AN/ Umm, this is based on the poem 'Tyger Tyger' by William Blake, a favourite of Dr Lecter's. I wrote this just after Hannibal the novel came out, so it follows the ending of the book. I don't often write poetry, when I do it's usually under my other author name, Lady Palpatine. So there you go - she is me, and I've got several more of these little Hannibal poems hidden away somewhere. I might just dig them out and post some of them.

Disclaimer: They're not mentioned, but Hannibal etc belong to Mr Harris. And I apologise to William Blake for butchering his poem. Sorry!

SEIZE THE FIRE

In what distant deeps or skies
Burn the fire of your eyes?
On what wings dare she aspire?
And only she dares seize the fire.

And what face, and what art
Could unfreeze the sinews of your heart?
And when your heart began to weep
What calm hand dare feel it's beat?

With the key, she unlocks the chains
In the furnace of your brain.
What the love, what brave grasp,
Dare it's deadly terrors clasp?

And while the stars throw down their spears
And water the heavens with their tears,
Does she smile, her love to see?
And sleep in your embrace for eternity?

AN/ And there you have it. Actually, I rediscovered this in the back of my GCSE English anthology the other day. It must have been one of those really dull lessons. The examiner who checked my text for cheating has written 'very nice, but has nothing to do with exam' in red pen at the bottom. Still got an A though :)

Ta ta,
Screaming Ferret (aka Lady Palpatine).
