Summary: Catie and Jamie spend some quality time in dention
Author's Notes: This is my very first In a Heartbeat story. If
anyone reading this waches JAG, I put Harm as Catie's dad and
Mac as her stepmom. Also I put Meg as Jamie's mom. I'm not
sure if I stayed in character, but I tried.
Adventures in Dention
Catie Roth walked into detention and sat down next to her
friend Jamie Watie, " What are you in for?" she asked him.
"The usual," he replied.
" And that is…" Catie prompeted
" The usual," he said flatly.
" Whatever," she said wonering why guys were so clueless
"What did you do?" he asked her.
" I made a polical statement in English by firing a stapler in
the ciling," she said
" I take it the teacher didn't appercate this,"
" No, she didn't, and called my dad and me explain what I
did,"
" How did your dad react," Jamie said assuming Catie was
grounded for the rest of her life.
" Pretty well. He said he had done the same thing in court
once,"
" Your dad fired a stapler in court?"
"No, James. He fired a gun off. Anyway he was able to
convince the higher powers to let me off with a dention instead of
a suspendion,"
" I guess it pays to have a lawyer father,"
"I guess so,"
"Let me tell you it's not fun to have a mom who's a lawyer
and in the navy,"
"Okay, then. It's defiantly not fun to have a dad who's the
JAG, and a stepmom who's an ex-marine and a lawyer,"
"Your parents are separated?"
" Yeah they've been since my brother, Tom, was born 15
years ago,"
"My parents separated when I was 6 and havn't seen my dad
since,"
"I live with my dad. I used to live with my mom, but I didn't
get along with her new husband,"
"Luckly I don't have that problem,"
" Lucky you. I don't mind my stepmom, my stepsisters, or
my halfbrothers. It's my brother I have the problem with,"
" I know what you mean I don't have the best releionship
with Peter the Perfect. Actually, I don't know if you could call
what we have a releionship a relionship,"
" Tom just fights with everyone, even Gabby and she's deaf,"
" Gabby's your stepsister?"
" Yeah, she's the same age as I am. Carrie, my other
stepsister is 13, and my halfbrothers, Harm and Matt, are 3."
"Wow! That's a lot of people,"
" I know and we all live in a 3 bedroom house,"
They spent the rest of detention discussing lip gloss, Star
Trek, and why apple cores float. After the teacher dismissed them,
Catie watched as Jamie walked away.
