The Little Sacrifice

By Race Baj

The cold wind blew hard down the street, the hustle and bustle of all the people made quite a loud noise that December day. Amongst the crowd a little boy stood, shivering. He was poorly dressed and looked like he had never had a decent meal in his life. He walked down the street and tried to keep his balance as all the people around bumped into him.

He walked on for a long while until he came to an alleyway he was about to step into it when he felt a hand on his shoulder.

"Excuse me young lad." The man who grabbed the boy's shoulder said.

"Y-yes sir?" The boy coughed out as he seemed very ill.

"That book your carrying, what is it?"

"It's the bible sir, a really nice man gave it to me."

"Well, how about I give you some money for it."

"No sir, I don't want to sell it."

"How about 10 cents."

"I told you sir, I don't want to."

"Hmm, how about 2 dollars?" The boy looked thoughtful, that was a lot of money.

"No sir, I need the book." The man laughed, what do you need a lousy book for.

"Well sir, its food."

"What!?! You eat the book?"

"No sir, its my spiritual food."

"Come on now, you really don't believe that, do you?"

"Yes sir, I want to go to sleep now." The boy then walked into the ally, the man just shook his head and walked away.

That same boy walked along the street the next day. A smile crossed his face when he saw a shiny nickel sitting in the snow. He looked around, no one was looking for it, but he wanted to make sure. He picked it up and walked over to a book stand.

"Excuse me mister, did you drop a nickel?"

"No I didn't, if somebody did, the probably would be long gone by now, you should take it, looks like you need it."

"Ok sir." The boy said happily as he ran off. He walked up to a bakery and hopped inside. The smell filled his nostrils. "Mister." The boy started. "I would like to buy six donuts please."

"Ok," The man replied as he got them. "Here you go."

"Thanks mister." The boy said, handing him the nickel. The boy ran outside and started eating one of the delicious breads. He smiled happily but then he saw 2 little boys, and 3 little girls, who looked hungry, cold, and thirsty. The boy looked at them and smiled. He ran up and handed each boy and girl a donut. All of the kids faces brightened and smiled at the kind hearted little boy. The little boy the hopped away.

The little boy woke up the next morning his stomach ached. He knew what was wrong with him, so he gave the biggest smile that was thought possible, then the little kind hearted boy died of starvation.

The little boy opened his eyes, he looked around. Ahead of him was a big gate, and in front of it was a man, shining brighter then the sun. The boy smiled and ran to the man. When the boy reached him he jumped into the mans arms, and the man began twirling him around, the boy and the man started laughing. The man then put the boy down, and grabbed his hand. The boy's torn and ripped clothes, turned into shining garments of pure white. The boy and the man walked into the gate smiling happily, and the boy knew, that the man's smile meant, he would never be sitting in a dark ally alone, anymore.

A/N: ok as you have most likely guessed the man at the end was Jesus, also this is set a long time ago, around the early 1900s, this was to show that the boy's devoutness to Jesus gave him a life time of happiness, and that even when you seem to have nothing, like faith, you have everything.
