I do not own Pokemon. And the last names in here may or may not be true. Don't ask me, cuz I just wrote it out of complete boredom! YAY! Enjoy!

Years Apart

I muttered something as Jessie, my old Team Rocket partner, entered the room. I was hoping to tell her how I truly felt about her all these years, but she had called a week before this little Rocket reunion at my house, and filled me in on the facts. Jessica Amstar, the woman whom I believed would always be there for me, was engaged. And believe me when I say I was completely enraged when she told me who it was. Have you ever had the feeling of pure hatred? The feeling inside like you wanted to kill someone? Well imagine that feeling twenty-five times worse, and you will have how I felt that day. Jessie's fiancé was my long time rival, Butch Burnhartt.

Jessie smiled at me and I just looked away.

"Hi James." She said. I did nothing. I was to hurt to even look at her.

"James, is something wrong?" She asked. If she only knew how I truly felt. I shook my head. I felt my eyes begin to tear up.

"Are you sure nothing is wrong?" She asked, and looked down at me. I ignored her. Didn't Butch love Cassidy? Was all he said to her a lie? Was it an act? If that's true, did Butch tell her? If that was also true, how did she take it? Did he hurt her? All these questions where rushing through my head at once.

"No Jess. Nothing." I answered, realizing she had said something. I was lying. She seemed to know that, too.

"James, tell me." She stared at me, sympathy in her eyes.

"You're my best friend, James. You always have been. You know you can tell me anything." She said. Friend. Ha. Didn't she realize she was more than just my friend? I felt stronger than that, but it was to late for me to say anything.

"Jessie," I started, looking at her, and then standing up. "Jessie, I know it's probably to late for you to care, but I… Jessie I love you!" I spun around and began crying again. She looked up at me, and stood up herself. She opened her mouth, ready to say something, but the phone rang.

"I'll be right back." She said. In the next room, I knew something was wrong, but I couldn't quite make out the conversation. When she returned, she was crying rather hard. She buried her head in my shoulder. I sympathetically rubbed her back. When she looked up at me, from the look she gave me, I knew instantly what had happened.

"I-I-I'm sorry Jess." I said.

"Why James? Why did this happen to him? Why do things like this always seem to happen to me?" I shook my head. I really didn't know. We had a long conversation and I brought her home. She really loved him. If you haven't guessed what happened, on his way over, Butch had been killed in a car accident.

Right then, I realized something. Jessie would always be there for me. And I would always be there for her, as well.
