswords, and since their defeat means our death, we will obviously need to hire the best ones, how do we afford it?".

"With gold.".

"Ooooooh! Leeroy-sama indeed is a warlord". Sebas says while scratching his beard, making his presence noticed by the two players. "How did you learn so much about warfare Leeroy-sama?".

"Remember the four wars I mentioned?... Let's just say I study them and learn a lot.". Leeroy says with a humorous voice hoping the butler doesn't understand that by studying he meant; 'I played the three games plus the MMORPG along with the Call of Duty series and became a General'.

"Very well.". Momonga says. "And what would you need from me, Leeroy?".

"Scouts, I need you to order scouts to search the area and to find any gold, maybe a silver, mine so we can't start to accumulate riches to finance a war campaign once we are ready.".

"Very well, once all current endeavors are solved, I will order Aura to gather a scouting party and search for any gold mine she can find, anything else?".

"Yes, land, since we don't know if the land Nazarick currently stands on is free for grabs or owned I suggest we buy it in each case with the gold so we can start constructing around it, but that can be put on hold since we won't need it until the war starts.".

"Very well.".

Getting off his chair Leeroy gives Momonga a respectful bow and leaves the skeleton and the butler alone.

"Leeroy-sama is already showing his capabilities, I'm impressed.". Sebas says looking at his master.

Momonga at first was curious as to why the NPCs in Nazarick were so quick to accept and respect the paladin, Leeroy then said that in World of Warcraft humans had a racial skill called Diplomacy that gives them a reputation increase of 10%, doing something here and there, plus talking and being friendly to the NPCs was bound to make them start to truly respect him.

"Yes.". Momonga says thinking about what the paladin says. "He reminds me of Touch Me in some way… sorry Sebas, I didn't want to say it like that.".

"No, no, Momonga-sama, you are right, he does remind me of Touch Me-sama, I also can see some resemblance between him and my creator, and not just because he is a paladin.". Sebas says looking nostalgic as if Leeroy were a mirror reflecting the past. "Did Leeroy-sama ever tell you what race he belongs to?".

"He is a Draenei.". Momonga answers quickly, feeling a little sad for disappointing the butler NPC who was probably hoping for Leeroy to be from the same race as Touch-Me.

After a long discussion, Momonga and Leeroy decided that if Nazarick finds out that he is human they would use the race change item Momonga has and change him to a Draenei, the reason for him to become a World of Warcraft race instead of a YGGDRASIL one was that there was the risk of him losing his levels so they would only do it if the item couldn't turn him into a creature from World of Warcraft, and the reason they chose a Draenei was that dwarves, like humans, may not be accepted by the beings in Nazarick, blood elf was also out of the question since if he was one it would raise suspicion with Aura and Mare, Tauren was also out of the question since it would be really inconvenient due to their size.

Momonga somewhat was jealous of Leeroy, World of Warcraft sounds like it was one of the greatest games to ever exist, and the paladin was also jealous of the overlord since he also thought that YGGDRASIL sounded like one of the greatest games ever.

'I wonder how could our days have been had I been born earlier or him later.'. Thinks Momonga wondering about the difference each one would have in the life of the other.

Like him, Leeroy was the last one of his group to stay behind, perhaps they would be less solitary in their final days had they met earlier.

Turning back to the mirror Momonga turns back to his work.

"Sebas, call Aura, I want a report on how things are going on her end, once they are finished, I will instruct her on how to proceed with Leeroy's plan.".

"Yes, Momonga-sama.".

The butler leaves, leaving Momonga alone with his thoughts while working on the mirror, wondering what lies ahead.

RE-Estize Kingdom – Royal Palace

Feeling a cold breeze in his spine Climb closes the window of princess Renner's room.

The princess is having tea with her friend Lakyus, the adamantite-ranked adventurer and leader of the group called Blue Roses.

"Are you okay Climb?" The princess asks with a sweet voice. "You close the window and is so hot… don't tell me, are you sick? Is it a cold?".

"No no princess.", Climb says shaking his hands in front of princess Renner in an attempt to hide his blush. "I just felt some cold air and thought it was because of the open window.".

"You also felt it?". Lakyus asks with concern in her eyes. "I… I thought it was just in my head, I mean, a cold air on such a hot day.".

Climb only nods his head.

The princess, feeling left out, pouts her cheeks at the two.

"Hey, don't let me out, explain what is it?".

"I don't know princess." Climb says with honesty. "It's like a warning, as if, as if…".

"Something dangerous is on the horizon.". Lakyus finishes looking at out of the window with a serious face. "Something tells me hard times will come.".

With a loud gulp Climb only nods at the adventurer before looking out of the window as well.

RE-Estize kingdom – Plains

Gazef Stronoff, warrior captain of the guards and the strongest man of the realm was riding the country.

In the last few days reports of villages being sacked and burned flooded the royal palace.

The king, good man as he is, ordered the warrior captain to find the responsible and brings them to justice.

Feeling a little tense, the captain gestures with his hand for all his men to stop in their tracks.

"What is it captain Stronoff?". His Lieutenant asks.

"Nothing, I just felt like something wasn't right.". Gazeff says looking around him. "Tell the man we will do a brief pause to rest. I'll go take a look around.".

"Yes sir!".

Getting off his horse Gazef walks around, wondering why he felt that tense with nothing around.

The warrior captain doesn't feel like he is going mad but the thought makes him sigh and hope he is right.

After a few minutes and feeling that his worries were nothing important he goes back to his horse and orders his men to do the same.

After everything is ready he goes back with his mission to find the responsible for hurting the innocent citizens of the kingdom.

RE-Estize Kingdom – Abandoned Cave

"999.". Brain Unglaus says swinging his katana. "1000.".

Brain stops his training once a cold shiver crosses his spine, he is glad that it happened after his training was over since he would have to start over otherwise.

Brain thinks for a few seconds about the strange feeling but dismisses it immediately. Wasting time thinking about such things wouldn't help him defeat Gazef so he starts another session of swings, this time a horizontal cut.

"1… 2… 3…".

Holy Kingdom – Royal Palace

A whisper was heard and Remedios Custodio didn't waste time in drawing her sword and turning around, looking for the source.

"Remedios, what's wrong?" Asked her sister Kelart Custodio in worry about her sister's sudden movement.

"Nothing sister.". Remedios says, putting her sword back on the sheath.

"Are you sure?". Calca Bessarez, the Holy Queen asks. "It's not like you to act harsh and do something so imprudent.".

"Actually, it is.". Kelart says, chuckling soon followed by the queen making the leader of the paladin order blush.

"I felt something dark… evil.". Remedios says closing her eyes trying to maintain her calm. "Turns out it was just paranoia.".

"You the leader of the paladins.". Calca says with a calm tone while drinking her tea. "If you spend one day without paranoia then you aren't doing your job right.".

"She is right sister, sit down and relax, you are worrying too much.".

"Very well.". Remedios says taking a sit. "Where was I?".

"You were talking about this new squire Neia Baraja, isn't she the daughter of your subordinate Pabel?".

"Ah yes…".

Re-Estize Kingdom – Roads

Clementine couldn't stop the dumb smile on her face, it was so easy that she felt stupid for not having done it a long time ago.

Looking at her trophy was satisfying, the Helm of Domination was an item that could control the undead, according to the legends and teachings of her country one day a great evil would surface in the world and would reclaim it along with another item possessed by the Theocracy, and when both objects were reunited with their master chaos and mayhem would reign.

"Children's stories, all of it.". Clementine says to no one.

To her it was ridiculous, the proof was in E-Rantel, there lived someone with the talent to use any magical item. If such evil exists and would return why would 'destiny' allow someone to have such a gift or not make him the one destined to have them? To Clementine, this was proof destiny wasn't real.

When she heard rumors about a boy who could use any magic object that exist Clementine didn't think twice and started planning on how to make both objects fall into his hands, unfortunately, she could only steal one of them if she didn't want to get caught, her options were the Crown and the Sword, the sword would allow the user awaken the undead while the crown would allow them to control the undead, Clementine stole the crown because there were plenty of undead in the Katze Plains that she could use so the sword wasn't needed yet, but she would go back for it when the army she would raise was strong enough.

"Soon everything will be just right.". Clementine says with a smile looking at the crown.

Meanwhile – Elsewhere

"Boring.". Says the man sitting, playing cards with himself.

"I know, you say this every day, all day." Says the man refusing to take his eyes off the object they both are supposed to guard, although only he appears to be doing his job right.

"Why do you even bother, the sword is locked in this piece of ice, 600 years ago it was locked in this piece of ice, 600 years from now on it will still be locked in ice.".

"And we'll still be keeping it under guard, the six great gods warned us that; one day, the sword would find its wielder, and when it does death will follow them wherever they go.".

"For this sword is death itself, and death needs a master, henceforth there must always be a master of death, there must always be a Lich King… dun dun dun yeah I've heard the story, same as you, same as everyone in the country." Says the man still not carrying about his duty.

"Then you should stop lacking in your job and watch Frostmourne, same as I'm doing."

"No, I'm cool, you won't see me looking at this sword unless the runes glow and the ice melt like the six great gods foretold.".

"Go fetch the cardinals." The serious guard says with an edge in his voice.

"What.".

"GO FETCH THE CARDINALS.".

"Why?".

"Because the runes are glowing and the ice is melting, like the six great gods foretold, now do your job right for once, AND GO FETCH THE CARDINALS.".

After seeing the sword doing exactly what his serious comrade said the lazy guard finally breaks out of his shock, with his shaggy legs he runs the fastest he ever did to fetch the cardinals.

Alone with the sword, the serious guard makes a gesture with his hands and makes a swift prayer.

"May the gods watch over and protect us."

Author's note: All right another chapter, yes you read this right the Lich king is coming and we already have the contestants to the mantle: Momonga, Leeroy, Climb, Lakyus, Gazef, Brain, and Remedios, which one will become the leader of the scourge and reclaim Frostmourne? Only time will tell.

Thank you for reading, sorry for the chapters getting shorter but sometimes it feels that if you make it too long people might think it's just dragging instead of moving ahead.
