my sad little blip, only a page long. Set after #54, it's like a funeral. So just read it, critique it if you want, but I just did this for me.
disclaimer: no, Animorphs are not mine, I never claimed they were, they're K.A.'s. so please no sue me.
They stood beside the ocean, the Animorphs, staring out at the waves rolling relentlessly, pounding into the shore. Through all the strange and weird and terrifying things they'd been through in the last three years, the sameness of the ocean soothed their battered souls. Jake had his arm around Cassie, her head on his shoulder. Ax had a determined stance, but if you looked closely enough you could see the slight droop to his tail and the agony barely visible on the expressionless Andalite face. Marco's smart-aleck smirk had long since disappeared, and the quiet, solemn person he had become seemed out of place. Tobias stood a little apart, hands jammed in his pockets and a gentle ocean breeze ruffled his blond hair. And Rachel...Rachel wasn't there. Rachel would never be there. Never again would they be a group of 6. Now only 5 stood before the wild savageness of the ocean.
So many dead. And so many with memories that made them wish they were dead. So many losses, so many mistakes. They were here to bury those years as well they could, and mourn those lost.
They waited a moment in solemn silence, then Ax stepped forward. In his hand he held a purple rose, and he cast it into the sea. For Elfangor, my brother, and a true hero. They all stood quiet, reflective. They knew now the true story of Elfangor, his experience on the Taxxon home world, and the twisted universe created by him, Loren, and Esplin 9466, and of his years on Earth. They had found his Hirac Delest, and had listened in silence as this great hero confessed his greatest mistakes. It had made him even more of a hero in their eyes.
Now Cassie stepped forward, her own rose white. "For all the innocents killed, either by Yeerks, or us." The guilt over this would never lift from their heavy hearts.
Marco came next, a yellow rose clenched in his hand. "For the loss of laughter, and joy, and peace." Into the ocean went the rose.
Now it was Jake's turn. He tossed the red rose gently into the waves. "For Tom." Those two words carried with them the burden he had carried for 3 years, the mistakes he had made, and the guilt he would never shake, for not being able to save Tom, somehow.
Tobias came last. His rose was a delicate pink, and he stood at the ocean's edge for a moment, water lapping at his feet, before sending the rose into the water to join the others. "For Rachel. I love you." Tears sparkled in his eyes, as well as in the other Animorphs'.
The roses floated out into the distant ocean, bobbing in the waves, little spots of color on the moonlight sea. And they stood beside the ocean, the Animorphs.
