Patience

BEEP BEEP BEEP BE....

Moaning she hit the alarm (no...sleep...sleep)

BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BE...

(Oh no! late late late...damned alarm, wake me up sooner!) She jumped out of bed, ran downstairs, turned on the coffee machine and raced back upstairs. (Clothes...what to wear? Job interview...ah!) she jumped in the shower, forgetting to turn on the hot water. "AAAAHH!!"

(Coffee...) She gulped it down and ran out the door.

Twenty minutes later she arrived at the front door (Needs a fix-up) and entered. Her eyes needed to adjust to the dim light inside, but once they did she saw him, the owner. "Hi, sorry I'm late, the alarm didn't go off." She said walking up to him.

He looked at her and smiled, "It's okay, don't worry. Now, did you bring your resume?"

(Resume? Resume!) She blushed, "I forgot..." And shuffled her feet. Hearing a stifled laugh behind her she turned. (WOW! Hubba hubba...)

"Hello, I'm Duncan." The handsome man said, offering her his hand.

She stared at it (Nice... Get a grip girl!) Shaking his hand she opened her mouth to speak, but all that came out was a 'I,I,I,I...'. She closed her mouth with an audible 'click' and shook her head. "I'm Patience." (Why did I say that?) She waited for the comments she'd heard every time she'd told someone her name.

"Nice to meet you Patience." Was all he said.

(What? No 'funny' comment?) She scanned his face, trying to find a hint of amusement at her expense. She didn't find it.

Behind her someone cleared his throat, "Mac, if you don't mind, I would like to finish the interview."

(Woops! Forgot about him! Bad girl!) She turned and faced the owner, "I'm sorry, I forgot you were here." As soon as the words left her mouth she wished the ground would open up and swallow her. (Mommy...)

The owner looked at her, then over her shoulder, looking behind her she saw Duncan trying very hard not to burst out into laughter.

"Did I really say that out loud?" She asked, feeling her blush intensify.

"Yes you did." The owner answered her.

She sighed, "I guess I won't be getting that job now, huh?"

"Mike!" The owner shouted over his shoulder, when Mike came up to them he said, "This is Patience, I just hired her. I'm sure she'll do a good job, just keep her away from Mac and she'll be fine."

She couldn't believe her ears; she got the job?

Seeing the disbelieving look on her face the owner smiled at her, "You've got the job, welcome."

As Mike lead Patience to the back, talking and pointing; Duncan turned to Joe, "Are you sure about this? You don't even know her."

Joe sighed, "I know her Mac, I do know her," and stared after her with a wistful look on his face.
