The Flower Festival
"Briiiiiiing!" rang my alarm clock at 6am sharp. Yawning and stretching, I got out of bed. Glancing at my calendar, I noticed a flower on the 23rd of Spring – today.
"Gyaah!" I thought, "Today's the flower festival? Did I vote for the Goddess?" I thought a moment, "Yes, I voted for Karen on the 19th. Okay."
Quickly swallowing three donuts/rice cakes, I raced outside. After filling my watering can at my ranch's well, I watered my lettuce patch and potato patch. Epona, my horse, galloped up to me just as I finished my chores.
"Hi Epona!" I said, stroking her. "You're looking good today!" I grinned. A heart appeared over Epona's head.
Finally, I raced toward Lon Lon Ranch's gate, nearly tripping over my dog Minnie on the way. I gave her a hug. "How are you Minnie?" I asked. She barked in reply. Setting her down and patting her head, I left the ranch.
As I raced through town, I checked my watch. "12:00 already?" I pondered aloud, "Where did those past six hours go?"
Noise ahead jerked me out of my thoughts. I had reached the stairs that led to the town square, where the festival was being held. I climbed the staircase and gazed around the square. Flowerpots decorated almost every free space. Popuri's mother sold flowers on a carpet nearby. Mayor stood near the fountain and little kids played tag. A young girl with pink pigtails exclaimed, "Wow! It smells so good!"
Suddenly, a bugle call was heard. "Make way for the Goddess of the Flower Festival!" announced Mayor. Ann, Popuri, Maria, and Elli entered in matching dresses. They threw handfuls of flower petals in the air and stood in the square. Finally, the Goddess made her dramatic entrance. It was Karen! Her chestnut-colored hair shone in the sunset light. She wore a crown of flowers and a goddess costume. Grinning and blushing, she walked towards the fountain while everyone applauded. After Ann, Elli, Maria, and Popuri gave everyone each a rose, the band began to play the festival song. It was a tradition to ask someone to dance the traditional Flower Dance with you. I took a deep breath and walked over to Karen. Looking in to her green eyes, I handed her a rose.
"Wi- wi- will you d- d- ance with m- m- me?" I stammered, blushing as red as rose was.
"Sure!" agreed Karen. She took my hand and led me to the center of the square…
When I finally got home that night, I scribbled the day's events in my diary. I concluded the entry with:
