Summary: A short piece from Tinga's point of view. She tells of her history from Manticore to the events in "Hit A Sista Back," in terms of the story she told to her son. Angsty.

The Castle
by Raven
~~~~~~~~~~
I am a princess. I lived in a castle. It was made of nightmares.
Long ago, an evil king ruled over my siblings and I. He hurt us and tried to make us into mindless soldiers. He kept ogres in the basment who frightened us when we passed. No princess should be treated so. We all knew it.
So one night we ran away. We dashed through the snow to escape the king. Some of us didn't make it. He and his royal knights shot us down as we raced for the castle gates.
I was one of the lucky ones who made it outside. I separated from my brothers and sisters to try and live a normal life. I would tell no one that I was a princess.
Many years passed before I met a prince. He told me everything about himself. I tried to do the same, but when I saw the way he looked at me, I could not bring myself to admit that I was a princess.... that I was different.
I said I'd tell him someday.
My prince and I had a child. A young prince, too small to comprehend any of the horrors of the world I'd known.
The king had never stopped looking for us. One day, I heard that he had found me. I left my prince and child to hide from him.
One of my sisters came to me. Her good heart had prevailed despite the danger and sent her to help my new family. The king's royal knights fought us, but we managed to get them to safety.
I finally told my prince all about myself. I saw the way he looked at me.
My little child was taken ill. The mark that myself and my siblings bore had appeared on his body, making him sick.
My sister contacted the king. He told us that if I returned to the castle, he would save my son. I agreed. I gave myself up, and he was made better.
But what I didn't know was that the king now had a queen. She betrayed him and killed one of his knights. She tried to kidnap my son, but only succeeding in getting me.
The queen took me back.
Now, encased in a cage of green water, I stare through the glass at her in anger.
I was a princess. I lived in a castle. It is still made of nightmares.
I have returned to stay for all time.
