Disclaimer: These wonderful characters belong to the great Joss Whedon. Only the Butterfly is my creation.
A/N: Just a silly little fic I thought up after visiting the Natural Science Museum's Butterfly exhibit. Oh, and please be gentle, it's my first time posting my fic :)
Buffy and the Butterfly
"Methinks a butterfly doth sit upon my arm, " Buffy spoke, thus admiring the large blue tinted creature now resting in the middle of her forearm. A breeze gently blew through the surrounding tree leaves as Buffy sat on a bench outside Gile's apartment.
"Thou speakest truthfully my lover, a butterfly doth sit on thine very arm." Angel spake, emerging from darkened shadows to stand beside Buffy in the glean of the porch light."Thy Butterfly hast beauty second only in comparison to thee."
"What Ho, my fair Lady of Buffonia!! Rejoice!! Thy merry compatriots have heard joyous news
and come from yonder to celebrate the butterfly upon thy arm." Willow and Xander approached,
a picnic basket loaded to the gill carried betwixt the twain.
"Oh, oh, Buffy!!! Tis true, tis a truly fine Butterfly upon thine arm!! " Willow exclaimed excitedly, jumping up and down for added emphasis.
"Aye dear friends, rejoicing shall be had by all presently." Buffy smiled, slowly twisting her arm from side to side and watching as light glinted off the Butterfly's wings. "Yea, verily, look you all upon this creature of otherworldliness. Tis by all accounts a thing of beauty upon my arm."
The door to Giles apartment creaked open and a very tired looking Giles materialized beside them in a purple and white bathrobe.
"Ah...Buffy?" Giles interrupted. "what are all of you doing outside my apartment, and why are you talking in bad Shakespearean accents?"
"Shhhh.....Thou shall not disturb yonder fair creature's peaceful slumber." Willow spoke, finger warningly upon her ruby lips.
"Tis by some grand miracle that I, a mere Slayer, came to be walking on such a marvelously fine night, when this very butterfly came and doth alighted upon mine arm." Buffy continued on, oblivious of Gile's approach.
"Buffy, I, ah, think that..."
"Giles!! thou ist spoiling the moment." Xander spoke. "Canst thou not enjoy the pure beauty that hast landed upon her arm?"
Suddenly, the Butterfly shifted it's position on Buffy's arm, two long white fangs emerged from it's mandible.
"Eeep!!" Buffy shrieked and jumped back in surprise.
"Buffy, perhaps you shall listen to me now." Giles said as he handed a toothpick to Buffy. "Your creature of awe and entertainment is actually a rare Vampire Butterfly. I wholeheartedly suggest you stake the thing before it feeds off your arm."
In one fell swoop, Buffy grabbed the toothpick and impaled the evening's diversion, leaving only a minuscule pile of dust. Sheepishly, Buffy turned to Giles. "Thanks. Well, goodnight everyone."
Angel, Buffy, Xander, Willow and Giles all exchanged good evening pleasantries and went off
their separate ways leaving Giles to stand in his doorway, a look of puzzlement upon his face.
"Twas truly a thing of beauty upon mine Slayer's arm. Either that or someone has been tampering with the water supply again." He pivoted, closing the door behind him, and shut the light off.
