Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road
Heero leaned back against the park bench. Even after all these years, he couldn't believe what had happened. Even after all these year, every little thing still reminded him of…her.
Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go
It had been beautiful. Under her kind direction, Heero had learned to live again. To recover emotions lost long ago. He learned to feel. To cry. To live.
So make the best
of this test and don't ask why
They had celebrated in the mere presence of one another. Together, Heero knew they could have done anything. But, somehow, he lost it…
It's not a question but a lesson learned in time
Somewhere, in his heart, he knew it wouldn't last. But Heero had denied it in exchange for the time spent with her. She lit up his life, and he didn't want to think about life without her.
So take the photographs and still frames in your mind
She told him he couldn't give her what she needed. She told him she needed space. So Heero did what he thought she needed him to do. He left.
Hang it on a shelf in good health and good time
How could he have known? How could he have guessed? What could he have done to prevent it?
Tattoos and memories and dead skin on trial
Heero slowly got up off the bench and stretched. He walked silently through the park and back to his car, where he proceeded to drive the long, twisting path to the spot he visited every year at this time. He knew he should move on, but it didn't feel right…
For what it's worth, it was worth all the while
Stopping briefly at a flower stand, Heero purchased a bouquet of white lilies. He made his way through the crowd of people, to a spot that brought back more painful memories then he was ready to let go of.
It's something unpredictable
He gazed up at the cold stone memorial and gravesite. The place where, only four years before…
But in the end
it's right
The place where only four years before the light of his life had ended hers.
I hope you had the time of your life
Heero placed the flowers on the dais. He took one last look at the memorial, a cold dedication to what had saved his life. In the back of his mind, Heero knew he wouldn't be coming back.
As Heero walked back to his car, there was nothing he could do to stop the tears from rolling down his face. He stopped, and took a final glance at the grave. And remembered.
Relena…
I hope you had the time of your life…
