Title: The Family Business
Fandom: Supernatural
Rating: T
Summary: 'Saving people, hunting things, the family business,' that was her family's motto, since their mother was murdered 22-years-ago and their father had set off to find the demon that killed her but when John Winchester doesn't come back from a hunt. Dean and his little sister, Tori set out to Stanford to bring their brother Sam back into the fold to find him, uncovering their own paths along the way.
On the way to Stanford
Victoria Winchester, otherwise known to her family as Tori, sat on the trunk of her brother's car, her legs dangling just by the licence plate.
They were outside a run down petrol station on the way to Stanford, her eyes focusing on the pump, watching as the numbers kept on going up her brother, Dean had gone to the store to grab refreshments for the road.
"Get your arse off my trunk," complained Dean, as he walked back to the car.
Tori jumped off, "you told me to keep an eye on the pump," she retorted, folding her arms, as she watched him put the plastic bag in the passenger seat.
"Yeah," snorted Dean, "keep an eye on the pump, not sit on my damn trunk," he watched as the 22-year-old shook her head, rolling her eyes.
"Whatever," she shrugged, "I didn't realise there was a difference."
Dean folded his arms, "and why are you so grumpy?" he asked. "It's not your…"
"No," she scoffed, "I just don't get why we are travelling to Stanford."
"I told you to get Sammy," he answered, taking the pump out of the car's fuel line.
Tori raised her eyebrow, "do you really think Sam would be interested in finding Dad?" she asked him, "he made it quite clear he didn't want anything to do with us when he left."
"That's because he was fighting with Dad," Dean told her, "not us."
"It's a waste of time," she said, walking over to the passenger side of the impala, "and petrol, when we could be going to California right now to find Dad."
Dean glared at her, "just get in the car, Tor," he opened the driver's door and got into the car, seeing her just standing there, glaring at him. "Do you want me to leave you behind?"
"You're such a jerk," she said, getting into the passenger seat like her life depended on it. That and she wouldn't put it past him to do it to her - he had already done it once before during an argument and she had to get a lift from another group of Hunter's who she had met at the garage.

Five years ago
'If you walk out of that door,' John Winchester yelled at the top of his voice. Tori was sitting in the corner of the motel room they were staying in covering her ears with her fingers. 'You are not coming back!'
Dean looked to his father in surprise, 'Dad, you don't mean that,' he said. 'Your just drunk and a little bit pissed off is all.'
'No,' John shook his head, 'if he wants to go college then that's fine, but he's not a part of this family!'
Sam felt his hand clench into a fist, 'Fine! Like I wanted to be a part of this family anyway,' he reached for his bag, 'I'm going!' The door slammed shut. Tori looked up seeing her father stumble back slightly, something telling her that even though it was a threat he had no idea that Sam would willingly walk out.
'Sam!' Dean called after his brother.
John turned to his daughter, he looked about he was about to say something but he stopped himself, grabbing his keys, he stormed out and left her alone in the motel room. It felt like hours when it had just been seconds when Dean walked back in.
'Where's Dad?' asked Dean, watching as Tori tried to speak but the words weren't willing to come out, she shook her head, tears filling her eyes. 'I'm sorry,' he whispered, walking over to his baby sister, wrapping her into a tight hug.

Tori slowly opened her eyes, as she rested her head against the cold window of the car, she looked across to her brother who had his eyes focused on the road looking down to her knees, she could see his leather jacket was over her body in an attempt to keep her warm.
"Where are we?" Tori asked, softly watching as Dean yawned a little bit before answering.
"We just passed the California border," he answered.
Tori nodded, "do you want me to drive for a little bit?"
"Maybe, once we picked up Sammy," he told her, glancing across for a brief second, watching as she stared out of the window, looking up to the trees. "I'm sure he will be happy to see us."
"Do you think?" She retorted, watching as her brother just paused for a moment, gripping the wheel of the car tightly. "I only ever got one postcard from him," she admitted, "it was more of a gesture, really, reaching out to see if I would meet him and his girlfriend."
Dean frowned, "Sammy has a girlfriend? Why didn't you tell me?"
"You didn't seem interested at the time," she pointed out, "and I didn't want to go."
"Is this girlfriend hot?" Dean asked her, trying to lighten up the mood.
Tori shrugged, "beats me," she replied, "he didn't include a picture, so how do I know that she's even real? She could be made up to impress us."
"Could be," Dean agreed, "but now you've got me interested."
"Ew, gross," Tori complained, laughing as her brother glared at her in response. Her eyes settling on the Stanford University sign. It was now or never she guessed?
