Special Delivery
by Estrellita, aka Erin Kaye Hashet
I was on the other side of town when I got the phone call.
She's having the baby.
A million thoughts exploded through my mind when I heard. But above all, I thought, I have to get to the hospital.
Which, of course, was on the other side of town.
And rush hour impending.
Twenty minutes later I was literally screaming at the top of my lungs. By then I had barely moved an inch.
While she was having the baby.
Our baby.
As I crawled along in traffic- I think at about the thirty-first red light- my thoughts started to turn.
I'm going to be a daddy.
Wow. So many emotions went through me when she told me she was pregnant. At first I was terrified. What do I know about raising kids? Oh, sure, I mean, I love kids, but a father? Me?
But I saw how excited and happy she was, and soon I got excited and happy along with her.
God, she looks so cute now. So fat, with a little baby growing inside of her.
What will the baby look like? Will it look like me? I hope not. I hope, whether it's a girl or a boy, that it's beautiful like her. That it has her gorgeous red hair, her creamy white skin and her piercing eyes. What an adorable baby that would be.
It seemed like forever, but I finally reached the hospital. I checked my watch. Has she had the baby yet? I wondered. My child can't have been born without me there!
The nurse sent me to the maternity wing. I ran into the elevator, my foot tapping impatiently as it ascended. Don't let me be too late…don't let me be too late…
I found the room where Dana Scully was and dashed in. There she was, sitting in the bed. Another man was in the room with her, and she had a little bundle in her arms.
"Dana!" I gasped, bending down to kiss her on the lips. "Dana, I'm so sorry- I tried to get here, but I was stuck in traffic and-"
The joyous smile on her face told me that she forgave me. "Say hi to Stevie," she said, looking at the baby in her arms.
"You named him Steve?!" I exclaimed.
"It's a good, honest name," she replied, smiling. She looked over at the other man in the room. He was a tall, gangly fellow with light brown hair, and he had been watching us incredulously. "Mulder," she said to him, "you've met Steve Johnson, haven't you?"
"Your pizza guy?!" the other man- Mulder?- cried out.
"Not just my pizza guy," she replied, grinning at me. "He's also little Stevie's father."
"THE PIZZA GUY IS YOUR BABY'S FATHER?!" he yelped.
"Of course!" she answered. "Who did you think it was, you?"
Mulder's head dropped down. He turned and started to leave the room, shaking his head in disbelief. "I was right," he said, half to himself. "I can't believe it, I was right!"
Author's Notes:
Surprised? Believe me, so was I. I can't believe I wrote a story like this- I'm a die-hard shipper! If any of you are offended by this story, please don't be! It's not meant to be taken seriously. It was just an idea I had and couldn't shake, so I had to write it down. Also, in case you didn't get it (my sister didn't), Steve the pizza guy is the one telling the story the whole way through. Please review, now!
