This is just a short, cute fic that popped into my head. Hope you like it :)

"Hey, Miranda!" Declan said as he walked into her lab.

Miranda looked up to see Declan standing in the doorway with a little brown puppy in his arms. She gave him a confused look.

"A while back, Mole decided to ... have a little fun with a female friend of his," Declan started to explain, "and his friend's owner gave me this little guy, and I don't really know what to do with him, so ..." he trailed off with a hopeful expression on his face.

Miranda gave him a glare that clearly stated 'no way'.

"Come on, Miranda," Declan protested, "he's already been potty trained ... sort of ... but he should be fine, as long as you walk him every day, and besides," he said, walking up to her and holding the puppy up, "how can you say no to this face?"

Miranda wasn't quite sure whether he meant the puppy's or his own because both faces were equally impossible. "All right," she conceded.

Declan grinned, "Thanks," he said, putting the puppy in Miranda's arms, "I'll be back in a second," he went out the door.

Miranda took a look at the tiny creature that was now sitting in her lap. He had already developed his father's scraggly coat and pointed ears, but he was a darker color, more of a mahogony, and Miranda had a feeling that this dog wouldn't have a Virgin Mary-shaped mole.

Declan came back into the room carrying a bag of puppy chow. "I don't have any use for it anymore. I don't think Mole will eat it." He put the bag on the floor by her chair, "I gotta go now,"

Miranda nodded and turned her attention back to the puppy, who was now fast asleep on her lap.

Miranda was in her apartment, sitting on a couch, staring at the little dog from across the room. This had been going on for about a half-hour and she still had no idea what to name the little runt.

'Mole jr.' was too unimaginitive.

'Jake' wouldn't work for the same reason.

Maybe a normal guys' name ... like 'Ben' or 'Frank'. Okay, she could probably think up a better name than that, but she might end up going that way ...

The puppy's brown coat caught her eye. Maybe 'Mahogany'? No, that wouldn't work. Who names a dog after a color? Besides, she would have to call 'Here Mahogany!', and the best nickname she could think up was 'Hogy'.

Back to normal guys' names.

'Ian'? Nope.

'Roger'? No way.

'Vernon'? Were in the world did that one come from?

'Gabriel'?

'Gabriel' ...

Miranda looked at the dog again and then called, "Here, Gabriel!".

Of course, he just sat there and gave her a questioning look.

"Come on, Gabriel," she said, patting the place next to where she was sitting on the couch.

Now this was something he could understand. Gabriel got up from the place he was sitting and walked cautiously toward Miranda. Then he tried to jump up on the couch, but he was too tiny.

Miranda picked him up and set him down beside her, scratching the spot behind his ears.

Maybe this could actually work.
