Hi! This is my first fanfic, so please tell me what I did wrong, what I did right, etc...
Disclaimer: I do not own the Night World, Hunter Redfern, or Maya. Stormy's mine, but I don't care if anyone uses her. Not that anyone'd want to.

Stormy Winters walked slowly across the room, her long golden-brown hair falling in thick curls down her back. She dreaded every step, knowing that they brought her closer to judgment. She reached the impressive oak table that the Council sat at, staring at her impassively. She was terrified, afraid that any movement might further incriminate her, that any sound might make her punishment more severe.
Stormy had broken one of the laws, the BIG one, when she told a human, vermin, about the Night World. She had also broken the other big one, because she knew that she loved Billy. But that was not important. What was important was that now she had to pay the price of her actions, event though she did not regret them. Hunter Redfern had told her that Billy had died, most likely tortured to death, at the beginning of the trial.
Stormy was shocked out of her reverie by Maya's low, husky voice.
"Stormy Rose Winters, Lamia, has been accused of telling a human about the Night World. How do you plead?" Maya's voice was completely impassive and neutral, and Stormy realized for the first time that she was nothing to these people, just another random case, accused of a crime. That they didn't care that her life was over, or the lives they might be destroying with their judgment, or anything else about her. She was nothing.
"I plead guilty." Stormy murmured to the Council, her voice betraying the anguish she was feeling. "What happened to Billy?"
"The vermin? He died, although not peacefully, I'm afraid." Maya answered, amusement filling her voice. Stormy was suddenly struck by the magnitude of her situation. Billy was dead, because of her, and had died in agony, and now she realized she would probably die in the same manner. Everything she had ever done, experienced, felt, would all disappear. Lamia didn't get reborn, and who knew if they were allowed any sort of afterlife? She had only been here twenty-five years, and now it would all just stop.
" We have reached a decision." Hunter Redfern announced. His golden hawk's eyes gleamed with pleasure as he announced, " Stormy Rose Winters is to be put to death immediately by a wooden stake through the heart."
The words seemed to echo through Stormy's had. Immediately? She would not get to see her family again, say good-bye to her friends, have one last meal? The guards moved in closer, and grabbed her by the arms. She was dragged to the back of the room, and one of the guards produced a stake from nowhere, or so it seemed. Stormy's senses barely registered the pain of having her hands cuffed above her head.
"Final words?" The guard NOT holding a stake asked.
"You will regret this. I will be avenged." Stormy's threat was barely more than a whisper, and her voice cracked on the last part. But the white-hot rage she now felt instead of the numbness that had possessed her since her arrest was evident. "I will be avenged!" The last words were a semi-desperate shriek, cut off by the searing pain of the wood stake impaling her heart, poisoning her blood.
Stormy died, in agony and undignified, in the back of the Night World courtroom.
