AUTHOR'S NOTE:  Although I am posting this under the Books section, the actual story takes place in the musical.  If you are unfamiliar with the musical, I wouldn't worry too much.  The song is the only reference to it I make.  If you are unfamiliar with the book, they why are you here?

[The scene begins in the middle of  "All I Ask of You" with CHRISTINE singing happily.]

CHRISTINE: Say you'll share with me one love, one lifetime… Say the word and I will follow you…

[RAOUL holds up a hand to stop her.]

RAOUL: Ya know… Now that I think about it, you're just asking a little too much of me. So, I think I'll find somebody else.

CHRISTINE: *hurt and confused* What? But, Raoul…

RAOUL: No, I really think it's over, babe. Been fun, but, well… I'm just not ready for commitment.

CHRISTINE: *angrily* Fine! Go! I don't need you! I still have Erik!

[ERIK steps out of the shadows.]

ERIK: Actually, he's making sense. You're just too… needy. I think it would be better for both of us if I became obsessed with a different beautiful opera singer.

[ERIK tries to think of something comforting to say.]

ERIK: It's not you, it's me.

[CHRISTINE runs off crying. ERIK and RAOUL look at each other.]

RAOUL: Wanna go get a beer?

ERIK: Sure.
