Alyssa sat on the exam table in Carina's office. She was checking in every other day right now as her due date approached and Carina's concerns about her and her daughter's health grew. She hated going alone to the doctor and while Teddy had been coming with her she was home with Leo and Allison so Alyssa had asked Megan to come with her. Matt had to go back to BC to finish up a job for a client who didn't understand why he was delaying the build to be with Alyssa.
"Alyssa you can pick one person to come into the OR with you," Carina said, "I know you're 36 weeks and will be 37 tomorrow. I want to do the c-section tomorrow at 37 weeks. Your blood pressure is too high, it's not coming down like we had hoped with Faroke doing better. You're having painful contractions and with how much you've dilated the last two days I can't let you go home. Alyssa you could easily be in early labour if you continue this way you will be in land. You have to be monitored."
"But Matt's not here," Alyssa said, "he can't come down until the weekend."
"Alyssa we have to," Carina said, "I hate doing c-sections but baby B is breech, your blood pressure. It's not safe for any of you now. I'm going to keep you over night and we're going to monitor you."
"Can you try to turn her," Alyssa asked.
"I can try but it might not work," Carina said, "it's not always successful with singles and with twins it's harder."
"Please," Alyssa said, "I want to try a natural birth."
"I'll give it one attempt when your admitted but if your blood pressure goes up we go straight to the or," Carina replied.
"Mom," Alyssa asked.
"Lyss I know this isn't what you want but it's what is healthiest for you and your daughters. I didn't want the c-section with you," Megan said, 'but we had to."
"Was there a reason for yours," Carina asked.
"She was breech and when I went into labour at almost 39 weeks they couldn't get her to turn," Megan replied, "they tried everything they could but her heart rate was dropping so they did an emergency one. And Lyss you've been having sporadic contractions for a few days. I think it's time. Lyss was a week early, so was Allison. I think she was a few days , my mom said both Owen and I were."
"Their lungs," Alyssa asked.
"Will be fine," Carina assured.
"But," Alyssa said.
"Lyss 38 weeks is considered term," Megan assured, "it's only a week the girls will be fine. At 37 weeks it's. 99% survival rate. And they'll have the best care and all sorts of love."
"We're going to admit you and give you more medication to help the girls lungs," Carina said, "Alyssa they will be fine. The medication is a really low dose and just a precaution you've already had enough to mature their lungs. ."
"But they need 3 more weeks," Alyssa said.
"I was going to give them 2 more," Carina said, "my plan is to have Peds ready and we'll keep you and the girls for a few days for observation. We won't discharge until you're all healthy. Then you stay here in Seattle for a few weeks and when everyone is healthy and you're close to healing we'll let you go back to BC."
"But Matt's not here,' Alyssa cried.
"Call him," Carina said, "call your husband."
"Boy friend,' Megan corrected.
"Call him and tell him," Carina said, "we'll check you in. Your mom will run home and get what you need."
"Can we ask auntie Teddy to," Alyssa asked, "I don't want to be alone."
"I'll call Teddy," Megan agreed, "you need to be admitted."
"No," Alyssa said.
"Lyss you have everyone who loves you," Megan assured, "the family that raised you. If your blood pressure spikes and we have to do the surgery before Matt gets here you need to choose decision makers, you need to appoint a power of attorney for you and the girls."
"Uncle Owen," Alyssa replied, "he's always been my emergency contact."
"Alyssa, who do you want in the OR," Carina asked.
"Matt," Alyssa said.
"If he doesn't get here in time," Megan asked.
"Auntie Teddy ," Alyssa replied, "but I need both here."
"I'll let her know," Megan said.
"I want to do one more ultrasound once you're admitted," Carina told Alyssa.
"No," Alyssa said.
Megan took both of Alyssa's hands stepping between her and Carina, "Ladybug look at me. Eyes on me Ladybug. We are going to go down to admitting and do the paperwork together. I will be with you every second. Then we will come back up stairs, get you settled and Teddy will you bring your stuff."
"The girls bag," Alyssa said, "it's in my closet. The onesies I want them to wear in the hospital and to go home. Their car seats aren't in my truck yet. We were going to do the stroller tonight."
"Teddy will bring the bag and we took your keys weeks ago," Megan said, "we had to stop you from driving. Teddy will get the car seats put in. we will take care of you."
"I'm scared," Alyssa whimpered, "I'm not ready, they're not ready, we're supposed to have 2 more weeks."
"Alyssa you have about 16 hours maximum," Megan replied, "and you are ready. The last few weeks I have seen just how ready you are to be a mom. You are going to be great. How you've stepped up to care for Faroke and I, Leo and Allison, auntie Teddy and uncle Owen. Lyss you are ready. You've stepped in and done the things we needed you to, quietly subtly but we all know. We're here for you. Lean on me lyss. I'm here and I'm not going anywhere."
Alyssa called Matt sobbing.
"He can't come," Alyssa cried, "he's not answering. I left a voice mail."
"Okay so Teddy and I will stay with you," Megan said, "my mom is going to help at their house."
Teddy grabbed her phone off the counter, "Megan?
"Lyss is being admitted," Megan said, "Carina is with her now. She's still having the sporadic contractions no pattern yet but more frequent . Things are starting and baby B is still breech."
"How's Lyss," Teddy asked.
"Terrified," Megan answered, "we need you to come."
"What does she need," Teddy asked.
"Her shower stuff, brush, makeup,"Megan said, "clothes but she only has maternity clothes here. She has a bag for each of the girls in her closet."
"I'll grab it and we'll have a few days to get her a going home outfit," Teddy said, "but I'll bring her leggings, tops and a sweater. She'll still want looser clothes for a bit. And easy access to the tops. It arrived today but I ordered her a couple hoodies from a brand I liked that were designed for breastfeeding but look really good and you wouldn't be able to tell. I still wear one and Allison hasn't in like a year and a half."
"Teddy she's terrified and I can't calm her," Megan said.
"We've got to get her calm," Teddy said, "is Matt coming?"
"He hasn't answered his phone," Megan replied.
"Lets give that to Owen," Teddy replied.
Alyssa sat in her hospital bed crying.
"Breathe," Megan coaxed, "breath ladybug."
"Can you braid my hair," Alyssa asked, it was one of the few ways she would ask Megan to care for her.
"French or regular," Megan asked.
"French braids," Alyssa answered.
Megan stood beside Alyssa and French braided her long thick hair. Soon Teddy joined them in the room and sat on the other side of Alyssa.
"Oww," Alyssa groaned.
"That's a contraction," Teddy said checking the monitor, "these girls are ready to meet you."
"I'm not Matt isn't here," Alyssa whined.
"Breathe ladybug," Megan coached, "deep breath. You have me and Teddy."
"We're right with you," Teddy assured, rubbing Alyssa's back.
"I think he's ignoring me," Alyssa said, "he's mad I'm here and I stayed."
"No it was too late to go home once Faroke was out of the hospital," Megan said, "lyss you couldn't have done that drive sweetheart."
"Alyssa it will be okay," Teddy promised.
"I want Matt," Alyssa cried.
"I know ladybug," Megan said, "I know because I wanted your dad when I was in the hospital with you."
"Can you ask Dr Deluca if I can move around the hospital," Alyssa asked, "I can't just sit here and wait."
"I'll text," Teddy promised, taking out her phone.
"I think you can probably stand up," Megan said, "do you want to lean on me?"
"I can do it," Alyssa said.
"Lyss don't be stubborn," Teddy said, "you're connected to monitors and IVs. Let your mom and I help you."
"But," Alyssa started.
"No sweetheart," Teddy said, "you're so strong for all of us, let us be strong for you. Sweetheart, you've held all of us together the last couple months. We never got to really have your baby shower or truly celebrate you and the girls."
"I had the people I wanted," Alyssa said, "Nana and my aunts and cousins came down last weekend."
"But that's not what we wanted to do for you," Teddy said.
"I wanted the people I love," Alyssa said, "thats what we had the people who love me and are going to love my girls."
"You did," Megan agreed, "and you're all ready for them."
"The carseats," Alyssa said.
"We have a friend thats a firefighter and might be off," Teddy said, "we'll ask Ben Warren to go over and put them in. Owen wants to but can't yet."
"I'm scared," Alyssa whimpered, "it hurts. Fuck mom this hurts."
"I know Alyssa," Megan said.
"We've both been here," Teddy assured, "breathe through the pain lyss. That's the second in the last ten minutes. These girls aren't waiting."
"Dr Deluca said I was already 3cm earlier," Alyssa said.
"Lyss you're in labor whether you're ready or not," Megan said, "and I would prefer you not have to go through all of it with your blood pressure as high as it it."
"Can it stop hurting," Alyssa asked.
"Yes," Teddy replied, "I can call Carina and we can get an epidural started then they'll up it for the C-section."
"We can't until Matt is here," Alyssa replied.
"We will wait as long as we safely can," Teddy promised, "if it becomes unsafe for you or the girls we'll do it right away."
Megan tried distracting, "can we have the names in case Matt isn't here so we can make sure they get the right names."
"I wanted to wait," Alyssa said.
"Sweetheart it will stay between us," Teddy promised, "your mom and I just want the information in case they have to put you under general in an emergency."
"A on my right is Alexandra Megan Hunt-Wolff and B on my left is Celeste Theodora Hunt-Wolff," Alyssa said.
"Alexandra Megan," Megan whispered putting her hand on where the baby was.
"And Celeste Theodora," Teddy smiled putting her hand opposite to Megan's.
"For grandma and Oma," Megan smiled.
"I've always hated Theodora," Teddy shook her head, "but knowing my granddaughter has it as a middle name it's not so bad."
"Why does this hurt," Alyssa asked.
"A shower helped," Teddy suggested, "while we wait for next steps why don't you go stand in the shower and let the warm water hit where it hurts."
Alyssa nodded.
"Can I help you," Teddy asked.
Alyssa nodded.
"Come on Lyss," Teddy replied, "let's get up then we're going to let Carina know what's going on."
"They can't be born until Matt's here," Alyssa replied.
"Alyssa they might have to be," Megan said.
Alyssa tried standing in the shower but while it reduced some of the pain she just wanted to keep calling Matt.
Carina came in to check, "I want to be in the OR in the next two hours. Alyssa your blood pressure is too high."
"Matt isn't here," Alyssa sobbed.
"But we are," Teddy assured.
"They will be born knowing how very very loved they are," Megan promised.
"But their dad," Alyssa whined.
"Derek wasn't with me when you were born," Megan said, "he waited outside and Owen was with me. Alyssa you will have someone who loves you and your girls. You get to pick."
"Can both of you come," Alyssa asked.
"I'll do what I can," Teddy promised.
Teddy stepped into the hall and went to find Carina.
"Dr Altman," Carina said.
"We need to talk about Alyssa Hunt," Teddy said.
"Why," Carina asked.
"You don't know the full history," Teddy said, "you can't. You weren't there. When Lyss was in high school I had custody of her with Owen. Carina she has a lot of trauma. She's terrified right now. We've been working with her at home but she's scared of giving birth and having surgery. She had an emergency appy years ago and it was traumatic on top of her mom being a pow for 12 years. Right now Megan and I barely have her holding on."
"How can we help her," Carina asked.
"Let both of us come into the or," Teddy replied, "we're surgeons. Megan and I know what we're doing in there we're not going to get all light headed and faint. We will stay at Alyssa's head. Reassure her."
"Her mom," Carina asked.
"Their relationship is complicated," Teddy replied, "she calls us both her moms. She's having painful contractions and Alyssa doesn't complain about pain. She was raised with military discipline and by active duty soldiers then veterans. She's usually the tough it out type. Can we at least order an epidural to get some medication in her. It might calm her down, lower her blood pressure."
"We can't because they'll do the spinal," Carina said, "can we go sooner?"
"She wants Matt," Teddy replied, "she wants her boyfriend."
"Let's have the three of you in the or but if he can't handle it we'll remove him," Carina said, "what else can we do to calm her. Is there a friend, grandmother?"
"Uncle," Teddy said, "Owen is the absolute best for her when she's spinning out and triggered."
"Owen," Carina asked.
"He raised Alyssa as much if not more than Megan did," Teddy replied, "he was there when she was born."
"Be ready," Carina said, "and get Megan scrubs."
Megan tried to make Alyssa more comfortable and help her calm down. Finally Alyssa's phone rang.
"Matt," Megan barked.
"Megan," Matt asked.
"Alyssa is in labour where are you," Megan snapped.
"In the border line," Matt replied.
"So she's doing this with out you," Megan asked, "her dad was no use when she was born and never bonded with her. You need to be here. Your twins are premature. There's going to be a few days in the hospital at least likely in the nicu. Get your ass down here."
Alyssa sat on the bed sobbing.
"I know this hurts and your scared," Teddy soothed, "I know sweetheart."
Four hours later Matt finally arrived.
"Lyss," Matt smiled trying to take her hand.
Alyssa pulled back.
"Matt," Megan warned, "hallway."
"What's going on," Matt asked in the hall.
"You are not coming in here and taking over," Megan said, "you have not been here for the past 6 hours as she is getting increasingly anxious and in more pain. We are going to the OR in an hour. We will get you scrubs and a cap. Teddy and I will be coming as well."
"She's allowed one person," Matt said.
"We made arrangements for her to have all three," Megan said, "because you weren't here. Let Alyssa decide. Unless dr Deluca says no to three then we all go. Teddy and I are surgeons. Teddy works here and as co-head of cardio out ranks Dr Deluca."
"It should just be us and our kids," Matt said.
"It's her decision as the paitent," Megan said.
"You've been with her all day twisting her view," Matt said, "give us some time."
"I'm going to go get my scrubs and a cap," Megan replied.
Matt walked in and sat on the edge of the bed beside Alyssa. Teddy noticed how possessive he was the way he pulled her into his arms while she was clearly uncomfortable.
"I'm here," Matt said.
"They'll move us to the OR soon," Alyssa winced.
"They have to," Teddy replied.
"Three minutes now," Alyssa guessed.
"Yes," Teddy replied, "longer and stronger."
"I know," Alyssa said, "auntie Teddy can you help me move a bit?"
"I've got it," Matt barked.
"Matt Alyssa asked me," Teddy replied, "Lyss what do you want to do?"
"I liked when I was sitting on the edge of the bed leaning on you with mom rubbing my back that helped," Alyssa replied.
"Okay your mom went to change," Teddy said, "lean on Matt and I'll rub your back. Where hurts most?"
"Below my ribs," Alyssa groaned.
"Do you want a second gown or a robe over your back," Teddy offered, both had been on and off all day.
"I'm really warm," Alyssa said, "I don't want it on."
"I know this is hot sweaty work," Teddy replied, "put your arms around Matt's shoulders and let him support you. Matt you're going to take the weight of her upper body let Alyssa fully relax into you."
When Megan returned Teddy stepped out to change.
"How are you holding up ladybug," Megan asked.
"I'm done," Alyssa said, "can we go now? I can't do this anymore."
"As soon as the Or is ready for us," Megan assured.
"And just the two of us," Matt tried, "family waiting outside my parents are on their way down."
"Lyss what do you want," Megan asked.
Alyssa froze, she wanted her mom and aunt but didn't know how to say it infront of Matt.
"I want to see my girls," Alyssa answered.
"Who is coming with you," Teddy asked.
"I am," Matt replied, taking over, "we're going the two of us and will let you know when we're ready for you to meet the girls. "
"Alyssa." Megan asked.
Alyssa knew saying the opposite to Matt would make him angry and possibly leave so she nodded.
"Lyss we need words," Megan said, "I need you to use your voice."
"I'm okay," Alyssa groaned.
"Lyss," Teddy confirmed, "is this your choice? You can choose who ever you want it's your body, your birth you get to choose."
"Matt," Alyssa said, "and…"
Her voice trailed off as Matt pulled her closer to him muffeling Alyssa's voice.
"Lyss," Teddy asked again, "I didn't get the last part."
"Me," Matt replied.
By this point Owen and Evelyn had arrived in the hospital with the younger kids and went to farokes room to wait.
"We're going now," Carina said, "I need everyone out for my final exam before we go and to do the surgical preparation."
"I'll stay," Matt said.
"No," Carina said, "I need everyone out. Dr Altman, dr Hunt can you show him where to wait please."
"I'm going with Alyssa to see my children be born," Matt said, "they're mine you have to let me."
"I don't," Carina said, "Alyssa is my patient. You are not married and she has selected power of attorney and identified her next of kin."
"Who did she choose," Matt snapped.
"Owen is Power of attorney and she identified Megan, her mother as next of kin," Teddy answered.
"No I should be," Matt argued, "I'm their father."
"And you haven't been here," Megan snapped, "you weren't here. Alyssa had to make decisions for herself and your children because you weren't here. You abandoned them. I had to make these decisions when I was in labour with her. I chose my brother then as her guardian and our power of attorney. But I was 19, Alyssa was unplanned, her dad and I slept together a few times as friends with benefits. And my daughter is the best thing that could have happened to me, my daughter and keeping her is the best decision I ever made. Right now you are harming my daughter. You are speaking over her and making decisions for her. Alyssa is fully capable of deciding for her self."
"They're my children," Matt snapped.
"And Alyssa is mine," Megan hissed, "you are harming her. You are isolating her from the people who love her. You withhold your time and love when she's not doing what you want her to. She was coping and doing okay until you took over. You grabbed at her when you saw that Teddy and I were sitting off to the side. She was talking to us but didn't want to be touched. You didn't ask, you just assumed. You're not giving her her voice and what she wants. Matt you go in there just the two of you with Alyssa who is terrified of having surgery she will be really upset. We've been working with her all day to get her to agree to the C-section with supports in place."
"Matt she's not the woman I raised when she's with you," Teddy argued, "you are not supporting her how she is asking. You haven't asked, you have assumed. You have done it for her entire pregnancy. You are taking away Alyssa's voice. We are going to fight for her voice to be heard. It's not about me or Megan being in the Or with you and seeing the girls right away. It's about what Alyssa wants. We raised Alyssa to be strong and independent. We taught her to choose for herself and that her opinion matters. This is her body it's her choice."
In the hospital room Carina began to ask Alyssa a few questions seeing how the dynamic and her attitude had changed and Alyssa had stopped speaking with Matt present.
"Alyssa," Carina said, "I have to make sure you're okay and safe. Who do you want with you in the OR?"
"I don't know," Alyssa said.
"You do know," Carina said, "you're hesitating to say it. Who do you want? I will make it happen as my decision."
"I want mom and auntie Teddy and Matt," Alyssa whispered, "the girls should meet their grandmas right away."
"Any preferences," Carina asked.
"A to my mom once I've held her then b to auntie Teddy," Alyssa said, "me first then to a grandma."
"And Matt," Carina asked.
"He stays with me when the girls go to the nicu," Alyssa said, "my mom and auntie Teddy can go with the girls."
Jo pulled Megan and Teddy aside, "I think he's manipulating her and she doesn't know how to tell him to stop. How long have they been together?"
"Three years," Megan said, "they live together and did lockdown together in Canada."
"So he's had two years to manipulate and warp her perception," Jo said.
"Yes," Teddy replied, "we're all worried about how controlling he is and how he's speaking for her."
"I'm going to see if I can get around him," Jo said, "I can probably pull something cardio related. But Megan I don't know how."
"I'm a trauma surgeon," Megan said.
"I know that," Jo replied, "and I know you're good. But you're her mother. I can for sure put you in the gallery and you can talk to Alyssa."
"Jo," Teddy asked.
"Matt reminds me of my first husband," Jo said, "he's manipulating her for sure."
"How do we help her," Teddy asked.
"She'll have to decide for herself she's had enough," jo said, "but give her a safe place to run with those girls when she's ready. She'll be running with two kids. She'll see it and put together a plan as soon as she does. Alyssa is smart, she's educated and she's been raised by strong people and a family that loves her. Dr Altman I don't know her history with you as well as I should but you appear to be close."
"Teddy raised Alyssa with Owen when I was in Iraq," Megan replied, "because of circumstances my daughter was raised by the three of us."
"So the men issue and being controlled," Jo asked.
"I did my best," Teddy sighed, "we were good until Matt. And she isolated with him, and he was her bubble."
"Dr Altman," Carina called from the door, "I'm going to want you in the OR on standby."
"Why," Teddy asked.
"Baby B is having some irregular rhythms with contractions," Carina said, "I want cardio on standby."
"I'll go scrub and be ready in the OR," Teddy replied.
"Dr Hunt," Carina said, "you get to come with us."
"I do," Megan asked.
"You do," Carina said.
"Okay," Megan said.
"Matt you need to change into scrubs and Dr Hunt will show you where to get them and take you to OR 4," Carina replied, "Dr Willson will go with Alyssa and I. we will meet Dr Altman there. Dr Hunt you are there as emotional support and Dr Altman is going to monitor baby b's heart."
"What's wrong with her heart," Matt asked.
"She's having some irregular rhythms," Carina said, "dr Altman is going to be there just in case."
"Okay," Matt begrudgingly agreed.
"So Alyssa you'll have Matt and your mom for support," Carina said, "we've talked about what you want for the process."
"I want both girls put on my chest right away," Alyssa said, "then once we've gotten to hold them they'll go with the grandma who's name they have to the nursery or nicu."
"Okay," Carina said, "who goes to who?"
"My right is a she goes to my mom," Alyssa said, "b is my left and she goes with auntie Teddy."
"Okay," Jo said, "it's time we'll see you in the OR."
Alyssa was wheeled to the Or with Matt and Megan on either side of her.
"Ready Lyss," Megan smiled.
Alyssa didn't respond.
In the OR they quickly draped and prepped Alyssa's stomach. The anesthesiologist changed the medication going into Alyssa's spine and they waited for her to be fully numbed.
"Little bit of pressure," Carina said before making the first cut.
"Here comes baby B," Jo said, "she's on top of her sister."
"Do I get to cut the cord," Matt asked.
"No because it's the sterile field," Jo said, "but you can pick someone on this side to."
"Auntie Teddy," Alyssa asked, "is she okay? Is Celeste okay?"
"She's gorgeous Lyss," Teddy beamed under her mask.
"Their Oma can cut the cords if she's allowed," Alyssa said.
"Teddy is sterile," Jo said, "she could."
"I'm Oma and Megan is grandma," Teddy clarified.
Teddy assisted with cutting the cord and Jo brought the baby to Alyssa laying her on her moms chest.
"Hi," Alyssa beamed at her daughter, "don't be scared Celeste. I'm your mommy. I love you, I love you."
"And a," Carina said.
"Alexandra," Matt replied.
"Matt you take Celeste and let Alyssa meet Alexandra," Megan said, "I'll help you lift her."
Carina brought Alexandra to Alyssa.
"Oh Alex," Alyssa smiled, "hi baby. I'm your mommy. I love you so much. Yes I do."
"Alexandra Megan," Megan smiled seeing the baby on her own daughters chest.
"And Celeste Theodora," Teddy smiled at the baby in her dads arms.
"I do need to take them to the Nicu and we need your hands Dr Altman," Jo said.
"What's wrong," Alyssa asked.
"Nicu is a precaution," jo replied.
"Your bleeding more than I would like," Carina said, "I want your aunt to help us get the bleeders."
"Two units of o neg," Teddy yelled, "she's o neg."
"She knows your blood type," Matt asked.
"You don't," Teddy snapped.
"Matt go with the girls," Megan commanded, "stay with your daughters."
Teddy worked quickly with Jo and Carina.
"I found it an artery was nicked," Teddy said, "I can fix it. Suture Bo Khee."
"Mom," Alyssa panicked.
"Look at me," Megan said, "auntie Teddy has it."
"Mommy," Alyssa whimpered.
Megan looked at the monitors and Alyssa's heart rate and BP were skyrocketing. She began to sing the song she had sung as a lullaby when Alyssa was a baby, "you are my sunshine my only sunshine…"
"We're good," Teddy said, "I need to do a few more sutures. Lyss I'm good at this. Your good. We'll fix this Carina will close and then you can see your babies."
Alyssa was moved to the recovery room once the incision was closed.
"My girls," Alyssa said, "how are my babies. I want my babies."
"20 minutes," Megan said, "Matt's with them do you want me to call?"
"Please," Alyssa said.
Megan called Matt on facetime so Alyssa could see the girls.
About an hour later two bassinets were wheeled into Alyssa's hospital room.
"I want to feed them both," Alyssa said.
"Let's do one at a time," the nurse said.
"I want to hold both of them," Alyssa said.
"Okay," the nurse agreed, she helped Alyssa get set up to feed both girls at once.
"Their healthy," Alyssa beamed.
"They are," Matt replied, "are you okay?"
"Ya," Alyssa said looking at the IV in her arm with the blood transfusion, "tired."
"I bet," Matt replied, "do you want anything?"
"No," Alyssa answered, "just to be with our family."
"I love you," Matt said sitting beside her.
"I love you too," Alyssa sighed.
"Who should I take," Matt asked.
"Celeste," Alyssa replied.
A couple hours later Owen call me back in a wheelchair with Teddy pushing him.
"Uncle Owen," Alyssa smiled, "are you ready to meet your granddaughters?"
"I am," Owen said.
"Do you want to hold them," Alyssa asked.
"We do," Teddy smiled.
"I have Alexandra," Alyssa said, "and Matt has Celeste."
"Hi Celeste," Owen smiled when Matt put her in his arms, "I'm your Opa it means grandpa but I'm your mommy's uncle. You are beautiful. You look like your mommy as a new born."
"She's 5 pounds," Alyssa said.
"And Alex is an ounce bigger," Matt said as Teddy beamed at the baby in her arms.
"Alyssa they're gorgeous kiddo," Owen smiled, "I'm happy for you. I can't want for you to bring them home and we can really get to know them."
"They're perfect Lyss," Teddy smiled.
That night Matt went back to the house to shower and Megan sat on the foot of Alyssa's bed.
"Mom should I have loved them right away," Alyssa asked.
"I did with you," Megan smiled rocking Alex in her arms gently, "are you and Matt okay?"
"I'm just tired and I'm okay with letting him make decisions for now," Alyssa said, "let him do the thinking for a few days I'm too tired. They said I'll have to stay a few days."
"That's your third unit since your left the Or," Megan asked.
"Second ," Alyssa replied, "it's the last one."
"Four today," Megan said.
"I'm tired," Alyssa yawned, "but I just want to hold them."
"Let's switch then I'll put them in their beds.
"I want to cobed," Alyssa said, "put them together in one bed. But first I'm holding both."
"Why," Megan asked.
"It's better for twins so they don't feel alone," Alyssa replied.
"Okay," Megan agreed. She laid Alex in her moms arm and smiled as Alyssa whispered to her girls and kissed the tops of their heads and their little cheeks.
