The wind blew through the open shutters sending in a chilly night breeze. Sixteen-year-old Keladry of mindelan got up to close the shutters. She sighed as a sheet of white outside her windows met her eyes. It had snowed. She sighed again as she thought of Nealan of Queenscove, her best friend and his endless opinions of snow. Along with his endless opinions to everything, Kel thought.
Kel was starting to get confused, she seemed to be starting to have feelings for Neal. Her skin tingled when he touched her, her stomach fluttered when he spoke to her...the list was endless. He was five years older than her which wasn't a lot unless you looked at it from the fact she was in her teens and he, in his early twenties.
I can't POSSIBLY like Neal for anything more than a friend, could I? Kel thought. I mean he's.....he's Neal.
Someone knocked on her door and she went to open it.
" Neal. What are you doing here at this time?"
" Couldn't sleep. Too cold. So I thought you'll probably be awake so I came. Guess I was right" he grinned. Walking into her room, he left the door open a crack to keep the cold air out. Kel was still not allowed to close the door if she was in the same room as a boy. Kel settled onto her bed pulling her knees close to her body and wrapping the blanket around herself. Neal plopped himself on her bed across her and tugged at the blanket.
" Come on, I'm cold too!" he exclaimed as he pulled the blanket from her.
" Now I know why you're cold, what ARE you wearing?"
Looking at herself Kel remembered she was wearing a rather thin, short cotton nightdress. It was something like an overlarge t-shirt. Grabbing the blanket and pulling it around herself she murmured, " nothing." Suddenly realizing what she had said, she blushed.
" Won't I like to see that." He teased her.
" Not likely" was the retort before Neal leaped to grab her. She danced out of his reach and bounced off the bed and ran. She suddenly found herself facing the wall, she whirled around to see Neal grinning at her as he cornered her. She felt her heart beating really fast as he got nearer and nearer until he was barely 4 inches away. He raised his hand and tilted her face up to his with his finger. Now, his face was 2 inches away from hers. Kel's heart was now thumping triple times its speed. Neal looked deep into Kel's eyes and without breaking his eye contact, he stroked her cheek with the same finger.
Goddess, she's beautiful. He thought. Why haven't I noticed it before?
Closing the gap between them, he kissed her lightly. Kel was surprised but found herself responding to the kiss. Pleased with her response, Neal deepened the kiss and started to kiss her passionately. They broke apart for a moment to breathe and kissed again. This time, as Neal put his hands on her waist, Kel's hands found their way up to his hair. Kel opened her mouth a bit and he took the opportunity to gently slide his tongue into her mouth. His tongue danced around her mouth as they kissed passionately. Finally, they broke apart.
" God, Kel, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done that. I had no right to." Neal searched her face worriedly with his eyes. And to assure him, Kel raised her head and kissed him.
" Sorry for what? You did me no wrong."
Grinning like a Cheshire cat, he said, " I love you."
"And I, love you too. You better go." With that, she pushed him towards the door.
