Sometimes Forever Takes Time
Angel walked into his office/home and started up the stairs. He got to the fifth step when a voice behind him made him stop and turn around.
"You're back...late," Cordelia said. "How's Buffy?"
"I don't want to talk about it."
"That bad, huh? Come back downstairs and you can tell me about it over a glass of O+."
"I really just want to go to bed."
"You don't sleep."
"Yes, I do."
"Not at 8 PM."
They stared at each other for a minute, then Angel walked back down the stairs. They sat down on the circular couch on the first floor and Angel looked down at his feet. Then he looked back up at Cordy.
"She's a wreak. I wish I had been there for her."
"You were."
"Only days after Joyce died. I should have been there when she found her."
"She'll get through it. What did you do when you got there?"
"I found her standing at Joyce's grave and we sat together and talked."
"I figured you'd be staying longer."
"So did I. I told her I'd stay as long as she needed me."
"And she told you to go?"
"She asked me to stay forever."
"And I see that you didn't take her up on that offer," Cordy said with shock.
"We both decided that would be bad. I wanted to stay though. I didn't ever want to leave; especially after that kiss," he said trailing off.
"Kiss?"
"Yeah. It just happened."
"Wow. I guess Riley's out of the picture."
Angel couldn't help but smile a little. "Guess so."
