GRAVESIDE SERVICE by Dracos_Lady

A/N: My first Hp fanfic. Short and not so sweet. Harry is 17 in this fic.

I have some longer works in progress.

Harry's friends stood to the side, far back from the grave. This was a journey Harry would have to make alone. Harry walked slowly to the freshly covered grave , a bouquet of flowers in his trembling hands. He knelt down in the dirt and spoke to the headstone.

"I'm so sorry I wasn't there when you needed me." Tears ran freely down his cheeks.

"You were always there for me, so loyal and true. And----and I thought you'd always be there! I thought we'd be thought after graduation and many year to come!" he continued slowly.

"ILoved you! I never told you, but I did. I hope you knew. "

Harry thought of all the times he'd shared with her and how many opportunities he'd had to tell her he loved her. Why hadn't he? Now it was too late. Her ears were now unhearing.

"And the way you died...I just wish I could have been there to hold you!"

Harry thought of the waste. If she'd been killed by Voldemort or in some battle it might have been easier to accept. But to be caught out in a storm ----and struck by lightning! How horrid! No one knew how long her burned and broken body lay in the mud before she was found. Harry was wracked with sobs, thinking of it.

Harry laid the flowers on the grave and got up.
"I hope wherever you are you can hear me and know how much I loved you and will miss you. And I hope you know that I'm taking care of your children. Good-bye, dear friend."

Harry walked back toward his friends, and they hurried to him.
The four owlets they had been holding fluttered to Harry, their caretaker.
Harry now had one owlet on his head, one on each shoulder and one in his hand.

Perched on St. Peter's shoulder, Hedwig hooted in happiness. Yes, she's always known Harry loved her. And she knew her children couldn't have a better owner!
