A Sad December

For the past hundred years, the person known as Harry Potter had
been headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. But
he had never let the event of his youth interfere with what he was
doing. He was almost one hundred twenty years old. He was ready to
die. He missed his friends. They had been dead for these past hundred
years. They had committed suicide when they were seventeen because
Voldemort had taken over the world and they didn't want to have to
watch it and live it. So much for Gryffindor bravery...

Dancing babes, fainted wings,
Things I almost remember
And the song someone sings
Once upon a December

As he walked the halls, Harry saw new portrait and old ones. His mind
drifted back across the years to the last Christmas he'd spent with Ron
and Hermione. They were all gathered around in the common room.
drinking butterbeer and giving gifts. The two of them entwined in each
others arms...

Someone holds me safe and warm
Horses branch through a silver storm
Figures dancing gracefully
Across my memory

It was as if they knew it would be the end. The end of their lives as
they knew it. A rage filled Harry as he stood there looking at one of
the newer painting. How could they just go and do something like that?!
If they had waited only ten years. Ten years...

Far away, long ago
Glowing dim as an ember
Things my heart used to know
Things it yearns to remember

Then the memories came in drowning flood. The way he'd found them
the day before graduation. Blood flowed over the side of the bed. It
was so horrible the Harry had almost blocked it from his memory. He'd
been so racked with grieve at first that now he was sure that that was
the reason he was able to kill Voldemort completely. Harry had killed
the inhuman side of him when he had seen what fear could do.

And a song
Someone sings

And now as he stood there in that corridor, he remembered the way
Hermione, Ron, and himself had sat around singing Christmas carols...

Once upon a December

a/n: It all belongs to JKR. The song's not mine. Now, go review this and if you liked it, go
