A/N: I kinda got out of the swing by missing yesterday, so here's the first of two prompts that're coming out today. Fireteam Embers (Claire, Garrus, Daniels) are all my friend's; Hale and Sterling are mine.

Prompt 6: OLD ENEMIES

Daniels had been running on fumes through the last half of this raid - they all were, the whole six-man squad ground down to near nothing as they, yet again, made a razor-thin save for themselves from the heavy swarm of SIVA that Aksis called down, huddled on a pillar as they weathered the storm.

It was exhausting. But they were wearing Aksis down, and they were going to do what he couldn't do all those years ago.

They had him down to the wire, standing in the middle of the room. Daniels launched a Celestial Nighthawk-empowered Golden Gun into his face as the giant Fallen did something they hadn't expected - it looked like he was set to self-destruct.

Daniels froze. He never stopped, never froze - always flash and flare and a quick grin. But he'd died once here, first body completely destroyed. If it hadn't been for his Ghost, for the corpse of some unlucky Exo who'd been there before, he'd be dead. And now they were all going to die, his brain told him, panic rising to the point he'd never felt before. One stray shot from a Captain knocked him clear on his ass, and he was down.

Until.

Sterling appeared from a Blink, slamming a rift of Light energy down beneath him. Claire and Garrus were right behind him, one arm under each armpit as they pulled him to his feet, instantly bursting into their respective flaming ults as they advanced, tossing hammers and flinging flame. Sterling held the line, mowing down ads as they attempted to advance on her friend.

And there were River and Hale; the latter summoned a void shield and River ran for it. The moment her feet made contact with the Void light she was thrown upwards, igniting in midair, and he stared, wide-eyed, as two, four, six, eight, ten shots of a Golden Gun rained into Aksis.

With an almighty howl, Aksis reeled, ripping at its shielding, screaming as it died, and died hard, body exploding as it was consumed by fire.

Daniels froze again, astonished, until there were hugs raining down on him, his friends reaching out to grab hold of him, hugging each other, him - and he finally managed a laugh that might've been more a sob.
