Heart
By: Scorpiova
The flames flickered in Celes's eyes as she watched them dance in the night. Sleep would not come easy for her tonight. Her lover, Locke, sleeped soundly as she stood guard over their camp.
A cold hearted military general, turned heroine and treasure hunter. She would follow him anywhere. She had no where else to go. He was her northern star, leading her to salvation, to her promised land. Her heart was one with his, they were soul mates trapped in a troubled time. In a land of darkness, their love was brighter than a shining star. A star to wish upon. Eternity was her eternal wish.
They were best friends as well as lovers, he was her everything. How could he love her, she often wondered, the atrocities that she had committed during the war were a scar upon her soul. How many innocents died at her command? How could he love something so destructive. Yet he stood by her, protecting her, fighting by her side. How could she possibly repay his kindness. His support, even in her darkest hour. Her love was all she had to give. A love that she never knew she was capable of sharing until she saw his kind eyes, his hand held out to help her and lead her to safety. He was her salvation, her salvation from evil when she was resigned to death. General. Traitor. Ice-queen. Murderer. Human? Genetically engineered since birth, raised in a laboratory. Was she even human? How could he see through to her, when she could not even see herself. How could he see past the darkness to find her light.
Locke slept in peace, a good heart at rest, one that he held out to her. His vulnerability was her own. When one shares their heart it could be their greatest weakness, as a general that was what she thought. Now she has come to realize that it could be your greatest strength. Their love was her strength.
Why was she afraid, when there was nothing to fear, nothing but herself that is.
Why wasn't he afraid? He should be...
