Fading Reflection:
A Mikage Poem

Sometimes I wonder
If shadows can die.
Will light really bring justice
Or just more pain?
Why must it hurt?
Can't life just be happy?
You always smile
Yet you seem so sad.
Are you lonely sitting there?
You're without a match.
You have no shadow.
No reflection mirrors you.
You seem so plain
Yet you're so complex.
People can relate
To the kindness you show,
To the love you give,
To the emotions you feel.
A power inside me calls,
An ice inside me chills,
A fire inside me burns,
And they all say one word.
No.
Power, ice, and fire are strong,
But my soul is stronger.
As I walk to the water's edge,
I notice your reflection.
I pick up one of those smooth, round stones.
You loved to skip stones.
I throw it across the lake.
Startled, your reflection vanishes.
Much like yourself.
You slowly fade away.
But I won't let you go,
They'll have to take me with you!
