Ami Mononoke: Prolouge

"Jen, I need that kid. We can't last much longer without a princess." Moro looked deep into the eyes of the half wolf half dog in front of her. "I give you until the end of the week, and if you don't show up, I will be forced to take the matters in my own paws."
"Yes Moro." Jen bowed her head to the wolf god. She had never had any clue how she got had mixed up into this mess. But more clearly, she didn't know how she was going to tell Washu and Tenchi that the would have to give up their child. It was going to be tough, but Ami had been elected to become the next Princess Mononoke. Jen turned and walked out of Moro's cave onto the cliff overlooking the forest.
"What did our mother say to you?" One of Moro's children asked.
"That she wants the child by the end of this week." Jen took a deep breath and lept from the cliff. She jumped a few more times and found herself running through the forbidden forest. Jen found her way home and wen tdown into Washu's lab.
"Washu? Tenchi?" Jen called out.
"In here doggy." Washu responded from her bedroom. Jen nudged the door open and went up to Washu's bed. Tenchi sat next to Washu and they were both playing with Ami. Maiaka sat staring at a tv in awe. Washu and Tenchi both looked up as Jen pushed the door closed.
"I have something I need to tell you. And you aren't going to like it."
"But Jen, How could they have chose her out of all kids?" Tenchi asked when Jen was finished explaining.
"She was the only child they could find that was like their last princess, San. So they chose her."
Washu was beyond words. She just clung onto her sleeping child.
"How can I let my baby go?" She questioned. No one responded.
"When do they want her?" Tenchi asked.
"This Friday."
Jen exited the room and went outside. She slept down by the lake, her thoughts running through her head.

Friday came by quickly, and Washu took Ami out of her bed and wrapped her in a blanket. The three year-old looked sleepily at her mother.
"Where are we going Mommy?" She asked.
Washu didn't answer, but gave her to Tenchi.
"Are you ready?" Jen asked, coming to the door.
"As ready as we will ever be." Tenchi replied grimly.
Jen led them through the Forbidden Forest to the agreed meeting spot. Moro and her children were waiting. Washu sat down on a rock and started singing a lullaby to Ami. She sat her child down and turned and ran out of the forest.
"Promise me you'll take care of her." Tenchi asked Moro.
"I will raise her as my own with the help of Jen." Moro growled and picked up Ami. Tenchi turned and left, not taking one look back. Moro led the rest of them to the cave, where she layed Ami down. Jen yawned and layed down. Over the starry sky the Night Crawler watched over everything.
"I'll have to get used to living in the wild again." Jen pointed out and fell asleep.

The next morning Ami woke to a cool, damp breeze. She yawned and rubbed her eyes, still half asleep.
"Huh? Where am I? Where's my mommy? Jen!!" Ami started crying, looking around at her surroundings. Jen rolled over and continued sleeping. Ami's cries attracted Moro, who came into the cave to see what was going on. "Please don't eat me!" Ami cryed out to Moro.
"Eat you? I won't eat you." Moro laughed. "You better get used to it out here child."
