The story of the three brothers

Nuka found Herobrine in his throne room, sitting on his throne and holding a paper that he seemed to be reading through. When Nuka entered, he looked up briefly, but when he saw that it was only him, he turned back to the paper.

"So, what did you find?" he asked without looking at Nuka.

"Well?... ," he replied after a moment's hesitation and ran a hand through his hair, "Nothing really good."

Herobrine just shrugged his shoulders indifferently.

"Too bad," he replied, but Nuka didn't have the impression that he was particularly sad about it.

Now Nuka stood there indecisively, not knowing how to put his question to Herobrine.

Come on! he thought and tried to give himself courage. He can't do more than get angry and yell at you.

Herobrine, meanwhile, noticed that Nuka was still standing there, so he took his eyes off the paper and looked at him suspiciously.

"Is something wrong?" he asked gruffly, whereupon Nuka winced briefly.

"Yes… No! Well…" he stuttered briefly before finally sighing to calm himself and returning his gaze to Herobrine.

"I… I wanted to ask you something," he finally managed to say. Instead of getting angry as he expected, Herobrine just sighed with annoyance, leaned back and closed his eyes.

"And what would that be?" he asked without looking at Nuka.

Nuka swallowed, his heart beating faster, glad but also nervous before he managed to ask his question.

"Are you related to Notch and Steve?" Nuka closed his mouth and waited nervously for Herobrine's reaction, whereupon he raised his head and stared at Nuka with a look he couldn't interpret, which only made him more nervous.

"Not quite," he said after a moment's hesitation.

His voice was calm, not angry, and Nuka was very relieved about that, while he waited curiously for Herobrine to say more.

"When you get right down to it," Herobrine continued, "only Steve and I are real brothers. Notch grew up with us, but we don't share the same blood…" "Fortunately." He added the last with disapproval and resumed reading the paper again.

Nuka raised his eyebrows in surprise when he heard that.

So they actually have a common past! he thought.

"But why do you hate them so much?" he blurted and immediately regretted, when Herobrine's eyes shot up at him angrily. Nuka's breath caught.

Did I go too far? He watched Herobrine slowly get up from the throne, put the note in his pocket and move towards Nuka.

Although all his instincts were screaming at him to back off or run, Nuka remained standing and held Herobrine's gaze, determined not to show fear.

"Listen!" Herobrine hissed, stopping right by Nuka. The anger in his voice was unmistakable, "if you're so eager to find out why, then go back to the library! I'm sure there's a book there that can answer your questions!"

Nuka looked at him, startled!

He didn't expect such a harsh answer. Before Nuka could respond, Herobrine grabbed his arm and jerked him towards the door he had just come out of.
"But why don't you tell me?" Nuka protested, desperate to know, while Herobrine dragged him across the room to the door, which he viciously kicked open.

"It's simple," he hissed and pushed Nuka through, causing him to stumble and fall, "because I don't want to!" And with these words he slammed the door in Nuka's face!

Nuka sat on the floor for a moment, staring at the door, before finally sitting up and sighing. He had obviously gone too far with this question, even if Nuka didn't quite understand why it had made Herobrine so angry.

I guess I'll have to find out for myself. He thought, getting up and giving the door a sad, disappointed look.

For a moment he thought about going back to the throne room and asking Herobrine for more answers, but immediately dismissed the idea.
He would only make things worse. The only thing Nuka could do now was to follow his advice and search the library for a book that could answer his questions.

Briefly, a thought came to him if Herobrine might have meant his diary by that book. Nuka immediately shook his head.

No! Herobrine would never want me to read something so private. He must have meant another book. Maybe a history book?

With this thought, Nuka sighed, turned away, and walked towards the library.

On arrival there, Nuka immediately went in search of history books. Not too long later, he was looking at a whole shelf of them.

Unsure, he walked along and read the titles on their spines, when a relatively thin looking volume caught his interest.

The Tales and Legends of Minecraftia

Maybe this will give me some answers. Nuka hopefully reached and pulled out the book.

Instead of taking it back to his room, Nuka settled directly down on the floor. Leaning his back against one of the shelves, he opened the book and began to list through the pages.

There were some interesting stories in there, about how the first Creeper was created or how the first Minecrafter found the End and killed the Ender Dragon for the first time. Only Nuka already knew all these stories.

Every child knew such stories and soon Nuka doubted if this was really a history book.

He was about to slam it shut when he suddenly came across a story he didn't know.

The Story of The Three Brothers

Well, that sounds interesting. Nuka began to read.

Many years ago, when Minecraftia had just been created, there were three brothers, who lived among the few people living there.

The oldest was named Notch and he was the creator of this world and the leader of their group.

The second was called Steve and he was an excellent swordsman and survivalist.

And the youngest was called Brian, who was the bravest and had greatest ambitions.

The three of them lived together in their great kingdom, which they ruled in peace and harmony.

All was well until one day Brian persuaded his brothers to go treasure hunting with him as they used to do before they had to rule the kingdom. Notch and Steve agreed and so they went deep underground to find valuable minerals and maybe diamonds.

Then a horde of monsters surprised them and they had to flee.

During their escape Brian ran across a bridge, suspended over a gorge, and the rotten boards broke. While he was still trying to free himself, a Creeper exploded in front of him. The bridge collapsed, destroyed, and Brian fell into the gorge below. The cave collapsed in the explosion and Steve and Notch had no choice but to flee, abandoning their youngest brother behind them. They returned and searched for weeks, but found nothing.

Months later, Brian, by then believed dead by everyone, suddenly reappeared, but now he had white soulless eyes and strange powers, which made him the God of the Moon.

In a violent quarrel with his brothers, he almost destroyed the castle with his powers, and then left on a path of terrible destruction and rage, burning villages and towns that lay in his path. His two brothers survived and swore to stop their former brother, who had forsaken his name and began to call himself Herobrine.

A few weeks later they faced him again and a terrible battle ensued. There, Steve perished, only to respawn as the God of Heaven. Notch became the God of the Sun and used his powers to defeat Herobrine, banishing him to the desolate dimension that is now known as the Nether. There, Herobrine is condemned to remain in exile for three hundred years as punishment for his crimes.

Since that time, peace reigns in the Overworld, but at a high price for the remaining gods.

Notch withdrew into the Aether to watch over the spirits of the deceased and left the Overworld to Steve, which he still rules to this day in peace and harmony.

The End

Nuka slammed the book shut.

Three hundred years! he thought in shock. Locked up here! Alone...

He couldn't help a shudder. He knew only too well how it felt to be alone, but how lonely one would feel after being locked up here for three hundred years?... No! He did not want to imagine!

This is a cruel punishment! Thought Nuka in dismay, while staring incredulously at the text. Even for someone like Herobrine...

I'm surprised he hasn't gone insane... Nuka thought sympathetically as he studied the book, shaking his head uncomprehendingly.

How could Notch do this to someone?! Especially someone supposed to be his brother? He asked himself. I know that Herobrine has done some terrible things that probably cannot be forgiven and Notch had every right to punish him for that, but three hundred years?

He sighed.

He knew that this book wouldn't explain more. It gave him a few answers, but Nuka did not feel satisfied yet.

I wonder how Herobrine felt when he understood that he was abandoned here? He thought as he ran his eyes over the high bookshelves before turning back to the book, even though he knew none of the books wouldn't help him with that question.

But maybe another book could answer such questions for him.

Nuka raised his head when the diary came to his mind.

Yes! he thought, I'm sure I can find more in there!

Only… I wasn't going to read it... Nuka reminded himself. Or am I?

After all, Herobrine had made it clear that Nuka would not get any more answers from him and he had told Nuka that he could find books in the library that would answer his questions.

So couldn't he also theoretically mean the diary?

After all, Nuka had also found it in the library and it would definitely give him answers!

Encouraged by the thought, Nuka got up, put the book back in its place and went to his room, hoping to find out more about his past in Herobrine's diary.
