There Is No Arizona, Not For Kel
By: Writin' Wildcat
A/N: I know this is pretty OOC, but it's a cool song, and I REALLY don't like the idea of Kel and Joren together. This is my retaliation for those of you who think they'd be "cute" together.
Disclaimer: I don't own There is No Arizona (which appears inside **); that belongs to Jamie O'Neal. The characters aren't mine either; =( Tamora Pierce made them. I guess the only thing that's mine is the adjectives and a couple of the verbs. ;o)

Joren kissed her forehead. "I'm gonna be gone for a while. I'll set up a new fief for us in the South. Then I'll send for you and we can start our life together."
Kel smiled. "Just don't take too long. I'll be counting the days till we can be together."
"Trust me," he said with that sparkle in his eye that made her love him, "It'll be worth it."
**He Promised her a New and better life out in Arizona
underneath the blue never endin' sky,
swore that he was gonna get things in order,
he'd send for her
when he left her behind it never crossed her mind **
**There is no Arizona
No Painted Desert, No Sedona,
If there was A Grand Canyon
She could fill it up with the lies he's told her,
but they don't exist, those dreams he sold her
She'll wake up and find there is no Arizona. **
Three months later a courier arrives delivering a message addressed to Keldry:
Sorry, love. I still haven't found a place to settle yet. By the time you get this I'll probably be looking in the west. Don't bother trying to send me a message, it would be nearly impossible for a messenger to find me.
I know I'm way behind schedule, we were supposed to have started construction already, but I want to find a place that's absolutely perfect. Just like you.
Love,
Joren
**She got a postcard with no return address, postmarked Tombstone
It said I don't know where I'm goin' next,
but when I do I'll let ya know
May, June, July she wonders why she's still waiting
She'll keep waiting 'cause**
**There is no Arizona
No Painted Desert, No Sedona,
If there was A Grand Canyon
She could fill it up with the lies he's told her,
but they don't exist, those dreams he sold her
She'll wake up and find there is no Arizona.**
Kel stands on a balcony looking at the sunset. It's beautiful, the way the pinks and blues blend through the sky, but she can't enjoy it. She's still alone.
"No word from him yet, eh Kel?"
A small smile, "No, Neal. No word."
"He's been gone a good six months. He must have found a place by now!"
The smile disappears.
Cleon arrives on the scene, "Yeah, Kel, I bet it's all set up and every thing!"
Tears start to fill her eyes.
"When ARE you planning on leaving this old palace, and heading for your new place"
"I'M NEVER LEAVING! THERE IS NO NEW PLACE! NO HOME TO GO TO!" She runs from the room tears pouring down her face.
**Each day the sun sets into the west,
her heart sinks lower in her chest,
and friends keep askin' when she's goin',
Finally she tells them
Don't you know **
**There is no Arizona
No Painted Desert, No Sedona,
If there was A Grand Canyon
She could fill it up with the lies he's told her,
but they don't exist, those dreams he sold her
She'll wake up and find there is no Arizona.**
Kel lies in her bedroom. Alone. Crying herself to sleep.
**He promised her a new and better life, out in Arizona.**
