Disclaimer: I don't own Star Wars.
"Master!" Anakin called as he marched across the hanger before stopping in front of Obi-Wan. "Are you about to fly out onto your next mission?"
"I will as soon as I can get a droid to accompany me in my starfighter." Obi-Wan turned away from his ETA-2 to face his young apprentice. "I don't suppose you could let me borrow R2, could you?"
"That won't be necessary!" Anakin grinned. "I have a surprise for you, Master!"
"A surprise?" Obi-Wan shot a baffled frown towards his apprentice. "What are you talking about, Anakin?!"
"This!" Anakin moved aside, raising his robotic hand to gesture to something which was right behind him. "Ta-daaaa!"
Obi-Wan peered past Anakin to find out what he wanted to show him - and blinked in astonishment upon finding out.
Standing before the Jedi Master was a astromech droid. It was identical to R2-D2, except it was red instead of blue. It looked up at Obi-Wan with its large eye sensor, letting out several bleeps of happiness.
"Look, Master!" Anakin exclaimed. "It's R4!"
"R4?!" Obi-Wan repeated.
"Uh huh! The one and only R4-P17!"
Anakin beamed as he took in his Master's reaction to seeing his old droid again. The last time the red astromech had been with him had been on their mission to rescue Chancellor Palatine from being held captive by General Grievous. Along the way, some buzz droids had jumped onto Obi-Wan's starfighter, where they had ripped off R4's dome. She had been believed to had been destroyed and lost for good - which was why during a recent visit he and R2 had made to the wreckage of the Invisible Hand, Anakin had managed to salvage her remains and repair her - complete with an identical dome.
Anakin's eyes twinkled as he observed Obi-Wan looking upon his astromech for the first time in ages. He was certain he could tell exactly how his Trainer was feeling to be back with his old friend. It was exactly how he would feel if he were to be separated and reunited with R2.
"Well, Master," Anakin said, "what do you to say about having your droid back?"
Obi-Wan slowly averted his gaze from R4. He directed it straight towards his young apprentice who had taken the time to fix up this little red robot he had lost and present her back to her.
There was only one thing Obi-Wan could think of to say. He turned slowly back towards R4. He listened to how she was bleeping in her delight upon seeing him, before letting out the remark he had to make.
"Don't seem to remember ever owning a droid."
R4 stopped bleeding instantly. She was staggered that the Jedi Master she had served didn't remember her. Her eye sensor filled with disbelief. The very person she had been on many a space voyage with, assisting him in his missions before being ripped apart right before his eyes - had no memory of her.
It was too much for R4. Being presented all good as new to Obi-Wan, only to be told he didn't remember her, was causing her CPU to overload. There was a loud bang as the tip of her dome flew off, followed by a shower of sparks. The offhanded comments made by her old owner had caused the little red robot to literally blow her top.
"Oh, Master!"
Anakin pressed his robotic hand to his face. He groaned as he gave a shake of his head. As much as his looked up to Obi-Wan, he did not share his mentor's utter indifference towards droids.
Never would I make such offensive, disdainful comments towards R2, Anakin thought. Woe betide anyone - including you, Master - who gives any kind of disrespect towards my little blue droid.
The end.
