I wrote this in response to a friend, who after borrowing my copy of The Tenth Kingdom asked me "Is the sequel out yet?"
To which I answered "What sequel?" She reminded me that at the very end of the movie, Virginia referred to a crisis that would bring them back to the Fourth Kingdom. I had just finished reading the book (After watching the movie) which didn't say that, so I was confused for a minute. When I remembered I told her that the movie had just came out, but hopefully the sequel would come soon. Then I decided 'What the heck, I might as well write it myself.' So here it is, the sequel to the Tenth Kingdom. Thank you Jessyca.
"Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you! Happy Birthday dear Christopher, Happy Birthday to you."
Five year old Christopher smiled happily and blew out the candles on his birthday cake, which happened to be in the shape of a lamb. He then began to eat ravenously, devouring the entire cake within minutes. His father Wolf, did the same with a cake he'd baked just for himself. Virginia, his mother, and Tony, his grandfather, just shook their heads and ate some ice cream. When the doorbell rang, Virginia got up to answer it.
To her surprise, the person standing at the door was dressed almost medievally (Authors note: Sorry, spell check won't tell me how to spell that, and I'm too lazy to find a dictionary), just like the people from the Nine Kingdoms, where her husband came from. He said "Virginia! Thank goodness I found you. This city is so…"
"Huge? I know. Come in, do you have news from the Kingdoms?"
The man walked in and the entire group gathered around to listen. "His Royal Highness King Wendell of the House of White has vanished!"
"Oh no," Tony groaned.
"Are you sure he didn't turn into a dog again?" Wolf asked sympathetically. He hadn't liked Wendell when he first met him because of the fact that he was a dog, but now that he was human and had awarded him a pardon for wolves in his kingdom he had started to like the guy.
"We've checked every dog in the kingdom, and we're sure they're nothing but dogs. In fact, we've checked everything and everywhere in the kingdom. One thing is for certain, the King in nowhere in the Fourth Kingdom."
"What do you think we can do?" Virginia asked.
"We don't know, but you helped so much the last time something like this happened, so I was told to find you three."
They all looked at each other. "Its about time Christopher gets to see the land his father came from. I wouldn't mind seeing it again myself," Wolf said.
Tony said, "We didn't exactly try to help last time."
"But we did anyway. And Wendell deserves our help. I say we do it," Virginia decided.
"Follow me," the messenger said. They walked into the forest (Central Park of course) and found the shimmering of air that showed the presence of a magic mirror. All five of them stepped through, abandoning the birthday party for something much more exciting and dangerous. No one knew that someone else had seen the shimmering as well, and decided to explore it. No one but the mirror himself, and he wasn't telling.
Disclaimer: I don't own Tony, Virginia, Wolf, Wendell, the magic mirror, or the Kingdoms. I don't know who owns Christopher, so I'll put it this way: Kathryn Wesley owns his conception and existence, and I own his name and personality. I own the messenger, and Central Park belongs to whoever owns those kinds of things. Is that enough?
