The
Crystal Goblet
The Child in
the Clouds
Lyra lay on
her newly made bed and let her tears drop on the silk pillow that her
head lay on. She seamed to be empty, she hadn't lost pan, for of
course, then she would be dead. No, she had lost something though,
that burst of energy that she used to have every morning upon her
awakening. As she turned to the picture of Iorek more tears were
drawn and her heart, once again, fell. No, she had not lost her
spunk, or her soul, or her smile, she had lost the only person that
she ever felt true love from. Though her tears were certain, her
heart was not. She would find him, no matter how far or high she had
to travel. She got up, grabbed her sack off of the dressing table,
and left the room. She grabbed her battered furs and set out into the
freezing cold, determined to find her Iorek. As she traveled further
she started to feel something nagging at her heart, but this was not
Iorek, it was something else, almost as though she was seeing
something, but what was it? She looked around for clues, and seemed
to find nothing, but something told her to look up. What she saw
almost scarred her to death. She saw the figure of a child. At first
she thought it as an angel, but she had seen one before, and she was
certain this was human. For a short while she could say nothing, only
gaze, astonished at the child, for she was now certain that that was
what it was. Heart pounding and curiosity soaring she attempted to
speak to the child. Almost speechless from shock, the only thing she
could think of asking was "what is your name". To her
surprise, the child spoke, with extreme clarity.
"My name
is Sarah, and you?" "Um, Lyra ... Why are you up there?"
"Oh, yes well, this is how my people have been forced to live
ever since..." "Since what?" "Since the war, you
see, most of my people were killed, and the rest were forced to live
up here, above... well, them. Come on up" As Lyra stepped up to
the cloud she felt a rush of excitement, now, she was speechless.
