Forever
by Gem

She held him in her arms, not willing to let go, not again. Stroking his hair, soft and glistening between her fingers, she began to hum her favourite song, *their* song. The beautiful melody reminding her of all that was young and innocent. Or rather, naive and stupid. But she was making up for that now, she had to. He had loved her, even when no-one else did. He never wanted anything more, not gropes in the darkness or fumbles in a back seat, he saw beyond her physical form and childish fantasies. He saw her.

Then it was over. But they were only words! Nothing, just a few lines memorised by a silly child. She couldn't even get them right, always forgot the same line, except when.... Why did she have to remember it then?

Feeling him shift under her, she stroked his hair soothingly. He was beautiful, even now. She forgave him for never coming back, for ignoring her cries and her plees; she forgave him even though he was supposed to take her away and make her his forever! But that was in the past. Everything was perfect now. Together, forever.

Contented, she held him tighter as he tossed and turned, his face flush from his recent excertions. Now she finally had him. All those dark years of waiting, hoping. Now he lay beside her. Wrapping her legs around his she took in his scent, still the same after all that time. His face bore no signs of age, his beauty had not wiltered. Whilst a fifteen year old body now gave way to one ten years older, ten years wiser. But being with him reminded her of that girl, the one who went missing a long time ago. No milk carton could help her get innocence back, only him.

Mopping beads of sweat from his brow she silently thanked the heavens she was given this second chance, even if he had been reluctant at first. She knew it was only bitterness at her first rejection. No never meant no, not with him. Now he understood, he had finally seen it her way; at last he had forgiven her.

Leaning down closer she planted a soft kiss on his pale lips. His struggle was over, now he lay relaxed in her arms. Just as it should be, just as it should always have been. She loosened her arm from around his neck, kissing the violet tinged flesh as she did so, and sat up beside the body. Pulling it from between them she stared into it's centre, a spherical reality. Transfixed in it's delicate beauty she turned her head slightly and gazed into it. Within a second she was laying besides him, a smile formed on her lips. Together, forever.

She held him in her arms, not willing to let go, never again.
