Hermione was excited! Harry had asked her to go shopping in Hogsmeade with him. It was a few days before Valentine's Day and she hoped he wanted to pick out a present for her---maybe even tell her the feelings he had been hiding so long.
She'd told a few of her friends about the upcoming shopping trip and her hopes.
Most wished her well. Lavender kept silent. She couldn't bear to tell her friend about the rumors she'd heard about Harry's having found his true love. She'd overheard him talking to Seamus and Seamus had teased him about being a virgin. Harry had told him "not anymore!". But Harry hadn't divulged his lover's name. No one could figure out whom he had been seeing, but it sure wasn't Hermione!
Harry and Herm set out for their day of shopping. Harry made small talk and Hermione was as pleasant as possible. They bought some candy at Honeydukes and had a butterbeer, then headed down the street.
Harry stopped at a jewelry store.
"Herm , would you mind waiting outside? I have an important purchase to make. "
"Sure, Harry"
Hermione's heart skipped a beat. He was going to buy her jewelry!
In just over thirty minutes , Harry was out with a small bag.
"Let's go over and see what new books and magazines are out!" he suggested.
"Sure" she agreed.
When they got the magazine and book store, Hermione said she's like to sit in the sun, for Harry to go on in. She offered to hold his packages. He agreed.
As soon as Harry was out of sight, Hermione opened the bag. A small card, in the shape of a heart, was attached to a velvet box.
"Just a token of my love, for the one I have waited so long to find." it read.
She opened the box. A beautiful silver and black only ring shined out at her. It seemed a bit large for her small hands, but she'd love anything Harry gave her. She quickly closed the box and put everything in the bag as it had been.
They made their way back to Hogwart's , talking about their various classes.
All the while, Hermione was wondering when Harry would give her the ring.
First thing in the morning on Valentine's day, Harry presented Ron, Ginny, and Hermione with packages wrapped in red. They tore them open. Ron got some magazines and sports memorabilia. Ginny and Hermione got heart-shaped boxes of candy and the latest Teen Witch magazines. Hermione was puzzled. Maybe he give her the ring tonight.
The lot were in Potion's class listening to Snape drone on about the wonders of beetle wings. Hermione looked across to room and gasped. Her heart shed silent tears as it broke. The ring was on Draco Malfoy's finger!
