Georgie mouse was sitting in the observatory, worried that the computers program would not eventually come up with a question. A question. Not even the question any more, if it was the wrong question. His experiments judging the reactions of the silly bipeds in white coats were getting nowhere and he was beginning to wonder whether or not they would find the question in the organic matrix of the computer, even though it was due to be found in a years time.

A young laboratory aid turned on the radio, hoping to alleviate the boredom of her daily job. Georgie mouse usually disliked the radio because the bipeds would be distracted from his subtle attempts at experimentation, but today was different. Today he heard something that gave him hope.

How many roads must a man walk down, before they call him a man

42... of course, How many roads must a man walk down? 42. Could this be the question?

How many seas must a white dove sail, before she sleeps in the sand

Not as good as the first one but another possibility, intrigueing.

How many times must the cannonballs fly, before they are forever banned

We have already done that experiment, nitwit. Don't you know what the two world wars were for. The answer to that one is more than you can make.

The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind

Yes, he could hear it now 42....42...42...

The answer is blowing in the wind

How many years must a mountain exist, before it is washed to the sea

Oh... they had run that one too. A lot more than 42.

How many years can some people exist, before they're allowed to be free

New question!!! Or was it. Must go check the database. He himself had never considered this possibility.

How many times can a man turn his head, and pretend that he just doesn't see

More than 42, they'd also tried that one

The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind

42... 42... 42...

The answer is blowing in the wind

How many times must a man look up, before he can see the sky

38, not 42. What was this?? A lot of the bad questions which had been rejected

How many years must one man have, before he can hear people cry

That was different with each person. Maybe the organic matrix was preparing for the readout??

How many deaths will it take till he knows, that too many people have died

Yes that was it, it was all preparation, the real question would come soon.

The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind

Yes, yes The Question was coming. This was undoubtably a sign, a prophesy. 42... 42... 42

The answer is blowing in the wind

Georgie mouse could now go on . The Question was coming. The computer had just sent him a message. What was more, he could now hear the answer 42... 42... 42...
