Light corresponds with darkness
And darkness answers to light
But hope is just a thought
And never enters a heart of happiness

"Ken-chan, I-I shouldn't be here, you know." Hikari stood nervously in front of Ken on a dimly lighted street a couple blocks from her house. Ken sighed and looked at his feet. "Yeah, I know. Neither should I but I had to tell you something." Hikari chuckled softly. "I do have my own phone line," she joked. "Well, I had to say it in person." Hikari suddenly looked very serious. "Is something wrong?" She asked. Ken looked startled. "No! Not at all. It's just that..." He trailed off.

Hope is an emotion
Coming and going
But light and darkness
Are forever linked

"You probably know what I'm going to say, I guess." Ken shifted his feet nervously. "No, I don't." Hikari held his hand and he suddenly felt better. "Well, I...I really, um," Ken felt his face flush bright but he wasn't going to back down now. "Come on, Ken, you can tell me everything. I trust you, and I hope you trust me, as well." She smiled at him. That smile, it always brightened up the darkest days. That was partially why he liked her so.

Hidden Emotions
Light hides love with happiness
Darkness just turns away
Special feelings aren't hidden for long
And hope is hidden in the shadows

Ken looked around briefly at the scenery around him. Although it was about 9:30 at night, there was a bit of pinkish-purple clouds way off at the end of the horizon. The whole affair seemed very romantic and movie-like to Ken, but that wasn't how he felt. He knew how Hikari felt about Takeru, and he was afraid to take this chance. How would she react? They were both so different. Way different. He didn't even know why he was taking this chance. Ken sighed again and turned back to Hikari. "Okay, Hikari, I-I really like you." "Oh, Ken. That's really, well, flattering for one thing. And, I guess I really liked you, too. I mean, I still do." Hikari smiled warmly and did something that suprised the both of them. She gently put her arms around his neck and pulled him close. Their lips touched, and nothing more needed to be said. A few moments later, Hikari opened her eyes to see Takeru, on the other side of the street, staring at them. The streetlight's glare only made his tears shine even more. Hikari gasped and pulled away from Ken. "Takeru!" Hikari started towards him, but he only shook his head and ran home.

All from different worlds
Never outspoken
Full of hard feelings
Burdened with awful pasts
Love triangles hurt
But only two come out on top
And hope is just an emotion

Hikari stared for a moment, then she let out her breath she was holding in. Her knees buckled, and she slid to the ground. Ken suddenly felt terribly guilty and he sat down beside her. "I'm so sorry, Hikari. This was all my fault. I didn't know that...anyone would be here." He sighed and his voice became slightly cracked. "I just hope you still like me, is all." He stood up and ran home. Hikari watched him in despair, then stood up. Her hand reached into her pocket and retrieved a slightly battered letter. A love note to Ken. Hikari sighed and headed home. "Ai shiteru, Ken.."
