Just a little songfic I wrote when I was bored to death and had nothing to do. My second songfic about Cho mourning for Cedric. The song's an old pop song that probably no one knows. Please review!
Disclaimer: J.K. owns Cho, Cedric, Hogwarts, and the Astronomy Tower. Pic Corp, whoever they are, own the song Count Every Star. I own everything else (not that much is left).
Cho stared out the astronomy tower that midnight at the vast blanket of stars above her. She loved this place. She used to come here many nights with Cedric and they'd kiss and talk and kiss and laugh and kiss and cry and kiss. It was always so peaceful, so calm, so quiet. She used to come with Cedric; now she came alone, and the only places Cedric were was in her mind and in heaven. Neither place did her much good when all she wanted was to share another evening up here with him. The stars alone could number how much she loved him, how many times they'd laughed together, how happy they had been together.
And they alone could number how many times she missed him.
Cho looked down at the rose garden below that seemed to go on forever on the Hogwarts ground. She remembered plucking a single rose and giving it to Cedric. He had laughed and kissed her and held the rose while they watched the fireflies.
So many roses, and so many fireflies. So many tears. So much grief, for Cedric.
These countless things could show how much she missed her boyfriend, how much she missed her almost-brother, how much she missed her best friend, how much she missed Cedric.
These could show, and so could all her tears.
She looked at the huge willow tree planted at the astronomy tower. Memory came. Cedric had climbed up there and teased her: "If you want your kiss then you have to come up!" She hurried up, giggling and admonishing him all at once. Then they had kissed, and the countless leaves had swayed gently in the breeze, their beauty making Cho think of her love.
Now all they made her think of was her tears.
Standing on the beach, watching waves crash, one after another: Boom! Boom! Boom! Until they could no longer count for so many had crashed. Cedric had asked her if she loved him as many times as the waves crashed. She assured him that she did.
Now she cried as many times as the waves crashed.
"Cedric," she spoke to the heavens, "These things alone, which were reminders of our love when you were here, are now reminders of my grief. They alone can show it, can number it. Only by counting them can you know." She waited, have expectantly, to see if there would be any answer, something said by someone that would cure her grief.
And there was silence.
