Enjoy lovebugs ;)
"Ok, Iris since you and I are responsible for dinner tonight I do have a question for you?" Sam announced as he and Iris walked up and down the aisles of the grocery store and grabbed what they needed.
"Ok, I have an answer for you," Iris replied back.
"How would you feel if I asked your mother to marry you, that way we can be together forever and ever?"
"Hmm, I like it, does this mean mommy and you will have a big wedding like in the princess movies?" Iris asked as her eyes grew brighter.
"Yep, but your mom has to say yes,"
"She's gonna say yes, you two love each other, and make gross kissy faces at each other all the time," revealed Iris.
"Well, then I am going to ask her tonight, but it has to stay between us, promise me you won't tell mommy," Sam insisted as he placed out his pinky finger. Iris gripped her pinky with his and nodded her head to prove that she wouldn't say a word.
Mercedes had just gotten off her shift from the hospital and while she was thankful to be back, she quickly fell back into the routine of working herself to the bone. Her feet were killing her, and she was tired, she wanted nothing more than to have dinner, tuck in her daughter and cuddle with Sam as she drifted off to sleep. When she got out of her car she walked into her home and the first thing she noticed was the dim lighting and the numerous candles lit up everywhere.
"Sam, Iris!" Mercedes shouted as she placed her keys and purse down.
"Yes," Iris giggled as she seemingly came out of nowhere and was in front of her mom.
"Mmm, Iris what is going on," Mercedes requested as her daughter took her hand and led them further into the house.
"It's a surprise mommy," Iris answered as she dropped her mother off in the living room where she found a gold envelope on the coffee table. Mercedes walked over to it and tore open the envelope and read the contents of the letter.
Mercedes, surprise.
I have laid out the perfect outfit for you in the bedroom, and then once it is on I need you to meet me out in the backyard. I love you.
Sam...
"Iris can you tell mommy what is going on?" Mercedes giggled because she knew her daughter could not hold a secret.
"Nope, you have to do what the note says," Iris answered as she skipped off. Mercedes squinted her eyes but nonetheless, she did what the note said and headed to her bedroom where she found a little black dress with long sleeves, bedazzled accents, and a pair of black heels. She took a quick shower and placed the items before heading out to the backyard.
When she made it out to the backyard Sam had managed to transform it into something perfect. There was a candlelit and rose-petal pathway that led to Sam and there he was in a suit with a fresh haircut looking as handsome as ever.
"What is all of this?" Mercedes giggled as she made her way over to him, "Sam it's beautiful out here."
"Not as beautiful as you, Iris helped me set the whole thing up," Sam replied as she made it to him and he held her hands. Before she could respond, Get You by Daniel Caesar, ft. Kali Uchis started playing from the backyard speakers.
Mercedes laughed, "Did she plan that too?"
"Actually she did, she wanted to be a big help for this moment."
"What moment, are you talking about Sam Evans."
"Mercedes Jones, you are the most intelligent, caring, sweet, thoughtful, and sexiest woman that I have ever met in my whole entire life. Your smile makes me smile, your laughs make me laugh. All I want to do is wake up next to you and go to sleep next to you, I want to expand our family, and give Iris siblings. I want nothing more than to spend the rest of my life with you. Those three months without you showed me that you are the best thing I have ever encountered in life, and I don't want any other woman because you are it for me. I love how you love me, and Iris, I love how you let me love me Iris, and build my relationship with her." Sam explained lovingly, as he wiped away a stray happy tear from Mercedes's face. He backed away and got down on one knee and pulled out a small red velvet box and opened it. The ring was a trillion-cut rock, with small silver stones surrounding it, with a light tint of perry winkle blue for the band.
"S-Sam it's beautiful," Mercedes gasped.
"Iris, Santana, Jane, and Quinn helped me pick it out for you," He answered proudly.
"I don't know what to say," Mercedes cried.
"Hopefully a yes."
"Yes, thousand times yes!" Mercedes cheered happily. Sam placed the ring on her proper finger, and then stood up and pulled her in for a soul-searing kiss. When he let go, Iris rushed outside with him.
"Mommy, did you say yes?" Iris questioned brightly.
"I did baby, mommy and daddy are getting married,"
"YAY, NOW WE CAN PLAN FOR THE WEDDING!"
You have been cordially invited to the wedding ceremony of
Mercedes Nina Jones & Samuel Dwight Evans
Gather at the Evans Farm at promptly 4:30
Something Old
Mercedes was in the master suite of the Evans home getting dressed with all her friends and family at her side. Iris was getting her hair curled to the nines, and she was more than excited because she had begged her mother to let her curl her hair. Her bridesmaids, Quinn, Brittany, Santana, and Jane were all in their dresses. The colors had been decided on emerald green and gold, so all of the girls got to pick out their own different styles of dresses but they had to match the color. As they were all getting their makeup done Mercedes stared at the beautiful scene in front of her. She never thought something like this would happen to her but she was glad it did.
"Hey, sweet face, in honor of the long-standing tradition I have to give you something old," Mary announced as she came by Mercedes's side, "This is the golden pendant that Sam's grandmother wore for her wedding, and she made Sam promise that when the time came his wife would have it. So this my dear is for you." Mary stood behind Mercedes as she carefully pushed her hair to the side and clasped it together.
"Awe Mary, it's beautiful thank you so so much." Mercedes cheerfully acknowledged.
"No problem dear, now you just need something new, borrowed, and blue," Mary answered. There was a knock at the door followed by one Artie peeking his head in with his hands on his eyes.
"Are you ladies decent?" He questioned.
Iris started laughing, "Uncle Artie, you can't be in here."
"I know that, but one Sam Evans insisted I give his bride-to-be her new gift," Artie explained.
"C'mon Artie," Mercedes said. Artie removed his hands and came in dressed in his back tux with emerald green accents. He walked over to Mercedes and made a show of landing on his knee and presenting the box to Mercedes.
Something New
Mercedes gracefully took the box from his hands and opened it. It was a pretty diamond ring, with a green-centered diamond and thousands of others surrounding it. Mercedes placed the ring on her opposite hand and admired the beauty. Her man sure knew how to pick out jewelry for her.
"I can't believe that you are getting married Merce," Santana sighed as she walked over to her friend.
"I know, I never would have thought I would get married. Hell ever," Mercedes answered.
"But you are, you have the perfect man who will be at the end of the aisle waiting for you, and then you two will dance off into the sunset," Quinn added.
"And live happily ever after," Iris and Polly said at the exact same time causing all of the women to laugh.
"That's right babies, happily ever after," Mary sighed, "I never thought Sam would ever find love, he just buried himself in his work, oh but when Mercedes came along I saw a happy change in my son thank you for that Mercedes."
Jane noticed Mercedes's lifting her head up, and knew that the woman was going to cry, "Ok, ok no tears missy until you are finally married, now hurry up and get dressed, because we have come up with the last two things. Somethin' Borrowed, and then blue."
Something Borrowed
Mercedes had decided on a non-traditional green and gold trumpet dress. She knew she first saw that she had to have it, and though some of the ladies tried to convince her to at least look at the other dresses they all knew it was a lost cause. Mercedes had fallen in love with a dress, and she had to have it, she bought it off the rack and it was the first thing that was completed on the long list of wedding festivities.
Once the dress was fully zipped on Mercedes stepped out of the bathroom and looked at her bridal party.
"Mercedes, you look stunning," Quinn gasped as she gazed at her friend.
"You are so pretty in this, you picked a great dress," Jane added.
"Sam won't know what hit him," Santana replied.
"You look like a princess mommy," Iris said giddily as she appeared.
"Awe thank you, baby."
"Well, now for the borrowed. We all came to an agreement that out of Santana's pearl choker, Jane's lucky hair clip, Quinn's lucky handkerchief, and my dancing playlist, Iris's princess pin would be the perfect thing for you to borrow," Brittany explained. Iris walked over to her mommy and placed the pin on the bodice of her mother's dress.
"Now it's your turn to look like a princess."
"You are the sweetest little girl in the world, I love you," Mercedes said as she bent down and gave her a forehead pick.
Something Blue
"Alright ladies for something blue, we have something that isn't kid friendly but use your imaginations," Mary announced causing all of the women to laugh before turning to Mercedes who looked at herself in the mirror before turning towards them.
"I'm getting married."
Sam was standing at the end of the aisle with Artie, Roderick, and his father by his side he was ready to see his bride. This wedding had been put together quickly just three months after the engagement they had managed to change his parents' acres into something speedily beautiful. With marvelous sitting arrangements, and he knew the reception was going to look amazing but he just wanted to see his Mercedes.
The intro to At Last by Etta James started to play and everyone stood up as they awaited the bride. First came Polly as the flower girl as she took her basket of green and gold petals and tossed them as she walked. Then came Jane, Quinn, Brittany, and finally Santana. Next, there was Mercedes with Polly by her side. Sam let the tears fall as he looked at his wife come down the aisle with their daughter. When they reached their stopping point the music stopped and the patrons sat down.
"Who here, gives off the bride to be married," The officiant asked.
"I do," Iris stated proudly causing everyone to laugh.
"Well, then the lady said what she said," The officiant said. Iris let go of her mother's hand and Mercedes walked to her spot in front of Sam Iris went with the bridal party. Mercedes reached out and wiped away Sam's tears and mouthed "I love you" to her and he did the same.
"Now onto the vows, Sam you may start,"
"Gosh, Mercedes I love you so so so much. You make my heart expand, you make me want to be a better person, and I never want to be without you. You are the glue to my broken pieces, you are the song in my heart, and to know you is a privilege, that I never take for granted. The way you light up a room when you enter it, the way you save lives, and patients every day. The way you put others before you, your kindness, and your selfness. I fall in love with you every single day, and I can't believe that I get to spend the rest of my life with you, and our daughter. I love you more than you could ever realize."
"Mercedes,"
"Sam, I love you so much. The way you are protective, the way you love our child who isn't bound to you by genetics but instead by love blows me because there aren't a lot of men who would do half of what you do. I love your smile, your bad jokes, and your goofy side, I love you when you are with Iris. I love waking up every day to you, and I love the life and safety that we have been able to create with each other and that is something I will never let go of because I will never let go of you."
After the ring ceremony, the officiant said, "Sam you may now salute your bride." Sam leaned in and kissed Mercedes deeply as she pulled him in closer but made sure to keep it PG as everyone cheered and clapped for them. Then they pulled away.
"Hi, husband," Mercedes smiled softly.
"Hi wife," He replied back as he kissed her again. He would never get tired of doing that.
