Last chapter! Sort of. I'll post a bonus chapter next week that has a lemon in it. It'll be titled "The Last Piece of the Pie". I wanted to keep this story Teen rated so the lemon will be posted separately. Enjoy the conclusion. And please review if you liked it.

Chapter 5

One morning, Winry returned to the hospital. She had stopped at a bakery on the way and bought a few pastries to share with Edward. His recovery was coming along quite nicely. She figured he could use a treat.

Winry walked into his room with a smile on her face. "Good morning!"

She saw his downcast face and her smile faded. "Ed, what's wrong? Are you in pain?"

Winry sat on his bed in front of him.

Edward shook his head. "No. It just doesn't make any sense."

Winry was confused. "What doesn't make sense?"

Edward began "I remember the accident. Well, I remember something I saw after the accident."

He rubbed the back of his head. "I saw my mom," he breathed out.

Edward shook his head. "I don't know if it was a dream or something else. Maybe it was my brain replaying images. I don't know but I saw her."

"Or maybe there is an afterlife," Winry took his hand. "I've always wanted to believe that they're here with us, watching us."

"I don't know Win…." Edward shook his head in denial.

"It's okay. I think it's sweet that you thought of her. She's obviously very important to you. Whether it was a dream or something else, we'll never know."

"I saw you too! You were in a field back home, and I knew I had to get back to you," Edward said.

Winry smiled. This man truly loved her. She was as important as his mother that he saw both of them while he was unconscious.

"And I'm glad you did. Oh, I brought you something," Winry opened the white paper bag and brought out two pastries. "Take your pick. Cherry or apple?"

"Apple of course!" Edward grabbed the pastry and started eating it aggressively. The atmosphere in the room lightened up. "It's so good. Thanks Winry."

"Sure thing. Figured you could use a reward. Your physical therapy seems to be going well," Winry said.

"Yeah, it's a pain in the ass though," Edward took another bite. Winry shook her head. Her fiancé was a pain in the ass.

Eight days later after some intensive physical therapy, Edward was discharged from the hospital. Winry reassured the doctor that she would make sure he continued his physical therapy after discharge. Edward groaned at her. He was an adult!

Their goal was to get back to Risembool so that WInry could make him a new leg. Being on the spare for an extended period of time wasn't good for his hip and thigh. But Winry also didn't want Edward to travel too soon so they would stay in Creta for another week before heading home.

The nurse insisted that Edward use a wheelchair on the way down to the exit of the hospital. He declined but the nurse said it was policy.

"I can walk just fine."

Winry raised an eyebrow. "Edward Elric, get in the wheelchair. Stop making her job harder than it should be. You should be grateful for all they've done for you."

Edward groaned. He was grateful for all the care he received. He just didn't like being weak. "Fine." He reluctantly sat in the wheelchair and was rolled to the exit. At least he was out of that damn blue dress that they called a gown.

James and Sophie were waiting in the car at the hospital exit. The nurse stopped the wheelchair, and Edward thanked the nurse for her help. Then he got in the back of the car and Winry sat in the back with him. Edward was so relieved to be out of there. To be finally be able to get out again rather than being confined to the same building.

They got back to the house and Edward went to his room, which Winry had been using. He hadn't been gone long but the room smelled like her now. She had been sleeping in his bed. Her clothes hanging up in the closet.

Winry helped Edward get settled in his room until they were notified of dinner being ready. They made their way to the dining room, and saw dinner waiting for them. Edward drooled. 'A steak dinner!'

They all sat at the table and Edward was still drooling over his plate and then he realized something. He looked around and noticed everyone had started cutting their steaks into pieces. He looked down at his steak pitifully. His left arm was still in a sling and would be for weeks. He finally swallowed his pride. "Ummm… Can someone cut this up for me?"

They all looked at him quizzically and then realized that Edward couldn't use a knife and fork to cut up his steak. James felt terrible since it was his idea to do steaks. "Oh Ed, I'm sorry."

Winry went to grab Edward's utensils. "Here let me help."

James stopped her. "No let me. Winry, you're our guest."

Edward watched as James cut up his food. He felt like he was kid again after losing his arm. And he hated it. It was embarrassing. They ate dinner after that, and Edward cheered up after eating some. The steak was really delicious.

That night Edward and Winry went to get ready for bed. They had decided to sleep in the same bed since they were engaged. And Winry said "It's good practice for when we're married."

"Right," Edward agreed thinking it was logical to practice. When they had planned this trip, Edward had been hoping to share a bed with her anyways. But it was before he had broken his arm. So no hope of getting any further physically into their relationship at this point. He looked at the bed. "So, which side do you want?"

Winry put a finger on her chin. She hadn't thought about which side of the bed she wanted but she had been sleeping more on the left side of the bed. So she sat on the left side. "I'll take this side."

"Okay then. I'll be over here." He sat on his side of the bed and started unbuttoning his shirt. He could hear Winry behind him getting her nightgown out of the drawer and then raising her shirt up. He glanced quickly over his shoulder and saw her unsnapping her bra facing away from him. He swiftly turned his head away. His cheeks flushed.

Edward unbuttoned his pants and slid them down. Winry peaked behind her to his back. She had seen him without a shirt and pants on before but it was different now. There was attraction, emotions, and hormones involved now. She focused back on the task of putting on her night gown.

Edward turned on the bedside lamp because he liked to read before bed and Winry turned off the overhead light. She got into bed next to her fiancée. Edward started reading his book and she read her novel. They were both nervous sleeping together even though they had done this before as children.

After reading for a while, Winry put her novel down and turned off the lamp and Edward did the same. They got under the covers. "Good night Ed."

"Night Winry."

Edward turned over on his right side facing away from her. She did the same facing away from him. Then Edward said "Winry?"

"Hmm?"

"I love you."

Winry's face started to feel warm. "I… I love you too." She turned over to face him. "Hey Edward."

Edward turned on his back. "What is it?" Winry crashed onto his lips. Edward's eyes enlarged but he soon relaxed. She opened her mouth and grazed his lips with her tongue asking for entry, and he obliged. Their mouths opened and closed against each other. Their tongues meeting and exploring each other. They calmed down and nuzzled their noses and cheeks together.

Winry sighed "When you're better, we can keep going."

"Yeah," Edward said a little dazed. "Something to look forward to."

Their last few days in Creta were spent with Edward doing physical therapy under Winry's supervision. But they also managed to have some fun together. He took her to a movie and a casual dinner at a café. He would save the expensive place for when he could cut up his own food. But at the café, he ordered a pasta dish that didn't require assistance to eat. Winry was glad that they could enjoy themselves a little bit before heading home.

A few months after returning to Risembool, it was Edward and Winry's wedding day. People were surprised by the rush in the wedding plans, and some assumed that maybe Winry was expecting. But when the bold ones asked why they wanted a quick wedding, Edward and Winry explained that Edward's car accident made them realize that life was short and there was no point in waiting.

Edward was in his suit waiting at the outside altar behind the local inn. Alphonse was next to him and Roy Mustang was next Alphonse. Paninya signaled that they were ready to walk down the aisle and that's when the violinist started playing. Riza and Paninya walked down the aisle and then Winry appeared at the door in a white dress with a bouquet of red and white roses. Alphonse awed at Winry "Isn't she beautiful?"

Edward breathed. He didn't realize he had stopped breathing. "Yeah, she is."

Winry met Edward at the altar and they held each other's hands. The pastor had them say their vows to each other, and told Edward that he could kiss his bride. He moved the veil and kissed his new wife, and everyone applauded them. They turned to their audience and walked down the aisle into the inn followed by their wedding party.

Once they were inside, Winry told Edward "Oh my god, we did it. We're married!" She hugged him tightly.

Shortly afterwards, dinner was served. Winry and Edward made their way around to greet their guests. They saw James and Sophie there. Edward showed them his new leg that Winry had made. And they were happy to host Edward during his next research trip after their honeymoon.

The bride and groom were then called upon to do their first dance together. Edward took her waist and her hand and they swayed with the music. Edward told Winry "I can't wait to get that dress off of you."

Winry furrowed her brow and hit him playfully in the chest. "Edward!"

"What? At least we don't have to sneak around anymore. It'll be expected that we sleep together."

Winry blushed as she remembered those nights they would sneak into one another's rooms since their return. They would be tangled in the sheets, his hand in her hair, and the smell of sweat and perfume. And now there wouldn't have to be any sneaking around.

A new song started and other people danced with them. After a few songs, Edward and Winry went to the bar to get a few drinks. They met Roy Mustang up there who had just ordered his whiskey. "Mrs. Elric, you look lovely this evening."

Winry smiled "Thank you Mr. Mustang for coming and being a part of our wedding."

"It was my pleasure. I was surprised Edward asked me."

Edward rolled his eyes "Winry insisted since she made Ms. Hawkeye a bride's maid."

Winry smacked Edward on the shoulder. "Don't be rude on our wedding day."

Edward yelped in pain. Then Edward pulled an envelope from his pocket. "Here. This is for you." He handed it to Roy. Roy opened it and saw notes on alchemy in the west. "It's a preview of my research. We're spending our honeymoon in Creta, and afterwards I'll be staying to finish my research. Sorry it wasn't completed on time but well, you know what happened."

"Yes, it was an unfortunate accident but this looks promising. Don't worry, you won't be losing your grants on your research. And I have something for you. For both of you actually." Roy pulled out an envelope and gave it to Edward, who opened it.

"Colonel! This is too much!" Edward and Winry's eyes enlarged as they saw a large amount of cash in the envelope.

"It's mine to give to whom I please. So enjoy your honeymoon. And it's General now."

Winry was so thrilled that she went and hugged Roy who was surprised by her reaction. "Thank you so much Mr. Mustang!"

Roy patted her back and eased into the hug. "You're welcome."

Edward shook Roy's hand and soon after Edward and Winry left the party. And the next day they were on their way to Creta for their honeymoon, where they had rented a cabin by a lake.
