Mimi had gathered the Digidestined together for a meeting.
That meant bad news. Mimi never called for meetings.
Never.
They watched as Mimi stumbled over her words for a while, clearly upset.
Eventually, Joe smiled at her and asked gently what the problem was.
She started to cry. Between sobs, she choked out her words.
Her father had been transferred.
She was moving to America.

Much later, after the tears and heartfelt good-byes, after everyone was gone, the only person left was Joe.
"Umm…Err…Mimi…"
Suddenly, his expression changed from one of sorrow to one of determination. It was a look that was familiar to Mimi. He had worn it when he had pledged to his brother that he would make sure the sun would come up.
He had worn it when he asked her out all those months ago.
"Mimi, I'm not going to say goodbye. That would mean you would be going away forever."
He took two swift steps up to her and interlaced their fingers.
"I know you'll be coming back. S-so here's what I'll do."
He slowly kissed the back of her hand and looked into her eyes.
"I'll be waiting…For you…"
The feel of his hands twined with her own reassured her…He was her Joe. He meant every word he said. She finally let herself believe that she would come back.
"Thank you, Joe."
"For what?"
"For being you."
And then she kissed him.
