Disclaimer: I don't own the song "On my Own" the person who wrote it does. Nor do I own anything related to Les Miserable, the story or play. That belongs to Victor Hugo and that other dude who's name escapes me now. However I do own the story revolving around in the text below. So don't steal it, mkay?
Rating: G. No cursing or violence or hot steamy sex.
Feedback: Yes please. You can flame me if you want, I don't care. I don't listen to that stuff anyway. Nor do I delete it. I'll let everyone else see your ignorance. So there.
Authors Note: This is my very first song fic. It's harder than I thought it would be! The lyrics might be a little off with the story. If there's anything I can do to make this better, please let me know. I know I could probably go into more detail, but do I need to? Or would that mess it up?
Summary: Uh, I don't know. It's just a little fic about a hopeless chick in love with someone she can't have.

As she walked down the hallway she saw him standing outside of the classroom. His chesnut brown hair shining, even in the dull light of the hall. He was leaning against the lockers and all the girls were crowded around him. Fighting for his attention.

"On my own, pretending he's beside me. All alone, I walk with him till morning..."

Her heart beat faster as she approached. She imaginged herself standing next to him, looking deep into his sparkling blue eyes. All the girls would envy her, and try to take him away. He would be only hers.

"Without him, I feel his arms around me. And when I lose my way I close my eyes and he has found me..."

She dreamed every night that he would realize how much in love with him she was. How much she needed him. And he would feel the same. He would rush to her and whisk her away to some remote place...

"In the darkness, the trees are full of starlight, and all I see is him and me forever and forever..."

He would pledge his undying love for her, and smile that amazing smile. She would melt. They would live out their days together as one, and nothing would tear them apart.

"And although I know that he is blind, still I say, 'There's a way for us...'"

But, all of it is false hope. The helplessness of a fool in love. She knew she could never be with him. That he would never want to be with her. She couldn't even get him to smile at her, or even throw a general glance in her direction. How was she going to get him to fall in love with her?

"Without him, the world around me changes. The trees are bare and everywhere the streets are full of strangers..."

When she wasn't able to see him, she felt incomplete. Even knowing that they were in the same building excited her more than she'd ever been. Nobody knew how she felt about him. Not even her friends. If she told and word got out it could ruin everything. Her world would be destroyed if she found out. She would be crushed.

"Without me, this world will go on turning. The world is full of happiness that I have never known..."

He was so above her, in so many ways. He could have anybody he wanted. He wouldn't even notice if she suddenly fell off the earth. Probably wouldn't care. She didn't even know if he knew who she was. There is so much in this world that she wanted to experience. To experience with him. She knew she would never get the chance.

"I love him. I love him. I love him, but only on my own..."

She sucked in her pride and pushed past the crowd to get to class. Someone cut in front of her, causing her to pause. When she looked up he was looking at her. And then he smiled that amazing smile. Her heart melted.
