Quickwrite #1- An alternate ending to The Telltale Heart
Rating: PG-13, because, well, it's The Telltale Heart
Summary: What if the police never came?
Disclaimer: The Telltale Heart belongs to the successor of the late Edgar Allan Poe (I presume)

When I made an end of these labors, it was four o clock- still dark as midnight. As the bell sounded at the hour...

(A/N I can't write like Poe, I'm not going to try)

I looked nervously around the room. The silence was deafening. It was over, I realized. the eye would never haunt me again. I decided to go back to sleep, pretend I didn't know anything. After all, I thought the old man was asleep.
The second the clock struck 4:30, I sat up, panicking. It was as if an alternate spirit took over my body. I began to scream, as the heartbeat got louder and louder. The eye. It was there. I could feel it's presence. The icy hands dropped onto my neck. My scream was forever silenced. I may be here, but where I came from, the eye will live forever.
